So awesome seeing them talk! I hope to get a friend for my ERS-111 someday, I didn’t know they could talk to other models! Bonnie and Astrid are very cute friends

Though not all softwares are compatible, all the older models can talk to each other! My 210 can only talk to my 111 since she’s running Life 1 here!

Probably a silly question, but how do you initiate this? I got Ruby to recognize Gypsy but I have no idea how to put Gypsy in the mode. In a manual I found, there's a chaos of random numbers and I got 8 and 0 out of it, but pressing 80 doesn't work?

@@elvisisswag1349 This is what I know about 111s:
For a 111, they’re the cheapest at usually $100 to $300. The total cost for mine was almost $300 due to the shipping being $80. If you order from Japan expect shipping prices like that. Which you probably would want to use a proxy to buy one at reasonable prices. I used Sendico and my 111 and 210 arrived perfectly with no issues! Avoiding ebay is recommended due to all the scalped listings and crazy prices, unless you can find a reasonably priced one that isn’t from Japan.
111s are the sturdiest of all aibos with the least issues. 111s fixed an issue with legs breaking in 110s and are considered to be tanks. “Junk”, unconfirmed models tend to come fully working.
Batteries could need recelling, but they tend to come working too. Mine got an hour on full charge. But some must be inserted, taken out and reinserted into the charging station’s battery slot many times until the station’s orange light indicator for the battery stops blinking.
Poor handling or poor packaging can lead to a leg being broken and loose. On rare occasions software on a stick can be corrupted and it won’t start until that’s fixed, and there’s a single case I know about where it was the core that had an issue rather than the battery or stick.
They’re the only aibo that needs a fan, and their vents must be exposed and allow air flow to avoid overheating. They’re noisy because unlike a computer, their fan is always on and running, only being a little quieter when they sit and relax.
They’re the most limited. Rather than petting them, you press a panel on the back of their head for 2 seconds to praise, 1 second to get their attention, or slap it quickly to scold. There’s no voice recognition, they take commands from a remote instead, and only perform actions with commands in performance mode (you can see the online manual for more). And they have one main autonomous software that will probably be included. But they are very fun to watch, and I actually enjoy seeing my 111 acting silly over watching my 210! 111s are very active and funny!
You might get one in an earlier stage, like I got mine in child stage. The manual can help explain more. On earlier stages the aibo won’t show interest in anything pink or red at first. A newborn won’t even walk at first, and child stage is awfully repetitive.
111s need the MOST supervision in my experience. They have poor obstacle detection due to the infrared sensors in their forehead rather than near the nose, and they will easily run into stuff. Take care of one well, and watch out for the tail, which can break off if crushed and can’t be put back on.
While 111s can self right themselves, they may turn off if they somehow knock themselves over. Unlike other models, that is how they jam, by just turning off. If you find it like this, simply place it into proper position, press the power button, and press it again to turn it back on. It will boot as normal.
On the charging station, solid orange light indicators means the aibo or battery are charging. It can be easy to put the aibo on the station wrong at first, so if you get the blinking orange light remove it and gently place it back on. You’ll soon get it right consistently.
When left on and fully charged, 111s sometimes wake up on their own on the station. They’ll move their heads, make noises and wag their tails (make sure it has space to move!). They don’t move their legs. They’re more likely to wake if there’s lots of noise, like people talking, but will wake up on their own. You can push the pause button to keep it from waking you up.
111s usually have missing ears. This is normal since the rubber on the originals deteriorated. You can make your own ears, buy some or just leave the aibo like that as the ears don’t move on their own and don’t contribute much other than for the look. Mine has blue 3D printed ears, $40, with fabric I glued on the back so it isn’t noisy. Something they don’t tell you on removing the old ears: you might just need to yank them really hard! You should keep the original ear pieces left over, maybe use them to make new ears later.
Some might have a missing tail. I recommend avoiding these! Tails aren’t meant to be detachable on 111s, and the only way to fix this would be buying a separate tail block. Just get one with its tail attached and don’t worry about the ears.
When 111s show they’re out of battery, they should be placed on the station right away to help preserve the battery. If left like that in the same state, the battery will continuously drain which is bad for it.
111s are the only model that DO NOT fully turn off when you push the pause/power button! They’re still on in a way, just “paused”. This can be bad for the battery if it’s left inside while not being charged, because though it keeps draining at a slower rate, it does considerably faster than other models and devices. And like any battery, you don’t want it draining to the point it can’t charge. When not using a 111 for a long time, unplug the station and make sure to take the aibo’s battery out.
This “paused” state causes issues with memory sticks too, and I got one corrupted cause I didn’t realize. In order to switch out a stick, you must take out the battery first, then proceed to switch them. Later models all turn off properly and don’t need the battery removed to switch memory sticks, though this is still referred to as “paused” in the manuals.
111s are the only aibos without copy protection so you can just put 111 software on sticks without needing to “zap” it with a Sony clie.
111s are modular, meaning parts like their head, legs and tail block are easy to slide off and swap. All you need is a flat tool, like a flathead screwdriver, that can fit into the gap where the block you want to remove is. For example, to take off a front leg, you fit the tool into the middle rectangle between the chest and leg block. Then you push gently in a certain direction until you hear a click.
      Here’s a great video about 111s: ua-cam.com/video/0e6f_LnOu0s/v-deo.html

