  • We cover a ton of tech here at Max Tech, but this is the kind of stuff that can not only make your life more enjoyable but can absolutely change it.
    #cochlearpartner
    Today we talked about the Cochlear™ Kanso® 2 Sound Processor, the smallest1 off-the-ear cochlear implant sound processor with direct smartphone* connectivity. This allows cochlear implant recipients to stream music, calls, and other entertainment from their phone directly to their hearing device. Not only do cochlear implants help people hear and connect to their everyday life again, but Cochlear keeps innovating and creating updated technology.
    The Kanso 2 Sound Processor's dual microphones and Smartsound® iQ with SCAN^ technology allows cochlear implant recipients to focus on the sounds they want to hear, like conversations and music. The Nucleus Smart App** also allows recipients to adjust the settings of their Kanso 2 Sound Processor.
    I got a chance to virtually meet Justin, a Cochlear employee and cochlear implant recipient, to ask him some questions and see what kind of an impact the Kanso 2 Sound Processor has made so far on his life.

      Eugene Timothy: I know, I've never really had good hearing due to a ear operation many years ago, now after further problems I have no hearing in my right ear and I would estimate about 25% in the left ear, you really don't know what you have until it's gone.

    Thanks so much this! My younger brother is hearing impaired and throughout his life he has decided to keep his hearing aids instead of going for a cochlear implant. But seeing the new technology that is available in this new version and that it is covered by medicaid made me share this with him. Thanks for everything you're doing!

    Wow. I actually use the Nucleus 7 processor from Cochlear Americas (and yes that’s how they spell it) because I have profound bilateral hearing loss. (I was born without hearing. I had 5% hearing when I was born which means that I can’t hear the jet engines even if I was right next to it.) I can actually hear now and actually speak and hear clearly because of them.

    I underwent ci surgery 11/22, recovery is a bit longer , & there’s also vertigo and equilibrium issues that can be 2+ months after surgery . Most people experience it. My kanso2 is on and I am able to hear like a robotic. I can’t listen to music yet or talk through it yet. I lost my hearing due to croup/covid omicron. I will need a hearing aid on my other ear- that one is $1800 that works w/ kanso2. My ins won’t cover it.
    Bit overall even though I still am having issues with vertigo and balance- it’s worth it to me to be able to even hear a noise. They said because I’m so no new to it. It’s gonna take me probably close to a year to be able to actually hear a lot of things but I am OK with that. I do train it. I did watch the episode on TV with the cochlear/Bluetooth along with the app. My right ear plug I can understand it in robotics but when I try to listen to music I can’t hear anything at this point so I would say definitely talk to your ENT and see which option is best.

    whoa - i didn’t expect this device be a device that required surgery! it makes me wonder how it is designed to keep up with technology - I assume the “dock” will remain standard and you just upgrade the processor when the time comes?

    • @mariaaroeira9575
      @mariaaroeira9575 3 роки тому +2

      A chip is placed behind the ear and an electrode wire inside the cochlea in ear surgery. The technology upgrade takes place with the replacement of the external device that communicates with the internal chip by radio waves. The internal chip is not exchanged, but the external device. I am a cochlear implant user. With each device change, it improves programming, filters and connectivity with the computer or cell phone. I have friends with 20 years of using the cochlear implant and they can use all the current technologies, because the cochlear implant brands work for all users to have technology compatibility with the internal chip.

This isn't some trendy off-the-shelf tech, recipients literally have to go through extensive rehabilitation to re-train their brains how to hear.
