it does what alot of batman stories (with older batman) don't develop batman's character because you can't develop a seasoned batman because he's already is peak perfection
I like this. Good words. I watch these videos partially because of how torn I am sometimes by it. I eventually decided City and Knight as a combo are my favorite. It's not actually that important to have a favorite or to deem one the best, but it's fun to dissect what moves you and understand yourself in that way and these games resonate so differently with different people.
Yeah, for sure. Arkham has the best environmental and atmospheric storytelling. City has the best worldbuilding and the best plotting (and ending), Origins has the best character writing and overall depth, and Knight feels the most epic and and is probably the most thematically complex. Because of this, people can prefer and of these stories the most. It really does boil down to what aspect of a story is most important to you (environment, atmosphere, tone, worldbuilding, plot, characters, dialogue, stakes, theme, pacing, etc.)
One thing I really like about the Asylum story is that you, Batman, don't immediately know the reason for the Joker's escape and the Titan formula, and it's through Oracle's investigation and Batman's deduction that they discover it. And to all this, I love how the Joker patient interview tapes, in which Dr. Young speaks, little by little the doctor realizes the trap she fell into. It really makes you FEEL like you are Batman.
I really enjoyed Origins and was pretty upset when I saw all the Arkham games BUT Origins on game pass. Didn’t stop me from playing all of them but was still quite upset
I personally would give it to Origins. It's just a great young Batman story that really shows how tremendous of a person Bruce can really be. My 2nd favorite would be a tie between City & Knight as they explore a lot of good Batman themes.
Ngl, Hugo giving updates on how long is left until Protocol 10 is a really neat detail that gives you the idea that time is actually moving in the game
Knight is my personal favourite, Scarecrow and Red Hood are some of my favourite characters so having them play such big roles was awsome to see. The stakes ans scope of the game was also amazing. Also, I don't see this brought up anywhere, but I think Knight handled side missions the best. Not to say they were overall better than the other games, but they were better intergrated into the story. City sets the stakes so high that anything you do outside the main story feels like wasting time when there's more important work to do. While Knight has intervals where the situation calms down and they encourage you to "take back control of the city" which make the sode missions feel more intertwined with the narrative. Especially since many of them are directly connected to the main plot, like all the villians having truces with each other to destroy Batman
For me knight only has a problem when you play it for the first time and you know the lore and that is of course that the plot is predictable however when you know that i think overall the story is still enjoyable
@@Jam-og1km oh yh me to and it makes playing arkham asylum or the more interesting knowing that jason is in the asylum only a few steps infront of batman
@@Jam-og1km for me unfortunately I got spoiled on Jason being red hood and I only played the game in the summer of 2023 it's crazy, the reason I didn't play the game earlier is that I didn't have a good pc to run it until the summer
my personal favorite story is origins. the whole Christmas vibe, with a young and brutal batman going up against a young joker and their relationship getting more and more intense really amazes me. carol of the bells makes cutscenes even better. like you said, characters like bane, firefly and deathstroke are so well done. my favourite versions of them tbh. Batman's and Alfred's co-working is so good too, like you said. DLC story was really good too. batman discovering what happened to nora and feeling compassion for freeze was amazingly well done
@@relarin952I'll give you that. As much as I love Arkham City, actually being able to see Alfred in person was great. Doesn't make Origins' story better than City's, but still very cool.
@@nlb4435 I think he meant that Alfred actually exists in the game as an NPC. like, you can go to him and make conversations instead of him just showing up randomly for a few seconds and disappearing again
I think Origins has the best story because of how well the characters are done. I love the focus on Bruce, Alfred, and commissioner Gordon. Then we have Batman’s first encounters with Joker, Bane and the rest of his rogues gallery Plus the section where Harley interviews joker and mistakenly thinks he is talking about her instead of batman
Honestly.....I CAN'T CHOOSE. ALL OF THESE 4 ARKHAM STORIES ARE ONE OF THE BEST BATMAN STORIES EVER TOLD, and I'm not saying it because of a nostalgia, it's because they tell deep, mature and true to the character stories and it feels like this is a sucessor to Batman The Animated Series. Each of these stories has distinct feel and style: Asylum: Outlast (before Outlast) style Horror; City: Atmosphere and feeling of being trapped, as well a little bit of spy thriller; Origins: Christmas Crime Story; Knight: The Hero's Epic Final Stand; And all of this was amazing. ALSO DON'T GET ME STARTED HOW AMAZING THE ARKHAMVERSE COMICS AND SOME DLC CAMPAINS ARE!
Wait there's an Arkhamverse??? Also how do you feel about the Telltale games? I think they do a pretty good job of telling a batman story while making it feel really interactive
@@relarin952 Well Arkham-Verse it's what fans call this universe where four Arkham Games take place, as well as related movies, comics and books. As for Telltale Batman....I have mixed feelings on the first season BUT SECOND ONE WAS AMAZING, seeing Batman training The Joker was so cool. And I love some new ideas about backstories (for The Waynes and Vicky Vale for example) and I love that we feeling that our choices as Batman (mostly) effect the story.
