Concept of LARPs is so fascinating to me and I tried several of them but they always went poorly for me. Since I was a newbie, I was always given a role of some third-rate guardsman or salesman. I never have a moment to shine, a power to invoke or a speech to matter - they were reserved to the main role-guys with great costumes and years of experience. Other players told me that I need to be more proactive to matter, I need to scheme and to create my own story - but I don't have that inside me. For a long time I thought that LARP just wasn't meant for the guys like me - but this video made me rethink it. Maybe I just haven't been on a good LARP yet?
4 years ago I watched this video when I wrote my first oneshot LARP, and this helped me a lot, there were of course mistakes but my LARP is partly the reason why my local university's DND and roleplay club continues to do larps. Today, im writing for an ongoing LARP for that same club, and this information is helping a lot tool. Thank you Jeff
Every new LARP organizer should watch this. I am hosting my 2nd newbie-larp to my group of friends and this helped me a lot. I think it's now more failproof, even though I can't control the players. Especially the idea of connecting characters properly, having secret information available and abandoning pointless mechanics. Regards unofficial Finnish Nordic Larper

It's a lot of good advice but most of the games you describe have characters who you make yourself. Do you have any more advice pertaining to LARPs in which the characters are made by the players?
I have never LARPed in my life, other than playing pretend as a child and doing egg hunts, but I think an Avatar is fine as long as every single Avatar is given enough motivations. The NPCs can be more of the well written characters.
I’m writing one that can be used in a local park with little kids with their parents, where everyone has to find food on top of discovering the world and finding out what “team” they want to side with. That way whole families motivations are already immediately to eat, and then next to choose to be loyal (or not) to the people they meet.
