Very helpful video. If the camera has its battery replaced and/or is turned off, the camera will lose time code and be out of synch even if the slate looks ok. Re-jam (re-synch) the camera after this happens. Also, whoever is operating the slate might turn it off and not tell you, thinking they are saving the batteries. But it also makes the time code go out of sync, so watch for the code displayed which Charlie mentions starting at 4:24. If your time code cable has a lemo connector, make sure that whoever is dealing with the cable removes that cable by pulling on the release collar and not any other part of the cable, which could break something. Camera people shouldn't be pulling cables from the soundman's audio recorder, just as the sound guy wouldn't remove any cables from the camera, without a previous understanding of which cable they are dealing with, why and how. If you rent/buy a slate, try to get a cable that is long enough so you have some slack in the cables when synching (jamming)., so they don't get pulled which could damage it or the connections on the slate, camera or recorder. Many cameras won't hold time code accurately for a long period, so re-jam after lunch or leave the slate connected to the camera. But camera operators like to move around untethered, so this isn't a viable option. Lock-it boxes are available to keep the cameras in synch more accurately that the cameras can do it by themselves. Some are quite small and can be velcroed to the camera or some bracket without getting in the way.
Already watched 5 or 6 videos explaining this in many ways... This one was the best. The other videos wanted to explain how to mark. I wanted to know about the slate and how IT works. Great video. Awesome clapperboard.
I want to ask, I have a digital slate denecke ts-3, what I want to ask is, is there a setting so that when the valve in the display the display is the last time, because my valve when in ctak it is not the last timecode but user bith , please tell me how to arrange it
My TS-3 when jamming from my Sound Devices 664 mixer/recorder jams out of sync by 1 frame, it will both lead and lag by a frame. Is there a fix to this? When I sync to my R3D Scarlet MX my 664 syncs perfectly. Is this a known issue? How can I fix this? Please note I am based in Australia and thus everything is recorded in 25fps.
+Connor Landrum There is a display brightness switch on the back of the slate. One of the positions turns on the backlight. You can't see it, outside, during the day. You might be able to hear the noise if makes, however.
I do not understood. When you slap it together, he says you lose 4 fps, doesn't that mess up sync with the camera? The audio and the visual will be 4 fps off when you go back to sync it together in post? I thought there was no point in clapping it anymore?
It freezes the timecode for a few frames so it can be easily distinguished in the cutting process later. of course the timecode itself keeps running in the background and there will be no synch problems.
Timecode is set to free run, wich means it runs without stopping (timecode can be set also to 'rec run', that is what you are referring to, it will only run when recording. Free run is used for sync between different devices)

I like how calmly he suggests you must remove the internal batteries or they will explode.
yup,... for $1600
I feel like that was kind of glossed over and should have had more attention brought to it 🤔
Just pay an electrical engineer for five minutes to redesign the circuit to avoid this. WTF

How to be super extra on a no budget set lol
I don’t see 23.97 on the dial. Just set it to 23?

Roll is used for film in video should be file Or hard disc?
Can the slate run a time code without it being jammed in? Like will it be able to run if I just turn it on? or do I have to have a timecode generator?
Can the TS-3 be used to sync a camera once the TS-3 has been jammed?
Where may I get one and cost
Please, what is the last number after the date that appear when you clap?
After every single shoot You need to reload codes?
It looks like a Sound Devices 702T recorder. See B&H.

How do you turn the back screen light on for night shots?

Why do they cost $1500??
NAME,.... That swhy I got the iPad Pro and tentekle sync w/ DIGI SLATE. works like a dream on huge productions.
Cool
Nice but so expensive for any of these slate boards with timecode built in. :(
A gentle suggestion. You guys are in the film industry. Get a focus puller.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Can I get timecode form my Camera (Panasonic BGH1) to the slate using quarter inch to whatever input to my camera?
Please, what is the last number after the date that appear when you clap?