@@relarin952I've only played the first season of Telltale's Batman and I really enjoyed it. I still think all four of the Arkham games have better stories but the Telltale Series is still really good.
I remember being so disappointed by Arkham City's story. It's a great game, but the story was such a missed opportunity. The whole premise was a section of the city being turned into a giant prison which is such a cool idea, but the story almost has nothing to do with it! It's all about finding the cure for Joker, a little bit with protocol 10, then back to Joker's cure again. Think of what they could've done with a premise like City's. You could've had a plot where Hugo Strange built it to lure in Batman, knowing he couldn't resist, and use it to slowly break him down mentally, and the whole thing was one big trap. There could've been a mass breakout attempt. Anything other than Strange wanting to kill criminals and finding Joker's cure.
It felt like such an unnecessary twist. If Joker and Strange had been their own fully fledged villains and competed with each other in a sense without Ra's, that would've been so much more intriguing.
City is the best all around game but I’ve always thought it’s story was just a wild goose chase with like 10 different fetch quests. It has great moments but some painfully obvious moments of trying to slow down the story. My ranking would go: 1. Origins (Great with minor flaws) 2. Asylum/City (Good with some glaring flaws) 3. Knight (A mixed bag of good and bad with some incredibly questionable moments of storytelling)
Origins minor flaws but knight a lot? Lol what. Origins directly retcons and ruins the premise of the game by making Black Mask be Joker and (sort of?) a rip off of the clay face twist. That’s not minor flaws
@@JackycakesV2 the black mask twists works within its own isolated story, and if anything knight broke cannon more. Ntm Jason’s entire story being shoehorned in so heavily it ruins all suspense on who the Arkham knight could be.
I love that origins didn't just go "8 Assassins=8 levels" it was very clear that some needed more focus than others, hence they were split from main story to side missions. The side missions weren't just a distraction from the plot but was all weaved together
Why is nobody considering Knight? Batman was fighting himself mentally all game, fighting someone that knew him very well, and scarecrow was finally given the spotlight to torture Gotham? The riddler’s ego was also captured brilliantly. Pyg landed well, and Knightfall was peak.
Because Knight is a collection of plot holes. I love the game, I replay it at least twice a year, but its plot is lackluster to say the least. Why is Batman infected if he drank the cure in arkham city? Why the infection suddenly turns people into joker, when the "disease" that was killing him was caused by the Titan? Why Robin has to research a new cure, if the disease was caused by Joker's infected blood, to which Batman already find a cure in Arkham City? Couldn't he just synthetize more of the existent one? How is Batman able to kill the joker inside him, without taking any kind of antidote/cure?
Arkham Knight is a pretty good game but the story isn’t good with it getting worse and worse the more times you replay it and think about especially as a finale to the series. Arkham city sets up Hush, Scarecrow, and Harley Quinn’s baby to be major plot points in the next game just for them to scrap harley quinn’s baby and relegate hush to a 5 minute side mission. While Scarecrow is the “main villain” and is the best part of the game he’s only in it for 20 MINUTES. Which is crazy how under-utilised he is. Harley’s role is a complete disservice to her character with her for some reason wanting to love some strangers because they act like joker? And the Joker blood plotline makes absolutely no sense because how does having someone’s blood which yes is infected with titan disease turn them into joker? Shouldn’t it be killing them instead? Also Batman took the cure in city so how is he infected? Just because he has someone’s blood inside of him doesn’t mean he is going to act like that person. The Arkham Knight/Jason Todd doesn’t work well narratively in a world where the joker is already dead. His whole reason for hating batman is letting the joker live after torturing him and crippling oracle as he will never stop killing people. Also he is just pretty stupid especially during the cloudburst section. The biggest plothole I have with the entire game though is if the Arkham Knight/Deathstroke are the “Genius tactical masterminds” which we are told again and again why are the tanks unmanned?! Jason and probably deathstroke know batmans no kill rule so why doesn’t he utilise it by arming the tanks with people then batman can’t do shit about it. Instead he makes the unmanned and Batman can fight back without breaking his rule
@@Cameron_9 you’re right the game has a lot of plot holes and missed opportunities holding it back, but when you take it for what it is, you can enjoy a lot of the characters, good voice acting, the world in the game, etc. What I think knight does very well is make you feel like Batman. I have Knight as the 3rd/2nd best in the series, only ahead of asylum, whereas some people have it ahead of Origins. City is my undisputed goat, and I love origins but that game is just fan service (which I can’t complain about). For me asylum can’t be the best in the series because it’s the blueprint, and everything evolved from there. Pretty off topic, but I prefer the Arkham series to the Spider-Man series, and any other superhero game series ever.
@@h24anderant64is your only reason because of joker? And he’s able to get rid of joker because it’s a fear of his, becoming bwl. He overcomes his fears with the help of fear gas.
