  • In this episode watch as we make custom water and waste tanks from sheets of 1/4 inch HDPE plastic. Since we had over 3 hours of content, we’ve brought this down to a manageable size, and published 2 videos specifically for plastic welding. If you would like to see those here is the links.

I'm in the same boat as you were where you couldn't find anything but people doing small projects with Jack leg solutions. Thanks a bunch for your thorough video. I´m about to get into constructing a custom tank for my RV. I need to know though, because the water tank in my vehicle is gonna be a supply for both shower and the regular tab, so is the materials and the methods you use food grade? I wont be using the water from the tank for ingestion, but for rinsing vegetables, doing dishes, for brushing my teeth and taking a shower.
    I hope you´ll take the time to answer my question.
    Cheers.

    My biggest fear would be welding leaks. Even the professionals using professional tools have issues with imperfect plastic welds and have special tools to detect them. In Silvie's defense, I think pressurizing the tanks was a great idea, and your tanks are likely stronger now than they would have been had you not discovered the weak points. Filling a stationary tank with water is one thing, having several hundred pounds of water (or sewage) sloshing around in a bay going down the road is another. Best to find out now. How many PSI did you pressurize?

    • @LacroixCruiser
      @LacroixCruiser  3 роки тому

      She pressurized to about 30 psi. You’ll see in the next episode, we are not relying on the welds to support anything.

    • @danp762
      @danp762 3 роки тому +2

      @@LacroixCruiser 30 psi. Wow, that is a lot for something like this. 😃 But I think Dell is right. Those leaks would have developed down the road anyways.

  • @jasonshimkus6139
    @jasonshimkus6139 3 роки тому

    If I may ask, how much did the materials cost to make 2 tanks that size?
    I ask because I sourced two 165 gallon tanks and the total was just over 1600 USD. I know I can rent the heat gun a welding tips from my local home Depot for relatively cheap, so if the materials aren't too expensive I may do the same thing with my bus. Moreso for the reason of better accuracy for placement of the fittings like you did taking the base in and lining it up first.
    Keep up the great work though!

      @@LacroixCruiser I meant what kind of fitting did you put on the tanks to hook to your air compressor? Also, I am assuming that the final side you welded was only welded on the outside and did not connect to the baffles?

    • @LacroixCruiser
      @LacroixCruiser  2 роки тому

      Just a 1/2 npt fitting. The top was just welded on the outside of the tanks, and the baffles do no go to the top of the tanks to not create any air pockets.
