    I’m a hip hop fan. Drake is never in my top songs playlist at the end of the year. That being said, I believe he out-rapped Kendrick bar for bar in this beef. Kendrick, who is a Pulitzer Prize winning, Grammy award winning artist had to stoop to calling Drake a pedophile in a pop song to beat him. To me he took the easy way out because he couldn’t beat him with straight bars. And saying this isn’t his biggest record is being dishonest. He’s gained millions of new fans because of their dislike of Drake lol.

    The corporate attempt to save Drake is on but I don't believe it's going to work. He is like machine gun Kelly now he must join the pop world. They are trying to turn the tables and make Kendrick into the bully where he has been saying what he has been saying from the beginning. If you listen. People should have listened. Drake had more than a decade on top, and could have helped so many Toronto artists come up and do something like the Pop Out, uniting the Toronto scene. Instead he signed artist to his record label only to have their work siphoned for his album.

      @Tigercam24 3 місяці тому

      Absolutely, he's actually set back the underground 10+ years. He never supported them, only tried to pillage them for his own personal gain. And it was get down or lay down, literally, cause he was literally having people get beat up for choosing not to work with him

  • @goeienacht
    @goeienacht 3 місяці тому +14

    5:53 I literally had this happen at work! As soon as I brought up the Juneteenth show, a coworker (black man) immediately tried to cut me off saying it was corny and it’s been done before. Days later, he was like “I got something to show you about Kendrick that’ll make you mad”. Bro, no it won’t, it’ll just make you look more unlikeable and bitter. I was like “I’m happy, I’m good, real hip hop and music fans are fine too but you can be miserable over there” and he didn’t even bother arguing after that. He knew I wouldn’t be swayed by random haters he found dwelling online and gave up.
    As a black woman, it amazes me how much I see other black men consistently and maybe subconsciously shit on the wins and success of talented black men in rap. Not famous, talented. Like clockwork, I’m always praising black artists and their legendary or notable achievements and there’s always a black dude popping up trying to shid on it. For free. It’s even more bizarre when it’s to side with drake, though.
    Tired of these ashy ass opinions from people who clearly have the most surface level or old-head appreciation for rap. Lyricism, production, and stage presence is something everyone should value (ahem, Kendrick), not random hits shoved in our faces years ago that we can’t relate to.
    This wasn’t just a diss show, but an amalgamation of all of those aspects, including charisma and authenticity. It wasn’t the “first” or “only” gathering of opps turned temporary allies but it was powerful. Hackles down, volume up.
    And above all, the entirety of this beef era is significant because it’s long-awaited and much needed proof that yes, lyricism+style finally wins. Genuine wins. And the public proved it by supporting Kendrick Lamar.

    Kendrick also met 2Pac on the set of California Love remix video set when he was a kid with his dad. I think people compared Kendrick to him with 2Pac also because Kendrick’s bday is June 17th, which is the day after Pac’s bday. Also social media was comparing him to Pac because of the red shirt, red hat, blue jeans and white shoes that Pac wore at the Source Awards 94 where he was performing. Kendrick wore the same outfit similar. I still don’t think Kendrick is the new 2Pac.

    If they are great they are being compared to PAC, MJ, or Prince. It does a disservice to both artists. Each artist has created a unique lane and have contributed to the music in a distinct, and different way. All of it creates and expands Black influence on music. To compare artists is to erase their contribution and is anti-Black.

    Wayne cautioned Drake 10 years ago to stay in his lane. Not to try to rap about what he rapped about just because he was around him. “Keep it Canadian”. Drake is a colonizer. Industry Plant. He cosplayed Black people to pretend to be from our culture. Nobody who’s been through what our people have would have ever said that “trying to free the slaves” line, let alone wore blackface..I’m trippin’ that he still has Black fans after saying that.. Not saying hate him, but his fans never asked for any apology or explanation? Tupac, and Kendrick’s music comes from our experience.. for generations.. You can’t fake that.. and that MF found out the hard way, his label backing, money and hardcore fans couldn’t save him or deny it. And those industry executives didn’t see this coming. As a 51 year old woman, I think one of the main problem is the norms that guide society. I so flabbergasted when my daughter participated on a losing soccer team and was given a trophy. She didn’t need a trophy what she needed was to rub drills, etc.
    People are not taught anymore morals, determination, and hard work anymore. They expect to be rewarded for showing up. They are not taught that you grow in life by overcoming your weaknesses.
    The minute I fell in love with Kendrick and downloaded every Kendrick song was when I seen an interviewer ask Kendrick about the Control verse and Kendrick responded they need to work harder.
    Kendrick just proved hard-work, determination, and investigation will make you rise to the top. He just proved before he went he showed up to the front line, he did a deep dive on absolutely everything In Drake’s past, friends and family are, habits, his strengths/weaknesses, etc. Kendrick only united the West Coast but hopefully will make people realize that they need be held accountable for their actions, not everyone deserves a trophy, that hard-work does pay off. Kendrick is teaching people it’s okay if you’re not perfect but with some determination and a Humble mindset, you will be Alright!!