@@Cameron_9I don’t know why people talk about jason not being good for the arkham knight. When you said that his reason for hating batman is because he let joker live is what got me to reply. This is arkham knight. Not red hood. The torture jason went through was completely different from under the red hood. Joker tortured him so much he managed to manipulate jason into hating batman for not coming to save him. He was tortured for over a year. It makes perfect sense
Yes, Origins is the best story, for the reasons you stated. In the other entries, the characters are mostly static, but here both our hero and villain have an arc. Batman goes from angry loner to stoic leader, and Joker goes from wanting Batman dead to wanting Batman to stay alive so that they can continue their "game" together. And yes, Bane is perfect.
Origins' story really felt like it was a movie level project. Batman becoming a hero, the start of Joker and Batman's legendary relationship and adventures, the incredible side-villains, the Christmas charm and an extremely immersive and memorable Gotham map just came together really well in this game. It felt like a classic Batman movie that encapsulates everything a good Batman story should have.
Great breakdown. Imo Knight had the best story and the build up would’ve been great if every time you got gassed by scarecrow in the other games you’d see Jason. Then you get the final cutscene in knight
That’s because the other 3 were made by the same company and origins were not you can tell just look at how different the banes are they look weaker than the origins
For me, Knight was the best, not necessarily in story, but in *storytelling.* Yeah we all knew the Arkham Knight was Red Hood was Jason Todd, but the way it presents it, through Batman having hallucinations depicting Jason's torture leading up to Batman confronting Jason head-on, is really well done.
Origins is awesome, but I'll probably go with Arkham Knight as my favorite story, I just love the performance of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, I think they have the most emotional parts in this one, especially when Batman defeat Joker in his mind, plus it was cool to see Mark Hamill's really mean and scary in the moment where he beats Jason, since he's usually takes more comedic approach in Batman TAS, also cut scenes as great as always, especially lighting
Bane being done justice in origins is very true. At first everyone sees him as thos meathead lmao. BUt the moment where bruce finds out that bane figured out his identity is such a badass moment, loved it.
Origins is the best story wise because we actually get character development for Batman, Alfred, Gordon, and getting to see into Jokers mind and how he views Batman after meeting him, Harleys first interaction with Joker, it’s awesome to see where these characters began and start to see them change into the characters we know they end up becoming
Yes! 100 percent agree with you on origins. The story was so good and you also feel as if you grow into being Batman as He does. So glad people are starting to see that this game was not just more of the same. Love Troy Bakers Joker and Roger was a excellent choice for Batman.
As someone who played through the story mode of Arkham City over 22 times, spending years playing challenge mode daily and routinely reaching 700-1000 combo (without using the trick where you repeatedly jump over an enemy to cancel out counters), I must say: its hard for me to go back to City. I prefer pretty much everything about Knight
I have to disagree with the idea that Asylum had no stakes. Had Batman not stopped Joker's plan to release Toxin into the waters of Gotham, the effects would have arguably been worse than anything in the other games, what with all the city's inhabitants turning into titan monsters at Joker's command. I completely agree about Origins though. It DID feel like it came to a very abrupt end. It felt like the game was maybe 3/4 of the way complete, and that it needed more to feel natural. Great video though, it was insightful to see what you thought of each game's story!
I agree with your thoughts on Arkham Origins. I always play it first not just because it's chronologically the first game for the series, but just because of how fun it is too. The game just sets off a realistic setting similar to Nolan and Reeves' films. Bane in that game is my favorite version of him in all the Batman franchise. He definitely looks better than how he did in Asylum and City. However, him getting huge at the end of Origins did look silly. But still, having him look similar to Tom Hardy's Bane while giving him a mask similar to the one in the comics is just perfect. His fights in that game are done better than in Asylum. Deathstroke's boss fight was indeed better in that game than in Knight. It was amazing to see when Batman and Gordon's friendship start.
Bro, i think that we are in agreement that Origins was the best in the Arkham Series. Don't get me wrong.... I love all of the Arkham games but something about Origins just hit different. You hit the nail on the head with character developments, cutscenes, the musical scores, the number of characters that actually get the spotlight....etc. I could go off for hours about this game. When I first got this game, i was excited to hear Kevin Conroy voice batman again (as pre-release, he HIMSELF said in an interview that they were working on something big. Turns out he was meaning Arkham Knight) but then was let down when it was Roger Craig Smith. BUT, I gave it a chance and god damn... am I glad I did. To this day, Origins is still my favorite Batman game.
arkham knight has the best story for me. bec like u said the stakes were too high and the arkham knight was a perfect villan with good backstory + seeing my fav robin jason todd as the main villan deserve the s tier for me
Origins is sooo good I loved it from the day I got it and Christopher Drakes music was so good my only problem is bc of I am the knight mode I hate solving the Lacey towers but the cutscene under the gcpd where Bruce properly figures it out is one of my favourites in the game
Arkham asylum: best atmosphere (gotta love gothic) Arkham city: best open world Arkham origins: best story Arkham knight: best gameplay (imo they perfected the fighting and stealth)
Asylum, imo. It had the best cast of villains and is missing only that fight with Freeze. The game being Joker's show and being shorter, lending to replayability, makes it my favorite arkham game despite the more limited gameplay.
