I have been to several places in Europe and watched many people with high B, C and D wings that can't kite their wing. Their take offs are terrible. All the while, watching many in low B wings launching just fine. Same people try to launch with 4 wind socks all blowing in different directions. (At Oludinez). I have frequently questioned in my mind anyway, what kind of example these people are setting for the newbees.
In no other sector of aviation do people get licensed to fly without learning how to handle emergency situations I'd already been flying helicopters for almost 40 years before starting to fly paragliders. With 17,000 helicopter hours I can tell you that I've spent months and months and months training for emergencies both in real helicopters and in full motion simulators that are barely indistinguishable from the real thing. I am all for training.
Amazing conversation, one I've had with my club recently. It did feel that it was pushed as something I SHOULD do as a priority to my flying career. I'd love to do one, for me it's just not a priority.

It might seem like a lame question but I would love to know how you go about preventing tangles in your lines with sticks and weeds on the ground when your setting up on top of a mountain? I seem to get brutal amounts of sticks in my lines a lot of the times I try launching new places and it drives me crazy to the point that I have thought about bringing a weed wacker up with me to decare war on the native plants. At least where i want to launch any way. Is there a way i can work with the plants instead of against them. Because we all know nature will win. What is your secret? Thank you for all of the great knowlege you share
When setting your wing up leave it rosetted mostly, just open and fluff the center cells and of course make sure your lines are clear, then use the center A’s to inflate your wing from the center, it will inflate to the tips and you have to make sure it’s all clear and you have no tension knots or cravats during inflation.

I totally agree pilots should endeavor to repack their own shoots. I was afraid of my equipment for the longest time.
