I only watch Reviews of Games I either already bought, or I know I will never buy. If at all, I only look at the scores from all different Review Sites, but not always.
I simply don't want to risk either getting spoilered, or having my own opinion clouded by the opinion of the reviewer.

I'm actually not totally for this RE2 remake. There's some issues that I have with it that just upset me. I think the RE1 remake on GameCube did a much better job of remaking the first game. I wished they followed the same route with RE2 on PS4.

The original Resident Evil 2 was a survival horror masterpiece so my expectations were incredibly high for this game. I'm happy to say that it not only delivered but exceeded my expectations. Survival Horror is back and It's a good time to be a Resident Evil fan. Another great review, Joe! 👍

Resident Evil 2 Remake's producer stated that Capcom will remake Resident Evil 3 if fans demand it. RE2 Remake is getting good reviews and sold 3 million units. There's no question a Resident Evil 3 remake would be in production as we speak.

Finally started playing this game recently. This is my first experience with the RE series and omg I’m blown away with this game. The game looks and sounds phenomenal. I can understand the frustration with some remakes but from my perspective even though I’ve never played the OG game, I can tell that this is truly the definitive way to play the game. The game relies on atmosphere, something that some survival-horror games lack and instead rely on gimmicky jump scares. The incredibly eerie atmosphere is one of the most ominous and and horrifying experiences I’ve had in a game. This is the perfect way to spark interest in a franchise. Can’t wait to finish this and then play some of the other games in the series

Dude I grew up with resident evil 2 almost exclusively for most my childhood and idk where we got it from but it was the only game I had really and even tho the graphics and vocals were goofy sometimes but just how well it was executed the atmosphere and story were confusing later on but the ogs were slow grind confusing beat you down challenging to the point were id be pissed and when I made progress it kept me wanting more and watching it being twisted into the mindless action badass Rambo mf I like the realism the fact that if you save the game at a point and you might not have enough ammo or whatever needed to just barely survive the game left that up too you if you don't

I know this comment is 2 years old but incase you see this or anyone in the same boat as you sees this: The originals still hold up and I'd recommend emulating them so you can enjoy them as well. Yes it has tank controls but you will quickly pick them up. All the original Resident Evil games are worth playing, even RE2 if you've finished the remake. The original is different enough to warrant a playthrough. That's not even mentioning Resident Evil 4 which is hands down one of the best games ever made.

The amount of times Angry Joe said Modern Gamers might not like this shows a genuine problem with modern game design. The point of a videogame is to challenge the players skills in certain categories. Resident Evil is challenging the players inventory management, keeping track of where they are, their mechanical ability to aim and more importantly keeping their cool in a tight situation. In my opinion the fact that Angry Joe had to mention "Modern gamers might not like this" 3-5 times just shows how badly videogames have descended to instant gratification instead of challenging yet rewarding gameplay.
True and they even moved the og mechanics to the "hardcore" mode lol I imagine if hardcore was in the "normal" mode people would be bitching amd moaning hard.
You don't even get instant gratification from modern games. You get it after a fucking month long grindfest. And online gaming is even worse. YOU NEED TO PAY ON SOMETHING YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR. IF I WANTED TO DO THAT I WOULD GO PLAY MONOPOLY.

I know I’m late to the party but damn this game is amazing. I love how it kept the survival mechanics from the original and making your inventory space matter. Plus realizing you can’t kill every enemy and doing your best to evade or run. Great job, Capcom!

We are still waiting for square to come back like this ,with the final Fantasy 7 remake hopefully. Square soft and Capcom were my favorite game developers for the longest time. Then the ps3 and 360 generation came a long ,then they weren't so great in my eyes.

