Demolition of the Old Fairfax High School in Fairfax, Virginia.
The original building opened to students in 1935, and will be preserved. The additions made since then are being demolished. In 1972 the campus was sold to George Mason University. In 1983 it was sold again, and became Pope Paul VI Catholic High School. In 2020 that school moved to a new location, and the campus was sold to a developer.
Produced by John Z Wetmore, producer of "Perils For Pedestrians".
What a cool video I enjoy watching your videos keep making great videos I like your videos a lot keep making great videos I like your videos keep making great videos
I've always been interested in demolition, but couldn't do it as a job due to a disability. I really enjoy watching these videos that excuvator is a amazing bit of kit, the fact they can cut through metal beams like a hot knife going through butter is incredible. Thanks for sharing these videos. Watching from the UK
Thank you for making detailed descriptions.
Its a pity your videos interrupt all the adds
Nice demo John. Is good that the old bit of the building is being saved. Just think of all the people that have walked through them doors and graduated since the opening of the school.
Good video John. Quite a few other uploaders would do well from watching and learning on how to film from you. Keep up the good work.
Are they spraying water to keep the asbestos down?
The water is to control dust in general. Asbestos remediation should be completed before they bring in the excavators.
@@JohnZWetmore oh ok
John, I think you are wrong in your details. Looks like the original building IS being demolished.
When I was filming, they were working their way carefully around the original (central) portion of the building. The developer plans showed that part being maintained in their new development. However, I have not been back there this week to confirm that the original part is still standing.
What are they building here now?
It is going to be a mixed use development, including a large number of townhouses.
Oh ok
Nice demo
why is the demo dude so slow . hes picking up 1 thing at a time. is he separating everything or something? maybe its just union labor moves at a certain speed
They keep the metal separate from the brick separate from the other debris. They get trucked off to three different places for recycling or disposal.
@@JohnZWetmore oh ok makes sense
Warum werden solche schönen Gebäude abgerissen ?
Y r they demolishing an historical high school? That’s just stupid
They are saving the original building, but destroying the extensions built in the 70s if you read the description

@@xavierdomenico also they shouldn’t destroy the extensions and y is that?
@@bigsebby3799 To make room for townhouses and converting the high school into a shopping center/community center I think
