    Hopefully this video gives you some ideas as to how you can use the LC500R, or even RGB lighting in general. You see a lot of videos online where LED light sticks are used primarily in frame for music videos, etc, but you can get a whole lot more usage out of them, especially with functions like CCT mode and different effects!
    Don't forget I use Artlist for my background music and you can get an extra 2 months free with this link - artlist.io/artlist-70446/?artlist_aid=RobEllis_888&RobEllis_888&RobEllis_888 :D

    5:34, its incredible, that in 2020, you can achieve the most cinematic look, I have ever seen on UA-cam, eventhough I follow the vast majority of video shooter youtubers. These days you can get a Sigma ART 18-35 and a Blackmagic 2.5k under 2000 dollar if I count it right, and man, if anyone would puts your cinematic shots in the front of me and says this is a Netflix or HBO original, I would belive it.

    I’m starting to see your channel as a silver lining to this lockdown year. I’m sure that with consistency, your kind of to the point, educational content will gain even more traction along the way. So I’ve decided to sub to keep up.
    If I may though, do you mind including your lighting gear, rig, and stand etc. in your descriptions? I’ve come to realise that lighting and rigging may actually have a more immediate impact to one’s image than a camera or lens, especially if we’re viewing it through UA-cam’s compression

      I have 2 that I use all the time!! (an 672s and 672w) they are great, small and very good priced nowadays.
      If you pair them with a super cheap Yongnuo 360 light stick, you can do many things. The only problem is that they might have not enough power if you need fight daylight, but they can help you a lot.
      If I need power, I just attach the 2 together with a double screw and make them a single source, then add some difussion in front of them (5 in 1 reflectors are great tools for that). You can then use the YN360 for backlight or accent light. Or you can set the reflector to fill the light or as negative fill.
      When I don't need all the power I then use one as a keylight (they work great with a cheap umbrella) and can use the other as background light or whatever. What I really think is that the orange filter for turning them into tungsten temperature sucks :D so I always use them as daylight temp or attach some good filters if necessary.

    • @RobEllisCinematographer
      @RobEllisCinematographer  2 роки тому +1

      Something like an SL200 will give you more flexibility in terms of power and modification (bright output, can compete with window light, easy to use with softboxes, etc). A tube light will give you more flexibility in terms of colour and placement (colour settings, can place in awkward positions more easily, etc). I would recommend both as part of a varied lighting kit!

    • @stevegreen9474
      @stevegreen9474 4 роки тому +1

      Hi,
      I bought one to go along with the LC500Rs.
      Pretty good - although much the same as the rest of those mini lights like the Pixel G1, Falconeyes F7 - it has the variable speed on effects the same as the LC500Rs, shame it doesn't have any app or remote connectivity though. (apart from the convenience, what's quite useful is that if you're operating from the remote it seems to sync some of the FX which is useful if you want that)
      I wish there was more customisability on all of them though - the sound to light thing would be good for practical lighting from muzzle flashes if you could dial in the colour.
      In short, good if you want it to match with the LC500Rs in look for the effects, just a shame about no remote control.
      Hope that helps!

    • @mindblast5892
      @mindblast5892 4 роки тому

      @@stevegreen9474 helps greatly, it is similarly priced (in the indian market where im located at the moment) as the aputure MC, which seems to be extremely customisable and well reviewed, im just really after the extra output... i need it to mimic a campfire which will be present in a lot of shots in my next project and I am worried neither will be strong enough to counter the blue gelled light i will set up as key light (moonlight motivated) and maybe just go for the LC500R, thanks a lot for your input

    • @stevegreen9474
      @stevegreen9474 4 роки тому +1

      @@mindblast5892 you're welcome - I think the problem with a lot of the light effects is that they're not per LED, (bar a couple of the more expensive ones) so the light isn't dancing about just ramping up and down.
      Ideally you'd probably want 2 or 3 with the animation offset, but obviously that's going to cost more.

    • @mindblast5892
      @mindblast5892 4 роки тому

      @@stevegreen9474 absolutely! you are so right! as i was watching reviews on rgb lights i noticed the specific fire effect is too "smooth" and its dimming up and down instead of a fire dance. would it make sense to get 2-3 smaller ones then? play around with them until i have found a realistic combination? (if i understand correctly, thats what you are suggesting) eg. one on "fire" setting, one on "lightning" but set the colour to mimic fire, and one static or a third effect .. etc. would that make sense ? or would the intervals all blend into a bad efffect?
      maybe an LC500R on fire and an MC on an effect? for refrence prices here are M1 (100$) MC (110$) and LC500R (170$) and all are affordable to me so what do you think will work best? thanks for sharing knowledge and taking the time!

    • @stevegreen9474
      @stevegreen9474 4 роки тому

      @@mindblast5892 hard to say, I haven't tried the MCs.
      The lightning might work at a low level in addition, although you'd have to gel it as it's white rather than a warmer colour like the flame.
      If you've got someone to operate the light, you'll get a shifting shadow if they can rotate it and move it about a bit too.
      Maybe also try bouncing it around a bit off some surfaces, or hanging some light diffusion material in front which is blowing around might give it a bit more life.
      Good luck!

    Question: would you white balance your camera for daylight to accurately capture RGB lights?

      Purely a creative choice, unless you have RGB mixed with a daylight source/sources, and you need to balance for the daylight, then you'd white balance your camera for daylight. Same would go for tungsten :)

    HEY ROB THINKING OF BUYING A COUPLE OF RGB LIGHTS WOULD IT BE PERFECT TO GO WITH THIS ONE (LC500R) OR GVM 800D WOULD BE BETTER. FOR BACKDROP LIGHTING.

      That is very dependant on how you want your backdrop lighting to look - I would recommend getting one of each just so you know how each light works/spreads so you can make the right decision for what you need the light for :)

    With your set up you could easily do the Blade Runner movie with no issue

    Hey Rob! How does it compare with cheaper RGB sticks, like the yongnuo yn360 v1? Can't find anything regarding the quality of light to compare. The mais thing seems the effects, but the price point is so different that it obviously can`t be just that.

      I'd imagine things like battery life and light output are better on the Godox - I've never used the Yongnuo so I couldn't say for sure!

    Do you use C-stands or heavy duty light stands with boom arms?
