Excellent dad skills. Your patience with Kenny was awesome!!😊 Thank you so much for this video; I combed UA-cam and the internet trying to find anyone who could explain to me the difference of the cut. I sure appreciate it!!
Mom here: have your son wear "action shoes" around machinery. (Not judging you/him- he probably grabbed the first shoes he found when you asked him to come help and drive the mower for the video. My kids would attempt to run a gauntlet with flip-flops on! Edited to add: Great video! Seeing the mulching kit installed on the deck really helped me understand how it works.
I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.
I have a John Deere D110 I just bought, definitely going to get a mulch kit after seeing your video, I have pine needles I need mulched up, I have thirteen huge pine trees and it's a constant battle with the pine needles and pine cones.
Thanks Ken I was curious about the Deere mulching kit versus aftermarket which would be quite a bit less expensive. Your video helped me make my decision.
Dude I've been mowing long enough, and what my dad ALWAYS taught me was weather your using the bagger or Mulching use HALF THE DECK. May burn a little more gas but you can get them all picked up, if your using a Bagger. and if you mulch still use half the deck and just watch the front if leaves start ecumenicate back up and make a few more passes dose MUCH BETTER that way. Just a helpful hint
Good video nice Dad skills please follow safety advice required is boots and or hard sole shoes and gloves and eye protection you never know what you’re going to hit or if a rock will jettison on your body and your feet or your body or eyes otherwise good job on your evaluation
this was very helpful. I'm choosing between the s240 with a plug vs the x350 which comes with $300 off the mulch kit and it's obvious that mulch kit does a superior job. thanks for posting this!!
@@DONALD1951it isn't worth it imo they share almost everything but the frame and a few other items. Same deck, engine, and transmission, seat. X series steers a bit better and has a more robust frame.
I’m surprise people are complaining about him not wearing shoes which I think it would be impossible for his foot to get under that deck with the deck running. I would think more people would complain that he’s not wearing hearing protection.
My only complaint is the improper use of the beer holder. Since the mower is running smoothly, they must have topped off the gas tank and the oil fill plug and the kid even used the choke to prime the carburetor, but they forgot to check the beer holder. Always keep the beer holder filled with the proper fluid for optimal performance and to ensure the driver properly primed.
I have often thought that somehow the front of the blade cover should be open to scoop up the leaves. The mowers push most of the leaves out front and it is difficult to get them to where the blades are.
A bit disappointed in that you gave the mulching plug just that one, very short try and immediately went on to the kit which included the under-deck components. I'd like to have seen more of a test with just the plug. That said, wouldn't the mulching have gone even better with the deck fully down? It looked to me your son was mulching with the deck a couple inches off the surface, allowing leaves and grass to escape out rom under the deck.
@@stephenhicks826 Yeah, someone might really get hurt sitting on top of a lawn tractor with covered blades. He might lose a foot when he turns off the key and the tractor shuts down!! Geez.
@@janemariehoward LOL. I saw the safety police comments are on the top of the list. It's a brave new world out there, ain't it Jane. You don’t have the same control of the pedals with flip flops. Drive your car with flip flops and you will see. But no need for rude comments. Also need hearing protection.
John Deere manual states only people over 16 should use their mowers----this young 13 year old is not wearing leather shoes for protection. pray for him !
I just looked it up the legal age to drive a lawnmower is 16. The legal age to drive a farm tractor is 14. It also says that a 16-year-old should be supervised on the lawnmower but they can drive a car unsupervised. Seems like odd laws to me.

Very nice the kid is learning! Can’t wait til my daughter is old enough to do this.
You push most of the leaves forward. The young man is learning 👍

I think the X350 is a much better tractor then the s240. From what I have read the s240 is the big box Deere with a better engine and a few upgrades.
Kerryn Reding did you choose one? Which one? How do you like it?
Thanks
Ken Dee yes but $1000 more. Worth that?

@@DONALD1951 Every much worth it , The X series JD tractors lot better than Box store JDs
Don't forget to raise the deck before going across anything you're not cutting young man, it'll save you alot of money. Great job keep learning!
My only question is why was this recorded in 240p resolution?
Show how you put the spring loaded steel plate on the first kit. I can't figure out how the springs go
I know he's riding not walking but a kid doing that with flip flop type shoes on?
Thank you for the video. I appreciate it.

It's not about feet under the deck , it's about his foot slipping off the pedals from a lack of a solid grip.

Snowflakes will be snowflakes!
Mow tf the way you want to mow! Fk these trolls!
@AmyJo You go, Gram! I'm sure you're a young one at that! 👍🏻
He has a mulching tractor for leaves because I see no lawn on the property!
The lawn is gone, all I see is dirt and leaves 🤣😂
LOL little home skillet almost mowed the shed ramps
Lmfao hahahaha
I have the plug and it takes 4 or more passes to grind the leaves.
Ken How wide is your shed opening? Thanks
Wow that turns on a dime
Four wheel steering
when you bought the mulching kit, did you ask the guy if he thought it worked better than a mulching plug?
Thx, this helped me!
Doesn’t the john deere come with mulching blades?
They come with reg. blades which are good enough, at least that was my experience with a 50 in.Cub Cadet and a Sears 42 in.
The first pass was worthless. Most of that pile of leaves ended up in front of the mower deck and/or on top of it.
I have often thought that somehow the front of the blade cover should be open to scoop up the leaves. The mowers push most of the leaves out front and it is difficult to get them to where the blades are.

Owner Needs To Plant some Grass FIRST, Churning nothing but dust, make a good roto tiller.
Thanks!
probably not a great idea for your son to ever wear no foot protection when mowing.
why?
bruh, how could I hurt myself. OO yeah, my feet will get stuck under the deck that turns off ate4r I get off the mower.
Never, ever cut your grass in flip flops!
An accident waiting to happen, flip flops on a riding lawn tractor.
Yeh, I can't believe how stupid some parents are!