I think the ending for the red hood was perfect while never directly stated there are hints and clues and things u can find in the details that show he was going to replace batman after u stop him and complete the story you find people talking about him and you also can find his symbol if he beat batman this was going to be the same outcome but I think thats really cool he stopped blaming batman and took control of his own path
Also honestly the Christmas aesthetic and atmosphere I really like, but yes it has the best story, I agree completely. I also love the irony of electrocutioner being a joke but his gloves saving Alfred and ultimately maybe even bane’s life
Origins was the first Batman's game I finished, and I freaking loved Batman here, showing him like he really is, a human being, the moment he started to feel guilty about Alfred, and the crime on Gotham, was pure gold, also the side mission about the murderer of his friends, and how he losses his mind and rages while interrogating the murderer, and Alfred having to tell him to stop, it just suprised me how can we see Batman like that, I totally agree with you and also you just won a subscriber, and sorry if my english is not perfect.
For me, Arkham City still is the best game and has the best story, but Origins is extremely close to beating it. The Finales for both of them are amazing with the fight between Batman and Joker in the Chapel and The Clayface Battle itself (also Batman using a sword) being some of my favorite moments in video games.
I totally agree with you, I always say Origins have the best story in the Arkham series. And that why I’m mad because they didn’t Remastered it for PS4/5.
Bro that isn't THE ENDING of Origins, that's the epilogue. "The ending" is a lot of things, from Batman and Gordon having their first full conversation and implicit agreement on being partners off the books, to Joker's obsession with Batman being born out of how baffled he was after Batman saved his life for the first time, to Bruce and Alfred making amends and Alfred wishing him merry Christmas. The video is good but that specific criticism was very stupid.
@@SoyboyPeter because it’s the most cleverly written, the most mature, the most loyal to character source material, the most expansive, shocking twists, iconic scenery, the most enthralling & exciting & very heartfelt throughout the whole game & most importantly.. NOT CRINGEY.
@@frankwoods9680 Two face stupidly let’s catwoman keep her claws. Which is the only reason she’s still alive. Joker doesn’t call off his men so Batman can return with the antidote quicker. Freeze destroys one of the antidotes for no reason at all. He could saved an antidote for Batman and Nora. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work on Nora. He easily could have held the antidote hostage to ensure Batman would go rescue Nora in exchange for him being healed. Harley reveals that Joker is keeping Freeze’s tech in the basement like a dimwit. Talia forms a stupid deal with Clayface Joker instead of straight up impaling him while he’s not looking. Hugo Strange inexplicably uses Waynetech security terminals at at his office located at the top floor of Wonder Tower. He want actually went out of his way to purchase a security terminal of his worst enemy and didn’t expect Batman wouldn’t be able to hack it. This is hardly faithful to these characters.
@@SoyboyPeterCatwomans claws are a part of her bodysuit so obviously that’s not gonna work, she’s also tied up, I imagine if he were to try & remove that she would’ve woke up & beat his ass. You’re talking about supervillains here, you’re literally talking about THE JOKER why does he do anything he does, obviously he knows Batman will just take out the henchmen, why are you trying to understand THE JOKER, he plays games. Yes Mr. Freeze could have used one cure for Batman & the other for getting his wife back, he’s supposed to be smart but I’ll put that down to a brain fart from Freeze but also!.. he’s a villain, he probably didn’t have faith in Batman to bring back Nora so tried to take no risk in letting Batman heal up & Joker noticing the change in Batman and killing Nora, because he’s madly in love. Harley is a dimwit because she is a dimwit. The Talia one is weird since she’s an assassin dealing with her sworn enemies.. criminals, when she could have just ‘killed’ Joker (Clayface) since she had the cure, but dialogue in the game states that Talia “doesn’t know who she’s dealing with” so she’s probably none the wiser to how abominable the Joker is thinking she’ll casually make this deal in return for the safety of her beloved, she was probably respecting Batmans ‘no killing code’ until she was captured & saw that even still Batman wouldn’t kill, so she made her point in front of him & then boom. Maybe WayneTech is the most advanced tech available but also he changed the encryption to Tyger security so I think that’s irrelevant, I also think he didn’t actually expect Batman to make it this far. But Freeze’s decision to do that was a very minor moment that had a very drastic effect.
Personally I think Origins was my favorite story, felt really Batman like, every story was great except for Knight imo Edit: LFG!!!! HES SPITTIN ON THIS TAKE! We didnt even mention the Multiplayer, Origins was my favorite for years and everyone always hated it, the Voice Acting was so fucking great with Batman and Joker, music was great, the atmosphere of being somewhat alone (no sidekick or Cat-woman mentioned). Origins was amazing…
No moments of origins stick with me outside of Alfred almost dying and Bruce freaking out, but even that took me out of the story because *I* know Alfred lives. Same thing with Bane learning Batman’s identity. Very Bane, but *I* know it isn’t going to matter because of the other games. If it were actually the first game released then I could probably have felt more attached to it and those moments. City had big ol’ balls and the actual freedom to do whatever with the fate of characters. An unfair advantage, but one that creates so many pivotal scenes
What I hated about Arkham City and Arkham Knight (and I guess, Asylum too, to a lesser extent) was...the convenience. -You need a Lazarus Pit. Lucky for you, it's right here in Arkham City. -You need this rare plant. Luckily, it's right here in the middle of the city (or in the sewer). -You need Ras Al Ghul who's normally in Arabia or something. He's right here in the part of Gotham that you currently have access to. Plus Batman constantly threatening " Do this or I'll burn every plant on Gotham." Just made me cringe.
