Thanks John. Mystery to Me is my favorite Mac album, probably because of BobWelch who in my opinion doesn't get enough recognition for his contributions to the band. With this list I completely agree with In Through The Out Door. My favorite Zeppelin album. I was waiting for the band to announce the US tour to support the album when Bonhan died. So sad, anyways great as always! William, Parker CO
All very good albums john, especially Bare trees. I have probably listened to that album more then any other fleetwood mac album. Danny Kirwan might be the most underrated guitarist/singer/songwriter ever. He wrote a lot of great songs.
john i have that fleetwood box set and i love them all my favorite is future games and the song woman of a 1000 years . that is myfav mac era and terribly underated!!!!!!!!!! great video john
5. Goat head soup 4. Mind games 3. Infidels 2. Back to the egg 1. George Harrison George Harrison Other ones Marage Fleetwood Mac 33$1/3 Off the ground
Maybe because it was the first Zeppelin album I bought (aged 17), I’ve always had a soft spot for ITTOD and would still rank it as my favourite album of theirs.
Interesting selections . My picks would be : The Who : The Who By Numbers. ( although I could do without Squeeze Box ) Procol Harum : Grand Hotel Southside Johnny : Hearts of Stone Rolling Stones : Goat’s Head Soup Pink Floyd : Obscured By Clouds Iron Butterfly : Ball. ( a lost psychedelic classic )
In Through the Out Door is an interesting pick. I like some of the songs, but I haven’t listened to it in ages. I’ll give it another spin. I definitely agree about Bare Trees. It’s one of my favorite Fleetwood Mac albums, and Danny Kirwan is in top form.
Love your work John, been watching your videos for over a year or so, love hearing you take on things, started collecting vinyls in fact after watching you videos, My favourite song on street legal is where are you tonight
Great review - love the dedication to Street Legal, which imo is one of Dylan's unheralded masterpieces. Especially the last 3 tracks. Also a fan of In through the Out Door.
I bought ITTOD around Christmas after it came out. I rode home on my bicycle with it in a snowstorm and came home cold, wet and hungry to a Christmas-bedecked house with a fire burning in the fireplace and the smell of great food. I love this album not only because it is good, but also because of those associations and the atmosphere at the time it dropped into perfectly.
Hi John I have the remix of street legal on vinyl sounds fantastic, always loved that album but as you say the remix just lifts it so much compared to the original production
I, like yourself, was introduced to Led Zeppelin officially through the album. It was the first album I owned by them and had to backtrack their catalog from there. In Through The Outdoor has always been my #1 LedZep album.
'A Beard Of Stars' - Tyranosaurus Rex would be my no 1 underrated album. It was brilliant all the way through, and Steve Harley called it Marc Bolan's 'Revolver', which i agree with - every song was great. The recent Uncut Bolan special gives a number of the songs 2 or 3 stars, which is frankly ridiculous, in my opinion. Better than the higher profile 'Electric Warrior' and 'The Slider', for me. The Rolling Stones 'Goats Head Soup' has always been underrated. The Beatles 'Help', although it is hard to justify any Beatles release as at least not being given high regard. This one, though, is one of The Beatles albums that deserves to rank higher. It is a great feel good album, which always retains a wonderful freshness, however often i hear it. It may not have been one of the most groundbreaking of the Beatles albums, but its naivety adds to its charm.
SONG TO A SEAGULL - joni mitchell ,its just so much of a piece, a real folk-sh song cycle MAKING MOVIES - dire straits, romeo and juliet, tunnel of love, skate away, c'mon need i say more. Even have a soft spot for les boys the best scott joplin pastiche ever put to guitar and a real guitar classic riff IMO REAL GONE - Tom waits, no because, it just is. End of.
I agree about the Led Zeppelin album - I think it is fine. I don't have (nor have listned to) any of the other picks. I'll look out for them from now on. ps I have the fleetwood mac vinyl box set with Bare Trees and agree it is excellent.
Never understood why “In Through the Out Door” was given a hard time. Brilliant album. All Killer no filler for me. All four are playing beautifully. “Street Legal” a Dylan Masterpiece The 2010 Remastered CD is magnificent sound
“Street Legal” is a good choice, I remember back in 78’ that it sounded strange to have a Dylan album with horns, and initially the female backup singers took some getting used to, also, Bob’s voice was starting to change, plus the bad reviews didn’t help, but I was being thick headed, it’s one of my favorites actually, a reminder that with great artists we should keep an open mind towards their work... I’ve been guilty myself of judging things too fast-many times!
The only Fleetwood Mac album I have is Bare Trees. Bought it when it was released. May have played it 5 times in almost 50 years. That number is scary.
My brother introduced me to Zeppelin as a teenager shortly after Bonham died and In Through the Out Door was the album. It was nothing I had ever heard before and I ended up “discovering” every single album of theirs over the next two years-each one a revelation. I didn’t realize Zep aficionados panned it. I loved every track, lying on the floor in the family room, my head between two speakers. Carouselambra was one of my favorites. Thanks for picking this one, John.
Whenever I listened to "Street Legal," it would steer me in one direction, then SUDDENLY JERK me in the opposite (maybe it was intended to do that). Just couldn't get into it: "I had a new pony, her name was Lucifer (how much longer)..." No matter--I just go on back to my favorite Dylan LP, "Planet Waves," also very underrated. Thanks for the insight, John.
These 5 also seem to be underrated: 1. ERIC CLAPTON ----- Backless (1978) 2. GENTLE GIANT ----- Civilian (1980) 3. JOHN LENNON ----- Rock & Roll (1975) 4. AL STEWART ----- Russians & Americans (1984) 5. JETHRO TULL ----- Too Old To Rock & Roll... (1976)
Some interesting Fleetwood Mac related songs; Danny Kirwan Let it be, & Jeremy Spencer Travellin + Cool breeze. And there's a special 5 minute studio version of Purple Dancer on the Madison Blues album that I think is excellent with Kirwan and Spencer together. I love the Bare trees album. And also the Future games album. The single Dragonfly is also magical. Crisis what crisis is my favorite Supertramp album and my favorite cover photo too.
I like the Bob Welch period of Fleetwood Mac, he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame with the rest of the group. That Dylan album is good, especially after they cleaned up the mic bleed issue. Another underrated album of his is "New Morning" which doesn't get enough recognition. It's quirky but interesting. "Planet Waves" also gets overlooked. I read that Stevie Nicks owns the rights to that album and said she wants to release it but hasn't found the time. I don't necessarily believe her.
Street Legal was the 1st real Dylan album I bought, back in 1978. I really tried to like it, but did not. There are many good Dylan albums, this I think is not one of them. I rebought it recently, those back up singers ruin it for me.