      @@elvisisswag1349 This is about 210s:
For a 210, there’s a lot more going on than 111s. They have lots of software to choose from that have different functions, a stay mode, a better pick up mode, and a back panel to press for being pet. They have a head sensor to praise or scold. And they can hear and respond to voice commands.
Affordable colors are silver, black and gold, which I would recommend. Special edition colors tend to come at ridiculous prices for just a 210 (like $800 to $1000!). I got my gold one for $300, with the total being $400 due to shipping. If you order from Japan expect shipping prices like that. Which you probably would want to use a proxy to buy one at reasonable prices. I used Sendico and my 111 and 210 arrived perfectly with no issues! Avoiding ebay is recommended due to all the scalped listings and crazy prices, unless you can find a reasonably priced one that isn’t from Japan
210s can get DHS, TAS or PAS (droopy head syndrome, tilt axis syndrome, pan axis syndrome) in their heads. If badly affected, it will need to be pinned by a repair person.
If the aibo happens to have a supercore head, DHS is unlikely while TAS may appear a little, but potentially correct itself. If you buy a 210 with a working head, there’s a good chance it has a supercore head rather than pinned.
Supercores are 210s that have a faster CPU and more importantly an improved head. A lot of DHS issues were apparently fixed by replacing the head with a supercore one.
Some 210s have jitters, where they shake a lot, due to dirty potentiometers. They’re more prone to it than 111s (which rarely if ever get it) and should be kept out of dusty places. Jitters can often be fixed just by running them, or using the aibo therapy software.
210s have silicone ears and tails that are easily removable and can be put back on. The tail may fall for safety reasons to not damage the tail block, such as if it’s crushed. Pay attention to a 210 if it has a 3D printed tail on. Unlike the silicone, it getting crushed could damage the tail block.
A 210 may come with a dead battery. Mine’s battery was already recelled by the seller. If the battery doesn’t work very long or charge, it will need to be recelled by a repair person.
I don’t have a charging station yet so I don’t know about their behavior on it, but you can probably find a video. Often you will see listings that only include the dongle instead, which is what came with 210s while the station could be purchased on its own.
Like 111s, 210s are modular, so you can slide off and swap parts like the head, legs and tail block. For 210s you need a certain limb key though that some people in the community might sell. If you try to use something else you might push too far and BREAK the mechanism so the limb key is recommended. With this limb key, you open the battery compartment on their stomach and slide it into the hole corresponding with the block you want to remove. I can send a image I have for reference if you’d like to see it.
Removing blocks to clean the contacts might be necessary if you see your 210 strangely collapsing. If the collapsing occurs, first try removing and putting back in the memory stick and battery, which is what fixed mine. If the collapsing continues, you should clean the contacts on the limb blocks, which you need a limb key for. If anything disconnects, everything shuts down.