A cold heart dlc, for arkham origins in awsome. The main campaign is really good and the dlc really puts the icing and strawberry on the cake. Love city too!
Absolutely concour with you, I started playing the Arkham Series August 2023, I started Chronologically (but I played Arkham Knight accidentally on 2020 and completed the story, the things that I didn't know were complemented by my comics knowledge XD) and when I played Origins I thought "Hol' up, before going on I HAVE to do alk the side missions to know lore for the following games" and I """"accidentally"""" got the platinum XD, it was FANTASTIC, i achieved this on January 15th, doing the challenges shit was annoying, AND DON'T TAKK ABOUT THE MULTIPLAYER BECAUSE IT'S EVEN MORE ANNOYING. The next day of achieving the platinum, I started Asylum and oh my god I ended it in 7 DAYS. Now I'm playing arkham City and I can tell that Origins is fucking amazing.
also Origins on top of that has an AMAZING mr.freeze dlc, its a slightly tweaked rendition of the insanely iconic and acclaimed B:TAS episode "heart of ice", and dare i say almost lives up to its inspiration the wayne mansion fire, the mystery and investigation, the sympathetic villain, improved participation of Boyle, the atmosphere not to mention, its way longer than any single Knight dlc and introduces its own mechanics like the heated batarang, thermal gloves or freeze ray enemies
The twist where Ras al Gul was behind protocol 10 wasn't that shocking to me. It seemed to fit in with his m.o. My issue is it was shocking to Batman. Ras al Gul shows up in Arkham City and Batman doesn't question it? Hugo Strange knows everything that goes on in Arkham but ignores the fact there are ninja assassins running around his super prison? Batman is supposed to be a detective but he's unable to put these pieces together.
I just don't think Ra's really needed to exist in that game. Like if Strange was his own power house kind of similar to Scarecrow in the first Batman begins, would've worked so well
He's a detective and relies on evidence to form his opinions on crime. He tries his best to separate emotion from crime fighting. That's why he prefers working alone. Maybe deep down he suspected Ra's to be involved but there wasn't enough tangible evidence for him to objectively prove this suspicion. I don't think Batman is an idiot for not seeing it sooner. Remember he's not perfect and one of his biggest weaknesses is being too emotionless. He learns from this mistake and becomes more emotional in Arkham Knight, being more ruthless against his enemies than ever before for example. Of course he still distances himself from his allies, but again he's not perfect. I think the Arkham version of Batman is a lot more complex than people give him credit for.
I suppose it's Asylum (origins is a second, but it's part is not a great addition to the accumulative story (I mean all games)). Its pretty simple, but it doesn't miss as often like the other, which are very intriguing, specially because of the complexity, but have what i consider poorly executed ideas.
Soooooo hot take!! Arkham Origins is a great game ... now. I think people keep forgetting the story, the Joker twist, and the game pass are not the main reason the game was controversial. It was the sorry state the game was when they released it. Remember it was a PS3/360 game in a time where most people weren't downloading patches or connecting systems to the internet for more than online play. It took me a week to do the last mission because i found out the game crashes unless you approach the bridge from the direction he does in the cut scene. If i did not look it up, it would've remained unfinished. They eventually patched out all the gamebreaking bugs but that doesn't change the messy release
Even on release I didn’t think City had a standout story. Generally unfocused, tonally all over the place. I truly never got the hype for it in that respect.
Wow. Someone who gives Arkham Origins love 🤯 I love all of them. Preordered all of them & to this day I have replayed Origins more than any of the others. Definitely my favorite.
Origins hands down. It was super cool to see Batman grown up as a character, his emotions, his pure hate, his brutality and overall his overcoming, his struggling, his big W and much bigger L and then much much bigger W. And Cold Cold Heart DLC which consider by many Arkham fans the best DLC of all Arkham series. Definitely Origins.
1.origins: it took elements from my two favorite batman story’s (year one and long Halloween) and managed to put these particular villains together in a way that didn’t feel forced like some of the other games. 2.knight: bringing back joker again could feel like a crutch but they managed to bring a fresh take on it(joker is Batman’s Tyler Darden, What a great idea!). Plus making scarecrow a truly terrifying villain and reworking Jason Todd’s story a bit was just amazing! 3.asylum: while a more basic story then the rest it was executed with great efficiency. Slowly uncovering the conspiracy between joker and dr. Young while drawing from yet another great Batman comic just made the whole thing come together beautifully! 4.city: of course I absolutely love city but story wise it’s a convoluted mess. They couldn’t decide who they wanted the big bad of the story to be and it just has the feeling of throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. Again I still adore this game but story wise it’s easily the worst for me.