TalFx uh I don’t think you actually even played Dark Souls 1 then... because that shit def did have backtracking. Any game with an interconnected world like that or metroidvania level-design is gonna have backtracking... But honestly that’s why I loved it so much. It makes the world much more memorable imo and I love getting familiar with a location and give it more weight. I hate one off locations in games where you just walk through it once never to return, like I can just turn my brain off bec there’s no reason to remember the layout.
Michael Flynn Uncharted is a modern game that also has back tracking didn't see anyone complain about that in Uncharted.
I like it I found it cleaver cause it made you strategize with the map the best way to go best ways to avoid zombies or hazards and you get to know the area well and it's a good way to get the most out of the area you are in. People that complain are the ones that want the game to tell you where to go and that's not fun
I just bought this last month on ps4 store and this is my second time playing through it. First off I want to say I love your guys channel. You guys and AVGN are my favorites on here. I battle with fibromyalgia and I hurt all the time but when I watch your guys reviews you guys always make me laugh so I just want to thank you for that. Laughing helps with my pain. I grew up with the old NES. Got it for Christmas of 88 from my grandparents. I went on to get the super nes in 93 then Sega in 95. Finally I got the N64 when I was 15. I rented this game on the N64 one time and cause of the tank controls I could not play it. I have Amway loved the resident evil movies and soundtracks. I got my first playstation the ps3 from my aunt in 2016. Then my ps4 in July for my thirty seventh birthday. The first resident evil game I ever played was number six on the ps3 and I personally loved it. So when I got the ps4 used I knew the second game was a game I wanted. Now I admit cause I suck at playing games the first time leon story took me 15 hours to best. Claire on the other ha d only took nine. Leon story did not scary me. But Claire's did. It was Mr. X. I could not hide from him. He entered where ever I went. So many times it left me jumping at different times. I loved it. I love horror games. I play Friday the 13th as well. I even record my game play and post it on my page. These games are amazing and I would tell anyone who is a fan of horror and zombies to to y this game. I can see why it is a classic. Going to work on all the others which I own all the regular games on both systems. So I can't wait for the third game. Of course I have to wait to get it when it on sale for cheaper. My main game for next year is the last of us part two which I already had prebought. So I just want to say thank you for making such great video. Keep up the good work bros

or R + G + B, since it gives you dmg resistance and immunity to poison for a short time in addition to full heal, really helpful for boss fights, especially on HC where pretty much every attack puts you on danger instantly

Anyone else think Resident Evil 8 should focus on this direction more? RE7 was good.... but this RE2 remake is way scarier and more inline with what Resident Evil is famed for.... in my opinion.

@@MrLachapell I mean, an RE 4 remake with the RE engine would be cool, but it wouldn't fit with the style of gameplay considering it was an action game rather than survival. Let's not forget that we want RE to move away from gameplay like RE 4 and back to what made RE good. We don't need to pick up the trend RE 4 started, again.
I think RE7 was finding what works with their new tech, their knew RE engine, new age horror design in general. They have obviously found what works and what doesn't at this point. RE2 remake really shows that. As long as they learn a little from this game, and don't forget what made it good. It will be really hard to fuck it up going forward.

Thats the beauty of classic RE games. You can waste 15 hours on your fist playthrough then speedrun it in 1 hour. Similar case happens with Dark Souls. The time spent on your first playthrough of these games is just in your head.
My first playthrough of this game on Leon A was about 7 hours and some change. By my 3rd playthrough I shaved that down to about an hour and 30 minutes.
all that puzzle solving and lore reading takes a long time.

Its insane to think of its a "remake". They made it from scratch and just smashes any other game in the genre. Really didnt expect this from Capcom, i was expecting a bad pc port and instead they have raised the bar for all else to follow.

@@Avean Shadow of the Colossus was really good. There aren't that many true remakes I think. Lots of revisions (Doom, Tomb Raider, etc) and remasters but I cant think of many ground up remakes.
Considering that RE2 came out when Survival Horror is all but dead(AGAIN) it's basically a second coming. The last best contender was The Evil Within 2 which was decent but still had flaws.
RE Engine is greatly optimized for PC. Hell, I can run this game with my toaster and got a solid 60 fps.
If you're playing this again (or for the first time) in 2022 try it with a good headset, the spacial audio will make you sh*t bricks!

I personally give this game a 10/10. The replay value itself gives it this rating. If a game has me coming back for more even after I beat it 2 times it deserves the title Masterpiece.

The only thing lazy about this game is the not so well connected A and B scenarios. The rest of it is just FUN.