Completely agree with Beaucoups of Blues. My favorite track is "Love Don't Last Long", I think it's beautifully tragic.

Bare Trees is fantastic. That one, Kiln House and Then Play On are some favorites of mine
Most of the Supertramp Fans haven't heard "Crisis? What Crisis?". That really is the crime of the Century. Great Video as always.

love future games my fav bare trees great also as well as kiln house
Great list of underrated albums. And thanks spotlighting Street Legal, a very overlooked and underrated album when it came out.
Street Legal LP - very underrated

Bryter layter by Nick drake so under rated, great album.
Five leaves left also great by Nick drake.
Love to see a review of the Genius Nick drake.

I've never given the Supertramp album a thought. I'll give it a listen. Nice one John.
Good Choices just need to bump Buckinghan Nicks up a notch or two
Queen,News of the World greatly underrated in my opinion...

in through the out door top stuff
Sounds like we had a similar experience. I thought Hot Dog was a good example of their versatility and sense of humor.
Interesting as always. Two very underrated albums I don’t see on many lists are both by T Rex, Electric Warrior and Tanx.
Agree both Buckingham Nicks and Bare Trees are great albums. How about Leige and Leif by Fairport Convention? That's a classic
'A Beard Of Stars' - Tyranosaurus Rex would be my no 1 underrated album. REAL GONE - Tom waits, no because, it just is. End of.
In Through the Out Door gives you a good preview of what Robert Plant's solo career will sound like.
"Bare Trees" - 'sentimental lady'
I like the pink floyd "more" soundtrack a bit and a lot of people don't even know it's a thing
Their hardest rocker " The Nile Song" is on there. I always thought "Obscured by Clouds" was very under appreciated.
Nice video, i also think that, In through the outdoor by Led Zeppelin ia a superb album.
That little Mac box set is well worth a purchase. 5 nearly forgotten albums.
Street Legal and Crisis What Crisis YES!!!
Thanks to You John I got into Dylan's Street Legal as well as other albums-Thank You for your Recomendations.
Danny Kirwan very underrated 👍
Station Man off Kiln House is classic Kirwan. Crunching /roaring guitars. The guy could play.
@@Gardosunron Another sad tale of self-destruction, but left some great tracks.

Listen to sands of time, danny kirwan wrote this one... Unbelievable track..... Think its on future games......
Also a track called "Dust" also by Danny kirwan.... On the bare trees album..... Good stuff
@@tonykemp3432 I remember I once made someone very happy by recommending the song Dust as it became a favorite for that person.
I love Street Legal brilliant album
Without a Leg to stand on is an awesome song. The version of Crystal is way better the Fleetwood Mac version,
Like all those choices.

The production and arrangements have always put me off Street Legal. I just don’t like the “sound” of the album.
listen to the remaster! from 1999 i think