4:21 about that, i wish batman media recognise these 2 and nominate them as the respective successors of Conroy and Hamill, since one is passed and the other is loyal to his other half and swore he would only voice joker as opposition to Conroy both characters need official animated replacement and this would be perfect
I am so glad origins eventually got the love it deserved, I always personally thought that it was an excellent story with some of the best scenes in the entire series
I've been an Arkham Origins supporter since Day 1 of release. It will always be my favorite Arkham Game. So many fond memories. Also the most underrated Multi-player ever
Based Arkham Origins enjoyer. That game is so overlooked for it's story. It really is a shame it's never gotten remastered and it keeps getting omitted from the collections just because Rocksteady didn't make it. I unironically think it's the best story out of the Arkham franchise. Excellent narrative and it has the great gameplay of City.
To be honest I liked Arkham Knight out of all of them and that’s hard to say because they’re all good even Arkham Blackgate Edition but Origins set the stage. You got to play as Bruce Wayne before he even became Batman in the mini campaign where he’s in training. Too bad I never played back in the day I’m sure I would have had a blast on the multiplayer.
To me it’s between City and Origins. I think City is the quintessential Batman story, it’s the best deep dive into the Batman/Joker dynamic with the two best iterations/actors of these two characters, the perfect blend of fantastical and grounded characters/atmosphere, a powerful and fitting conclusion, and unforgettable moments (Bruce crawling his way through the sewers to get to Ra’s, Protocol 10 and Alfred’s great speech, Joker’s death). Origins, as the name suggests, is an amazing origin story, and quite similar to The Batman, with Bruce growing more and more from the brute that cares about intimidating criminals first, to the protector of Gotham we’ve come to know in the Rocksteady trilogy, his relationship with Alfred, Bane at his absolute best, a fantastic atmosphere and a real emphasis on the detective side of things. One little thing that would make me put City first is the Joker twist, even though I like it, but it still feels a bit forced. Still a goated game just for this one line “Tonight will not be my end… BUT IT WILL BE THEIRS.”
asylum if you listen to all the audio logs on joker and the various villains as you play it makes it more interesting especially as his plan unravels to the audio logs
To me city still has the best story but ORIGINS IS SO CLOSE!!! I have loved origins more as the years as passed! I mean hell I used to play the mobile game all the time. The whole origin story and Batman’s arc in the game as he becomes the true myth, THE DARK KNIGHT is so well done! Bane before his brain dead accident, is done like he his in the comics. A smart man who is very aware of his “partners” and can take them down whenever. Gorgeous cutscenes (also I’m a huge sucker for Christmas themed things and Batman stories where he is a myth/new myth) great fights, the focus of each different character background is phenomenal, and the vibe is beautiful. IMO best detective work in the series. Also seeing Gordon and Barbara grow the relationship with a new Batman and seeing a game version of Year One basically is such a great idea. Don’t even get me started on how the whole one night to kill the bat with 8 different assassins that we know and love, and now we get to see on those 8 assassins shine. Now city is still my favorite of the Arkham games and still has an immaculate story, like how you said about the great leading up to and a phenomenal conclusion, but origins is really close to me!
I agree with you on this . I'll also even defend the negative point you made on the game about the stakes. I believe the stakes were just as high here as knight because if Batman did not develop his character midway through his game he would have lost .
Loved the fights in origins and the suit, Arkham Asylum had a creepy vibe to it for me that made the game so much fun. You know it got real when the intercom would come on in asylum 😂. City for me is the goat. Amazing story, beautiful graphics for the time, it was just a 10/10. Knight was a very well rounded game with some beautiful graphics, a huge map, the tumblr, man it’s a hard choice but I loved em all. City just holds a special spot in my heart
I agree with you entirely. The best story is for certain Origins. Its so underrated. I played through them all but I always loved how different Origins was from the rest. As you said Batman had actual Character development and that is what makes the story so great. The DLC was pretty good too, showing Batman's first encounter with MR. Freeze. I kind of wish Origins had a direct sequel that wasn't 2.5D... Well maybe someday.
Wow that’s crazy cause I didn’t really have much enjoyment with Arkham origins story it didn’t feel like there was any forward momentum really. Asylum had joker loose on the island people dying and titan formula being spread. City had protocol 10 and an entire city run by criminals And knight had the entire city being threatened with fear gas Origins just didn’t have those stakes that keep me interested. Also for the love of god I really wish joker wasn’t a part of the story by that point I was tired of him.
My order is City, origins but by a little bit, knight, then asylum. But each game has one bit I love so much about, especially ASYLUM the atmosphere in that game is so immersive like I can feel how disturbing the asylum is especially when u investigate Easter eggs and listen to some disturbing interview tapes from some characters it’s great, but Arkham city holds a special place in my heart and asylum too they were first two games the introduced me into the world of Batman
@@REaDComicsau The Jason Todd reveal was awful IMO. No setup or foreshadowing made the reveal unsatisfying. They should've actually made the Arkham Knight an original character like they promised in promotional material. The twist of Barbara being alive wasn't as clever as Rocksteady thinks it is. I actually would've respected them more if they stuck to their guns and kept her dead like Joker. Maybe have her as a hallucination for the rest of the game. Maybe the Joker could've taken the form of Barbara, someone Batman trusts and loves, and mess with him appearing as Barbara. That could've been interesting to see Batman's response and it's definitely something the Joker would do. There's just so much potential and missed opportunities with this game's story that I can't help but feel it's a letdown. Which is unfortunate because I love playing the game. I've played it to death. It's just a shame that the story is weak.
