Can’t believe a $1,500 slate has such a huge design flaw. That said, this seems like an easy job for a 3D printer to handle. Someone would just need to make the design, and then AC’s could print them for around $1 at their local library. If I had one of these slates I’d volunteer to do it!
Brilliant! But as much as I love hacks, I'm not about to slide a piece of bubblegum into my $1k slate. That siad, I appreciate the video and I'm gonna try and find a piece of dense foam. The tripling up on 9V is great though, because when the first one goes dead, mark it and rotate it to the back, you got two more!
Yeah the gum was kind of a joke. But it actually works fine and can’t do much damage wrapped in paper. I’m using a rolled-up piece of two-sided Velcro these days.
Sure does! The bubble gum was a joke though. But I do load up three 9 volts and a rolled up bit of Velcro that I shove in behind them. Lasts a couple weeks!
@@robdisner surely three can't be used at once, just one 9V at a time? I just finished filming a video myself abut the Deneke TS-3, will upload it soon
It holds three in the slot. Obviously, only one is in use at at time. But keeping them all in there makes it easy to swap them around when one goes dead.
How do you turn the backlight on for the slate? The blue light?
There are two little round push buttons on the back. They toggle through the different modes.
@@robdisner I was able to find out shortly after that by turning the brightness down it auto toggles the backlight blue on

I’m using a rolled up piece of Velcro now to hold the 9 volts in. Has worked fine for years.
And someone already made a product called the Slate Bone which held a single 9 volt in place.

Oh nifty! Was the first think I thought when I saw the battery sled was if it worked with 9V instead

Great... until you are filming in the desert. You'll have a sticky surprise waiting for you next time you want to change batteries
The gum was kind of a joke. Although it actually worked well. I used a rolled-up piece of double-sided Velcro now.
Nice video i will try this. I like 9v battery much better, it works well with microframecorp slate
Thanks! I’m not using the gum any more. A rolled up strip of two sided Velcro does the trick as well.
You should never mix lithium ion and alkaline batteries…
Nothing is mixed as only one battery is used at a time.
Cool hack but perhaps we can Hack your Hack with a harmless piece of foam
