  • TODAY, HILTI held a new product event where they unveiled their most ambitious product to date. A brand new semi-autonomous robotic platform that’s literally picking up Hilti tools and getting the job done.
    THIS, is the all-new Hilti JAIBOT, a semi-autonomous tank tread rolling robot with an arm strong enough to hold a 22lb tool and reach way over your head. In this first iteration, it’s holding a HILTI TE 6-A22 and precisely drilling holes overhead in concrete, marking them with spray paint is relevant patterns, and meticulously documenting the depth, width, time and location of every hole it drills.

      No, there still needs to be an operator with the Jaibot at all times. The main point is to keep workers safe by not having to drill overhead, exposing them to dust. There are other advantages as well in terms of productivity and aligning a the MEP trades anchor locations, just to name a few.

      @@blzt3206 honestly if it is reliable if I think it only makes sense. If it is taking info from the BIM software then it’s probably safer to have the robot make holes then a human. I have worked in buildings before where anchor locational accuracy is considered basically top priority. Most of the time use gps and a total station and uses pour in place anchors. This machine is cool as heck! I wonder how much it weighs and how tall it is? If it couldn’t fit in a man or freight elevator it might have limited viability. I hope they choose to sell this product basically at cost to build a market.

    -Put a camera on it and teach it how to understand pencil markings. Then give it a special tool/jig to instal batboxes and it can just follow behind a Spark boy. Sparky just need to make a pencil mark and then he can walk of and do someting else.
    - Put a holesaw on the robot and it can make holes for spotlights/downlights.
    -Have it work the table saw instead of a human.
    -Laying tiles maybe???
    -Have it aid the carpenter whit a drywal skrewing. Carpenter puts in a few skrews and moves on to the next panel and the robot puts in the rest of the skrews.
    -Painting celings.

    If a person is needed to operate that robot via remote every time, just have that remote person do the actual work instead. To me, it would take longer to program a robot to do a specific job, then package and transport and setup the robot than it would to just have a person pick up an SDS and drill away...

    • @ToolShow
      @ToolShow  4 роки тому +12

      First of all, if you have only one hole to drill, you're right, get a guy. It's faster. But this is far superior when you need to drill 10,000 holes in a new build.
      Second, are you volunteering to be the guy that has to not only hold a 12lb tool over your head on scaffolding but then PUSH that 12lbs up into the ceiling hundreds of times per day? I'd much rather be the operator that is making sure the tool is doing the job correctly.
      The drill it's using, is just a previous step in this evolution. Imagine your comment when the first power drill was made.
      "If a person is needed to operate that new drill, I'd just have that person do the actual work with a spoon."
      WHY?
      This is a drill. It just happens to have the added feature of being able to hold itself up, and drill holes EXACTLY where you want them. That's better than doing permanent damage to your spine. Maybe you can retire and still be able to play football with your grandkids.
      Why not embrace progress, and be the one guy on the job site who raises his hand and says "How can I be a part of this?" and be first in line to learn how to program or operate the future?
      Just another perspective for you to consider.

      Still have enough energy for a walk with the dog a short workout, playing with the kids and even have enough power for sex after work. Thanks to that thing. • @Fee.1
      @Fee.1 4 роки тому

      Just to clarify there isn’t a person required to “operate them by remote” as in they have to control every movement. It’s more like a CNC on wheels, scales up to use power tools. But it will need operators on site to set it up and tend to it obviously.

      That sure sounds swell! But we've been begging people to join the trades for decades now. The truth is, progress is going to happen no matter what. But in this case, you can't suggest that they're JUST trying to get rid of workers. The literally don't have enough, and haven't for a LONG time.
      There are a lot of organizations that are actively trying to recruit young people into the trades. In fact, that was a principle focus of ours when we became Belts and Boxes. We're working hard to create interesting and funny tool education, information and entertainment. All of which, we hope, will help inspire young people to seek out our industry.

      The Stealing jobs argument has a problem....the premise assumes a situation where there’s jobs to “steal”.....to say nothing of how ridiculous it is to use the word “steal” to begin with.
      I mean we can do it your way....but then you’ll be equally upset when you’re complaining that China or Mexico or Canada etc “stole our jobs” because we made the cost of labor here artificially higher by trying to pretend solutions like this don’t exist.
      Or we can implement them where appropriate and boost the efficiency of the skilled laborer working beside it, allowing the laborer and their team to finish the job faster and move on to the next one.
      Nobody here will disagree with promoting the trades I’m sure, but it’s not accurate to suggest they’re mutually exclusive options.....both is the way to do it.

    As John Oliver says, ok there is a lot to unpack here. ....
    Firstly Hilti always charged way over the odds for everything, regular drill bit €4, hilti drill bit €45
    Secondly this is the start of, replacing regular labour onsite, this should not be welcomed. Yes drilling holes over head all day is not fun but it is a job for someone and a potential income for a family, replacing it with a robot is bad juju
    Thirdly, we are basically going to do to construction what we did with car manufacturing. Remove human, install robot. No offence Rob, I love your Chanel but in twenty years I’m not going to be watching if every tool video is held by a robot.
