  • I am not an artist, so my sketchbooks have very few 'perfect' pieces inside, which is great - they're a place for me to experiment and learn, and I'm told you like them too as they're inspiring and 'realistic'.
Today I pretty much finished my smaller sketchbook and am sharing the work inside it with you. There are swatches of new materials, pages of experiments and learning, good drawings, bad drawings and several 'what was I thinking' drawings too!
Hopefully you will see how beneficial it is to keep a sketchbook for play and discovery, and not be too concerned about 'perfect pieces' inside!
    Much love,
    Eve

You are absolutely an artist. You have an artists eye for colour and composition. You do not need to be producing works of art for a wall to be an artist. I have so enjoyed joining you on your journey to improve your skills as an artist. Thank you again for taking the time to film, edit and post. You are a busy lady with many commitments. I LOVE your art, and you encourage me to try, for which I am very grateful. Love having a peek in your sketchbook! I am a nosy bugger at heart!! 😂❤❤

I teach kindergarteners and I think style is there from the very beginning. Skill improves but liking a work is often a matter of mood and muse. I make art often but I find much of my work less than thrilling. Like most people say, you just have to do it to see what turns up.

This is so curious as last night I was talking to D (the fiancé) about this same thing. That what I 'like' to make is not the same art as what I like to 'look at'... and it's the same as the fashion design I do too. I recall back in fashion school when we were told to look at the work of other designers, and I felt so strongly about *not* doing so... as I didn't want to end up replicating the work I 'liked' the style of, but would never actually want to make myself.. its a fascinating thing.

"I'm not an artist" proceeds to show a sketchbook full of art 😅🎉 something there got lost in translation
Loving the blue background leafy spread (around 7:25), the double made up stillife and the last three with the monstera plant 🤩 your lines at the end are more connected, it's a lot more confident and the colours are better blended imo 🫶🏽

You're making art, love, of course you're an artist. No matter if your sketchbooks look neat or not! Have you ever seen famous artist's sketchbooks? By Picasso, for example, or William Turner? They don't look neat - they look used and loved and are full of explorations, just like yours!

Ah, thank you Sonja! I do use my 'art' sketchbooks much like I use my 'fashion' sketchbooks, full of experiments and learning... and I guess what you say makes total sense, as I'm using them in a very similar way... and I would never say I'm not a designer! 😘

Another little song at the end 😉. Isn’t it funny how we view our own art versus how others view it? I enjoyed seeing everything in your sketchbook and want to gently mention that an artist makes art. You make art. Therefore, you are an artist. ❤

Hey Eve. Never apologise for longer videos! Love hearing your thought process. You do crack me up! Our sketchbooks should be that safe place where we can think whatever we like about our own work.
I do love working with poscas, and often use my polychromos and pitt brush pens over them.
Thanks for taking the time to show us your Sketchbook and to sing to us at the end of your vid 😂 x Nell.

Ah, thank you Nell! I'll have to experiment more with the posca base layer, see if I can make them 'work' for me! 😎 And thank you for watching and chatting with me here in the comments! 😘 Xxx

@@eviedivadoodles thank you. My pleasure! I usually blob out the posca, directly on the paper 🙄, or in a lid, on a palette, on transfer paper, whatever you have, then use a wet brush and paint it it. If you're quick enough, it just lays down more smoothly, unless I guess you're using the larger tips, but even then, after I've laid the colour down, I often find myself smoothing it with a dry, damp or wettish brush.
Have a great weekend x Nell.

❤ I concur I love long videos and taking your time to talk is through your sketchbook and what different things mean. I really like it. Also famous last words I think for you. I’m not an artist. I call Bull on that you absolutely are. your sketchbook is what a normal artist sketchbook looks like I hate the ones on social media that look like a whole sketchbook is just absolutely picture. Perfect finished artworks on every page that has been never will be and is not currently what an actual artist sketchbook looks like not one that they’re working in. Absolutely love your style and all the different things you’re trying to. I’m a bit of a hopper around as well.

Thank you Jess for such a lovely and supportive comment. ❤️ I think I just need to have a 'mindset' shift on what an 'artist' actually is - O spent too many years surrounded by incredible artists at the studios I was based at in London, which has clearly had an impact! 😘 What's you favorite 'hop to' at the moment?? I'm definitely leaning more into colored pencils at the moment! 🤪

@@eviedivadoodles I remember hearing Sandy has to once a we can all be artists in our own right when you hear the world professional artist that doesn’t mean there any better than you. It just means that they’re earning living or profit by selling their work. While others may do just as great work, they choose to just have it for themselves. This really helped me be able to say I was an artist, although I’ve doubled in it it very heavily for about 14 years and then schooling I have my own art room. I go to an art class and I do art a lot and I do some with kids, I would never let anyone call me an artist and always refuse to admit I was one until I saw this

Second, the Jacksons website was relaunched so they closed their original program and I need to go back in and change / update all the links. I've not had time to do that yet, but I have it noted down and will try to get that done on the weekend! ❤️

Is the paper whiter in this sketchbook than in other sketchbooks från Art Creation?

    • @eviedivadoodles
      @eviedivadoodles  4 місяці тому

Hi Charlotte! Yes this is the 'white' paper version, as opposed to the more ivory / cream color of their standard sketchbooks. It's great for anything non 'watery' as the paper does buckle a lot with watercolours / watery gouache, but I love them for the price and not feeling precious with them!
