Your video made me feel better; I got started this year; and somebody on my 2M local repeater just chewed me out on the air for not calling 'CQ'; I had simply stated my call-sign and asked for a radio check (I just hooked up an external antenna). I understand now that I should have stated my call sign and 'listening'; but other people I hear on it are so informal. It really made me want to quit the club for the hostile response instead of kind quidance.

How's it goin' K5ATA? I received my license in 2010 and have not been on but a hand-full of times. I appreciate the videos you do and you do a fine job with them. I am especially new to 2 meter and 70cm. I was 18E secondary MOS and I'm still learning Amateur Radio. I have subscribed because you make everything easy to understand. Thanks so much!

Thanks, and thanks for watching. That is part of why I started this series, there is a ton of little info that people tend to glaze over. Thanks for watching!

Good video, me and a couple of other hams were debating whether using hot spots and “”talking all over the world “” let’s face it, you’re not talking all over the world you’re mearly talking to a hot spot and on the internet, I haven’t had my license all that long and a few other swear your talking around the world, this is the fastest way to lose our bands I mean you don’t even have to have a radio, I done mine through my phone, WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO using the radio with an antenna system doing it for real, granted you might not get a contact but hey if you keep trying u will get one , it gives you a rush that yes I done it, no rush using the internet, These opinions are MY OWN and u do what ever you choose, I’m sticking to the hard way and feel accomplished…..

What is a good middle of the line mobile device? I know I’ll need an antenna for the top of the truck.

I liked this video, this helped me better understand how to get active with my new license! Thank you for taking the time to make this video and explain it in a way that is friendly and encouraging to anyone who is looking to make Thier first contact! Ive really been putting myself out there since watching this video and now knowing that it may take a little time to get any response and to not just flip to the next frequency after a moment of not hearing anything, just keep trying as a rule of thumb and eventually you'll get someone or.. at least some...thing???
