I really respect something you stated. You were talking about drawing the leaf shapes. You acknowledged a leaf you like using, but, accepted that it was not 'your' shape. Others make it and not something you alone are the creator of it. I turn away from artists very quickly when they claim they invented, created, or are the origin of elements. Recently, I heard someone say that painted open circle was their patented creation. Wow, how old they must be. (lol) Thank you for your grace and honesty.
23:20 I started using a sock instead of a sweat band in place of my watercolor towel. I had so many singleton socks skulking around from my now-adult kids, It was easy to find one with a still-nice clean cotton cuff, trim the foot part off, and use the sock cuff as a wristlet.
I recently cut up an old t-shirt that had gotten too big and had a few little holes in it from where I had rubbed against the edge of the plywood top of my work table. I was using way too many paper towels and needed to try something else. Really like the t-shirt because it had been washed soooo many times and it's nice and soft and absorbent (bonus that it's grey). My little travel blotter I made has those water beads you can buy for flower arranging. I swapped the small cuts out for the usual paper towels on that too. I'm loving it.
20:56 Goldfinger looks great to gild sketchbook pages! Thanks for showing that. Loved your panting, your chat and your rooster spunds in the background. If you had to choose between this set and the Kuretake, which one would you choose?
I loved this piece and the background is very pretty with the new paints. 🎨 I also gravitate towards painting and drawing leaves. The more you added the more interesting the piece became. It turned out lovely and the paints are very nice! I enjoyed hearing about your daily soup ritual and the broccoli soup sounded delicious. 🥣 How about a cookbook Diane with the ingredients printed over a painting of a primary ingredient like an herb!🌿 💕📕This is the part of your videos that I enjoy about you while you so effortlessly guide us through a new painting adventure. You’re a jewel Diane! 🎨💕👍❤️👏
Thank you so much Sharon! 😀 The broccoli soup was better than some people might imagine - creamy and delicious, I was surprised! Yes, an arty cookbook would be a great idea! Thanks for the idea and I’m so glad you enjoy the channel!
What a nice cheery, bright coloured piece of art. I love all you do. That being said, this one is in the top favourites. Added note: 🥦 soup is great. I tend to make it come fall/winter.
Sorry to hear that- I’m sure we have some video of him. I’ll have a word with Tamsin. There might already be something on our sister channel @fromthegarden.
I enjoyed your video very much. I was viewing today from my bed getting over a cold you've given me a lot of inspiration for when I feel better.. I also enjoyed the sounds of nature the birds the cock a doodle doo. Thank you so much for making my day so pleasant
Thank you for helping me get the courage to learn and the ability to create something I’m proud of. Too much practicing is a discouragement if I have nothing to show for it. Already I’ve made greeting cards and if that’s all I ever do, then I’m good with that. Love the rooster! 😀
You can do it Linda! In fact you already are! Nothing wrong with specialising in cards, some people can’t paint cards, they are one of the best kinds of art, always welcome as gifts. I’ll give Gabriel a kiss from you!
I love the background of this painting...so vibrant and then the addition of the black leaves really made it pop! As always, the end result is nothing short of magnificent. I’m also now inspired to make better use of my Inktense pencils which have been shoved in the back of a drawer for too long! Thanks Diane, for another masterclass in “pick up a brush and see what happens”. Hope you enjoyed your soup too 😁🙏
Hi Diane! Thank you for being my good friend! You make me feel like you are right here with me listening and talking and just being a fantastic artist and friend! I love this, and also what you wrote in the newsletter. Coincidentally, we just watched the movie "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", again, and I love the quote from the movie you put in the newsletter. Also, the subject you addressed regarding how important it is the create and not feel guilty about it..." ask yourself whether any of those other things you "should" be doing would create anything more beautiful or more loving." I love that!!! ❤❤❤
Hi Jeanie and thanks so much for your kind words! That’s a funny coincidence isn’t it! So glad you enjoyed the newsletter and thanks so much for all your support, it’s very much appreciated X
While I was watching this video my husband went to get the mail. I was happy to get my first set of Kuretake paints! I am so excited to use them. Also, I made a picture with my Derwent Inktense pencils like you did the other day. It's so much fun to apply the water and see the colors come alive. Thanks so much for your videos. I am learning a lot!!!
I've recently purchased a tin of derwent inktense ink pencils. I've swatched them all out and really love them when they are used like a watercolour with the paintbrush. It's my birthday so I've had a bundle of art supplies and currently swatching everything so I have a systematic record of the colour and as you said I'm getting used to the medium, how it moves, how much water I need etc. I'm looking forward to finishing swatching and moving onto playtime with all these new goodies. I haven't yet played around in full with the inktense but I've already planned out using it in different ways with watercolour paints, trying dipping the pencil in water first and seeing what sort of line it produces, placing it on wet paper and seeing how much the line difuses, using it as my mark making item for drawing out a design (rather than graphite pencil) and painting in between and seeing how it mixes, plus the colour on colour play you suggested. Can't wait.
This is so lovely, and it is still obviously your work and style! Love the little houses, sheep and chickens and birds, yet this is great and versatile for project ideas. Hahn you!
Love the freedom of this painting. I always neglect the swatching of new palettes, but do need to get busy with that. Thanks for another great video/lesson.
The painting is beautiful and a delight to my eyes. I was so disappointed that this pretty bronze powder could not be shipped to the US from Jackson's Art in the UK! I bought another brand and discovered it was easy to make a mess with the powder so I don't use it much. I need to try again and conquer the fine granules!
I enjoyed watching your composition develop. I am not very familiar with inktense. That was very interesting to watch you test some of the colors on top of your swatches.