Also, Claire cannot ever fight Mr. X’s Super Tyrant form nor the alligator, and Leon can never fight G4 in either of his playthroughs, unlike the original. Plus, in seems that alternate versions of how certain subplots play out (like Ada Wong’s apparent deaths) are not being brought to life, even if it creates certain holes in the narrative.
For me, the other issue is how the RE2 Remake takes a few solid leaps forward with improving some of the original’s enemies/bosses, while also taking a couple of steps back by deleting some of the old ones (namely the crows, spiders, moths, I think the poisonous Ivy variants too, etc.). RE1 Remake, however, retained every single monster from its predecessor, on top of drastically improving certain enemies and bosses, plus adding new monsters. In that particular department, the RE2 Remake is not as good as RE1 Remake IMO.
Regarding the music, I’ll have to play through the whole game myself to make a call. Hear I certain iconic songs from the original are excluded and not even given a modernized replacement in the remake’s score, so your only chance of them even being in the game is via the music swap option. Even then, it is not quite or same as having some iconic tracks being faithfully updated beat-for-beat like what RE1 Remake did for its predecessor or even Darkside Chronicles did to some of the original RE2’s music.
Also i just arrived at NEST on a speed run and noticed an item box next to the tram... why is it there? There is box next to the main desk. I think they ran out of time to actually make the lab/B scenario they wanted and forgot to remove it.

I know this is an older video, but screw it. I’m throwing in my two cents.
The quickest way I would explain why early RE’s backtracking works is because the mansion/station/outpost are suppose to be mazes, both from a game-design and in-universe perspective. There would be no suspense in leaving powerful enemies like hunters, crimson heads, or lickers alive if you always knew there was never a need to revisit a room with one in it. There’s a real sense of dread in knowing a threat is there, but not knowing if it can be avoided forever. I suppose it’s even playing on the fight or flight instinct.
Capcom puts out gold, when its not a fighting game...

- RE2 remake: absolute masterpiece, the best one no question, every bit is enjoyable
- RE4: it's just really enjoyable too
- RE7
- RE1 remake: really great atmosphere although I prefer the 3rd or 1st person view rather than the statics
- RE8 Village: it's just ok. A bit meh imo

Dino Crisis definety. in RE I didtn write down that much, but Dino was more hardcore even with storage boxes which were unique. So no teleportation to another box :)

Try to WALK up until it aggroes, until it goes for you, then you run diagonally past it, cut the corner. Looking for honest opinion so "extreme fanboys" dont reply. Is a second playthrough worth it? I played the original (Leon only), played this remake(Leon and started Claire). Here's my problem, I play games to discover everything I can and rarely, ultra rarely, can enjoy a second playthrough unless a lot of time has passed. Claire seems just like Leon's run and if the only difference is a couple of extra puzzles and some different cutscenes, it's not worth it. I can make an 8 to 9 hour game last far longer exploring everything so a second playthrough is boring to me.
This is next on my "to play" list. I remember playing it on Dreamcast and loved it!

It sure is. It feels like Resident Evil 4 combined with Resident Evil 2. It feels like Capcom upgrade Resident Evil 4’s controls while staying true to the original gameplay. Not only do we have better movement and aiming but we also have that classic Resident Evil gameplay where every bullet counts. This is one of the best games I’ve played recently. Finally no annoying Battle Royale modes, no crazy micro transactions and no pay to win mechanics! This is how you make a video game. EA take notes.

This game has consumed me. I haven’t even played anything else since getting it. I liked 7. But this one has a lot more tension and dread. Legit threats that are always lurking. And the tyrant was terrifying when you aren’t used to him at first. He’s always around... I would be searching.. just to be stopped in my tracks because he’s stomping around.. and you can’t decipher where he might be. You cant even trust it when it goes quiet. I thought I was safe and he jack bakers through a wall and I had actual shit in my pants... or youll be running from another threat just to turn a corner and run straight into him.. It is a lot of fun. And I still haven’t got to the second half yet . Well worth the buy.

I seriously struggled with this game at first but it still became one of my favorite games ever. What pissed me off the most were the G mutants in the sewers, if you have no ammo to kill them you literally miss like 30% of the loot because you can't go back to the RPD. Bosses only take damage from weak points which makes no sense, you can't kill William with 10 fire grenades but you can kill him with 30 pistol bullets?
I do have really high hopes for RE4 after this and RE3 tho.