The only reason I play asylum is because it’s my favourite story and literally a horror game. It’s also my favourite joker plot and I actually liked the ending because it was pretty badass in my opinion. Currently replaying it again and I’m loving it still.
Origins quickly became my favorite just because of how well they did Bane, since he is my favorite Batman villain, so it was awsome so see him get the respect he deserved.
I’m finally getting around to playing these games and I don’t really care about spoilers as these games have been out for awhile now so how would I not know. I started with Origins, then Asylum, and I’m currently playing City. Then once I basically 100% city I’m doing Knight. So far all stories are winners for me. Based on the fact I haven’t finished City yet, I’d put Asylum as the best but I’m sure that will change once I finish City. I’m just disappointed I never played these earlier.
I think Knight is the best, giving the player Batman in his prime with the best technology and giving him a true threat being himself. He has to face what he fears most: him becoming a villian and he knows that he is unstoppable. If Bruce and Jason got to make up between their meeting or after Jason saved Bruce it would be perfect. But i love all of the stories, City was my first superhero game and it will always be my favorite, but i just like Knights story a little bit more.
Arkham Asylum is really like an episode from the Animated Series but in way darker and scarier (which is amazing). Arkham City and Knight are both trying something brand new, going out of the bounds, willing to kill some major characters for good. Origins however is really like a movie. The character development is just perfection in this game. There is no other game in the series that gives so much importance and emphasis to Gordon, Alfred, Bane and the relationship between Batman and Joker. It really is up to anybody’s preference and that’s what makes this series so good. Hope Origins will also get the remaster treatment with DLCs included like previous games.
Arkham Origins to me is the only game I go play when I want to play a Batman Arkham game. The only one. Rocksteady trilogy is great, that's no doubt, but to me, Batman Arkham Origins is the definitive Batman game. So well-written, so well-paced, so many characters introduced LOGICALLY during one single night, Christmas vibes, voice acting, some gameplay features, and reasonable amount of Riddler trophies. My God, this is top-tier. All the other games I can... criticize, let's just say that. But the Origins was so well done it still amazes me.
My preference is amazing conclusions and with how often people butcher them stories like Arkham Knight that don't butcher them shine more because of it hence why it's my favorite. A perfect ending imo. And I also love beginnings and especially with how prequels are 2nd worst handled Origins also shines more because of it and is my 2nd favorite. City is 3rd for me, but all 3 have masterpiece stories. I also love Asylum, but that's more so a masterpiece as a game rather than story.
Please flame me for the amount of times I said “story” in this video.

Asylum in my opinion has the most potential to have a movie based on it, such an incredibly simple yet intriguing story

@@shadowking773💀
It really makes you FEEL like you are Batman.
man the patient interview tapes have to be the best feature of asylum

Batman's and Alfred's co-working is so good too, like you said. DLC story was really good too. batman discovering what happened to nora and feeling compassion for freeze was amazingly well done
The fact that Alfred actually existed in that game was so cool!
@@relarin952I'll give you that. As much as I love Arkham City, actually being able to see Alfred in person was great. Doesn't make Origins' story better than City's, but still very cool.

I love the focus on Bruce, Alfred, and commissioner Gordon.
Then we have Batman’s first encounters with Joker, Bane and the rest of his rogues gallery
Plus the section where Harley interviews joker and mistakenly thinks he is talking about her instead of batman
yeah city is just bcoz of nostalgia but we all know origins has far better story and character developement than city
12:01 this plot twist was better then the fake joker gag 💀
Honestly.....I CAN'T CHOOSE. ALL OF THESE 4 ARKHAM STORIES ARE ONE OF THE BEST BATMAN STORIES EVER TOLD, and I'm not saying it because of a nostalgia, it's because they tell deep, mature and true to the character stories and it feels like this is a sucessor to Batman The Animated Series.
Each of these stories has distinct feel and style:
Asylum: Outlast (before Outlast) style Horror;
City: Atmosphere and feeling of being trapped, as well a little bit of spy thriller;
Origins: Christmas Crime Story;
Knight: The Hero's Epic Final Stand;
And all of this was amazing. ALSO DON'T GET ME STARTED HOW AMAZING THE ARKHAMVERSE COMICS AND SOME DLC CAMPAINS ARE!

Batman don’t got time for babes 🦇
My ranking would go:
1. Origins (Great with minor flaws)
2. Asylum/City (Good with some glaring flaws)
3. Knight (A mixed bag of good and bad with some incredibly questionable moments of storytelling)
City is above asylum’s story im willing to hear Origins. But asylum’s ending was just entirely too underwhelming
@@DeeDeeDeeeee black mask twist would work if the whole marketing wasn’t about black mask. And the fact it was joker disappointed people rightfully so
@@DeeDeeDeeeee and what did knight retcon?