The Derwent inktense pencils ARE described by Derwent as water colour pencils Diane, they just say they are intense and work LIKE ink, but definitely water colour pencils.
I believe you are correct Pauline. Thanks for mentioning this - I‘ve written to Derwent asking them for more details on what exactly the substance is. They are a bit quiet on that on their website.
Love the pencil work over the background. And yes, the more delicate black leaves in the center. Your process always amazes me right down to the last few brush strokes. ❤
that's so wonderful! I'm going to try on a smaller scale with less elements as I tire easily but that ok. Hoping it will just look cute but small LOL. thanks much for sharing this one, Diane
You can do it! One of the good things about Gansai Tambi is that you can take it in stages. There is no pressure to finish a painting in one go. So even if you did one fairly large (say half the size of mine) you can stop and start as energy allows. On Amazon, some vendors offer coupons on certain items. You just click to redeem it and the discount shows up when you check out. Love this background, Diane!
I adore the cheerful colours that you used . With the weather as it is ,it certainly helped. My mother of 91 and I really enjoy your videos. Thank you Diane . ❤
Thanks for the inspo! I haven't been painting as much these past few weeks since I've not been feeling well but will have to play with some colors like this. Really pretty! Love your background noises also. 🐔🐓🐦🐦🐦🐦🐱🐈
I love this paint! These are really vibrant and cheerfull colors! I will try to do it with my kerotakee ones! Thanks for al the indications and chat while making it!!!!!
Wow! I always thought those "Fish knifes" were just fancy butter knives! I guess that is what I get for setting up house from yard sales. lol. I learn something new every day!😇
"Knives"! Oops. Also, nice set of paints! This set is 21% off right now on Amazon US, so from $32 down to $26, then there is a 30% off coupon if you check a box under the price making it about $18. The coupon limits the special price to one per customer. On the background, it looks like this paint has more flow or movement than the regular Kuretake. Do you think so? ...or is it my imagination?
That’s so funny!! Mine all came second-hand too. Our family wasn’t posh enough to have such things! You know that’s a thing for me, I find it hard with all the possessions we all have - when I was a kid we only had one pair of scissors in the house and I wasn’t allowed to touch them!
And about the paint, yes, I felt it flowed really well and made really nice blends really easily. And it was only Meeden paper I was using, so the comparison is fair, same paper as always with Kuretake. And thanks for that clarification about the coupon being limited to one per customer - now I understand!!!
This was fun! And a beautiful painting at the end! It’s a great relaxing way to create. I “warm up” painting like this in a sketchbook before I go to work on commissions. And frankly I have so much more fun when I can paint intuitively like this! I bought a set of the Derwent inktense pencils about 6 months ago and I have used them in every painting since- aren’t they fun?!! I love them! Thank you for your videos- you inspire me! I know a lot of work goes into filming and editing - I appreciate you doing this! I just noticed I’m 4 weeks late to this video, how did it get past me unnoticed?!
How I loved spending a rainy Sunday morning chat time with you learning an abstract way to free my inhibitions. I can’t wait to try this technique out on my own today. I also had a glimpse of another lesson where you recommended a book with the word soul in the title… But then I lost it! Can you please give me the title again and point me to the lesson where you introduced that book. So frustrated that I lost it before I could learn about it. You are the best, Diane! I feel I have a friend in France on a farm who paints! How lucky is that?
Hi Susan and thanks so much for your kind words - and here is the link to the book I think you mean: amzn.to/3yAatwh Soul Color by Emma Burleigh. Let me know if that’s not the right one.
Lovely painting and so nice to hang out with you today. Your chatting is so soothing. :-) I love hearing Gabriel in the background - he is quite vocal. I'm having a lazy day today and I'm still in my pajamas after 10:00am!
In US, coupons are generally issued by the manufacturer in order to gain traction in the market. They come in news ads or online scan codes or rebates (which is a hassle). Some coupons offer for example 10% off your purchase for that item.
I remember coupons when I was a young woman, which we used to get in the newspaper or magazine, and cut them out and take them to the shop to get a reduction on a price. The idea of electronic coupons which are just written underneath the price on Amazon is strange to me!
Hi Diane, This is so beautiful! I love it!! You have been incredible for inspiration! I’ve tried so many new things since finding your channel. Thank you for all you do!! ❤
Loved this painting as I enjoy all your demos. I'm just starting out in watercolours and your videos have helped me immensely. Thankyou Julie Darwin NT Australia
As much as I enjoyed watching you create your swatches, I very much enjoyed your sound track, the lovely birds (which I never here in Tuscany--a bit alarming) and the obstreperous rooster😂
I haven't ever thought of trying watercolors; I've always thought it too difficult a medium. You popped up on UA-cam and I love what you created. I have a watercolor set and will give ut a try. Thank you so much for the inspiration. I've subscribed.❤
You are so welcome Elena and I hope you enjoyed trying your watercolors and continue with them. They needn’t be difficult - nowadays there are so many ways to use them creatively they are a real joy to use! Happy painting!
I enjoyed very much this painting. I could be wrong but these paints could be an alternative for those who find Kuretake too expensive. Maybe they are not the same but they to be good. I too am a soup lover. I like it with French baguettes a little toasted.❤
Hi Shirley, yes, they are very similar to Kuretake, I would say they are an imitation and they seem as good to me. Out of stock at the moment on Amazon though x
Thanks for all your wonderful videos Diane! My experience with the aqua bronze powder is that it does need a fixative because when dry it will rub off a little.🍀💖
I think if you make sure the powder is well mixed with water that rubbing off will be much less. Mine looks good so far. But I can see that if I hadn’t mixed it really well it might have dusted off partially. Fixative is a good idea.

