If Gandhi were to return, he would still wish the people of India had been armed and many lives would have been saved. If Lincoln were to return, he would still want his soldiers armed just as they are armed today.

Don Saito Look at Australia which implemented a buy back/ban on assault weapons in 1997. Murder rates are the same, assault rates have actually went up and robberies have went up (although to be fair, robberies using a gun has went down, they are now using different types of weapons). Banning the guns is not going to be the solution and Australia is now realizing that. Stricter checks and recertification (like with drivers licenses) is going to be the only way of making sure guns are in the right hands. Is it going to cure it 100%? No, but banning them out right won't either.

Australia had no legal definition of "home invasion" when the crime 'decrease' studies occurred, so to make their 'stats' look better, they have not included some crimes committed while entering another's home. The new laws were in limbo, in legislation. Home invasions themselves went up 150% (about 1000 to 2500), remember too Australia has less than 20 million people.