Scarecrow’s design in Arkham Knight is straight-up nightmare fuel

Origins also introduced Anarchy but he was never mentioned ever again
That’s because the other 3 were made by the same company and origins were not you can tell just look at how different the banes are they look weaker than the origins
Mentioned yes seen no
For me, Knight was the best, not necessarily in story, but in *storytelling.*
Yeah we all knew the Arkham Knight was Red Hood was Jason Todd, but the way it presents it, through Batman having hallucinations depicting Jason's torture leading up to Batman confronting Jason head-on, is really well done.
Awesome. Exactly how I feel
I agree with your verdict 1000% 🔥🔥🔥

Arkham asylum: best atmosphere (gotta love gothic)
Arkham city: best open world
Arkham origins: best story

Asylum, imo. It had the best cast of villains and is missing only that fight with Freeze. The game being Joker's show and being shorter, lending to replayability, makes it my favorite arkham game despite the more limited gameplay.
I think the ending for the red hood was perfect while never directly stated there are hints and clues and things u can find in the details that show he was going to replace batman after u stop him and complete the story you find people talking about him and you also can find his symbol if he beat batman this was going to be the same outcome but I think thats really cool he stopped blaming batman and took control of his own path

Personally I agree that knight has the best gameplay, origins best boss fights, city best story, Asylam best atmosphere.
6:52 I loved the Batmobile in Batman: Arkham Knight, IMO.

Now I'm playing arkham City and I can tell that Origins is fucking amazing.
also Origins on top of that has an AMAZING mr.freeze dlc, its a slightly tweaked rendition of the insanely iconic and acclaimed B:TAS episode "heart of ice", and dare i say almost lives up to its inspiration
the wayne mansion fire, the mystery and investigation, the sympathetic villain, improved participation of Boyle, the atmosphere
not to mention, its way longer than any single Knight dlc and introduces its own mechanics like the heated batarang, thermal gloves or freeze ray enemies
I think the Arkham version of Batman is a lot more complex than people give him credit for.
origins has much better story than city
@@shadowking773 No. A good story but not better.
I suppose it's Asylum (origins is a second, but it's part is not a great addition to the accumulative story (I mean all games)). Its pretty simple, but it doesn't miss as often like the other, which are very intriguing, specially because of the complexity, but have what i consider poorly executed ideas.
Him gradually losing his mind at 10:35 is the best part of the video
4:21 about that, i wish batman media recognise these 2 and nominate them as the respective successors of Conroy and Hamill, since one is passed and the other is loyal to his other half and swore he would only voice joker as opposition to Conroy
both characters need official animated replacement and this would be perfect
"SIKE B*TCH U THOUGHT-" was super funny 😂
I love this man he actually got me at the end but he mad good argument and judgement so I fw his opinion
Finally some justice for Arkham Origins
its nice to see that people are liking origins now, its always been my favorite and it always sucked being left out yk
I’m glad the internet finally likes origins because its always been my favorite
Bro, you are the Arkham Judge
Two face was criminally underused in all of the Arkham games
City had protocol 10 and an entire city run by criminals
And knight had the entire city being threatened with fear gas
Origins just didn’t have those stakes that keep me interested. Also for the love of god I really wish joker wasn’t a part of the story by that point I was tired of him.
I got so hype when you said SYKE
And the most craziest thing about all these games they all take place in one Night 👏🏻
Origins has always been my favorite so I love this vid
My order is City, origins but by a little bit, knight, then asylum. But each game has one bit I love so much about, especially ASYLUM the atmosphere in that game is so immersive like I can feel how disturbing the asylum is especially when u investigate Easter eggs and listen to some disturbing interview tapes from some characters it’s great, but Arkham city holds a special place in my heart and asylum too they were first two games the introduced me into the world of Batman
Arkham Knight, it’s my all time favourite, nothing better!
Dude the way that story swings so high is amazing. It might not always hit the mark but it hits more than it misses
Arkham City has the better narrative though. Arkham Knight takes the best gameplay and DLC. But Arkham City takes the best story.
@@spinny003 it is a matter of opinion. I think Knight has the best story.
@@spinny003 again, it’s a matter of opinion, get over it.
The only reason I play asylum is because it’s my favourite story and literally a horror game. It’s also my favourite joker plot and I actually liked the ending because it was pretty badass in my opinion. Currently replaying it again and I’m loving it still.
I think we can all agree the electrocutioner was by far the hardest boss in the game, I was stuck on it for 3 days before finally beating him.
Not gonna lie, as soon as he said “people’s general opinion people di-ride is blah blah” I knew he’d take the edgy route and pick origins lmao
when i first saw the thumnail i thought batman was flipping Deathstroke off 😂😂
Origins quickly became my favorite just because of how well they did Bane, since he is my favorite Batman villain, so it was awsome so see him get the respect he deserved.