Love the rooster crowing, and with the birds singing, its almost like he's letting them know he's the boss around here!!!😊
Your painting is beautiful. All the talk about soup has my taste buds tingling. I am a huge soup person.😄
Me too!!
I really respect something you stated. You were talking about drawing the leaf shapes. You acknowledged a leaf you like using, but, accepted that it was not 'your' shape. Thanks Kathy, it amazes me what some artists say. Nothing new under the sun is my motto!
Listening to the rooster crowing in the background is so delightful! The perfect accompaniment. :)
23:20 I started using a sock instead of a sweat band in place of my watercolor towel. I had so many singleton socks skulking around from my now-adult kids, It was easy to find one with a still-nice clean cotton cuff, trim the foot part off, and use the sock cuff as a wristlet.

I love this painting. I've been looking for something the colors are bright and beautiful.
I'm glad you like it!!!
Love your little treasure box and your rejuvenation of it is brilliant. I love little finds like that. 🖌
Thanks so much! 😊
Your rooster is trying to get into the game 😂😂😂
That's Gabriel...
Yes very cute....he wants to be a Star!
20:56 Goldfinger looks great to gild sketchbook pages! Thanks for showing that. Loved your panting, your chat and your rooster spunds in the background. If you had to choose between this set and the Kuretake, which one would you choose?
Probably the Kuretake but just because it is a bigger set with more colours.
I have found this entire painting process and mindset fascinating. Thank you so much for empowering those such as myself to “simply have a go”. ❤
So glad you are ‘having a go’ Anita!!! Have fun!❤️
I loved this piece and the background is very pretty with the new paints. 🎨 I also gravitate towards painting and drawing leaves. The more you added the more interesting the piece became. I loved watching you apply the beautiful colors!
My husband asked if it was our neighborhood rooster. 😂 thank you for the video! I really enjoyed your humor! And I love how your work came out!
Awesome! Thank you!
I love your rooster. I’m not allowed to have one anymore because of the people I live with 😢. I’d love to see him. Great video thanks
Sorry to hear that- I’m sure we have some video of him. I’ll have a word with Tamsin. There might already be something on our sister channel @fromthegarden.
He is beautiful. White and black...
Your eye for design is a wonderful gift. Thank you for sharing it!

Your sweet rooster just brings a smile to my face😊
I enjoyed your video very much. I was viewing today from my bed getting over a cold you've given me a lot of inspiration for when I feel better.. I also enjoyed the sounds of nature the birds the cock a doodle doo. Thank you so much for making my day so pleasant
@dianeantone “a cold you’ve given me”. How did you give her a cold? (I know, punctuation). Changes the meaning 😂
Thank you for helping me get the courage to learn and the ability to create something I’m proud of. Too much practicing is a discouragement if I have nothing to show for it. Already I’ve made greeting cards and if that’s all I ever do, then I’m good with that. Love the rooster! 😀

I’m thinking of having a cushion made using this painting as the design. What do you think?
👍 Most definitely ....do it. 😁🙏
, that reminds a lot of him. I will try that sky technique!
Great exploratory video. Love your commentary too.
Thank you kindly Maryanne, I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
This background is really nice with the black leaves. It looked like you were having fun and that is all that matters 🙂 Blessings
I was, and you will too!

Thanks for watching!

It is, isn’t it!!!! I was genuinely thrilled to see those colours come alive. I can’t wait to do another landscape like that!
I've recently purchased a tin of derwent inktense ink pencils. I've swatched them all out and really love them when they are used like a watercolour with the paintbrush. Love the freedom of this painting. I always neglect the swatching of new palettes, but do need to get busy with that. Thanks for another great video/lesson.
It’s just a good idea to know what all those dark looking pans actually contain!
Yes, it would be easy to make a mess! Did you get the Pebeo one?
I love what you have done here. It is so liberating to be encouraged to experiment with you.
Love, love, love the background! It looks like a big fireball! These paints are so vibrant! Thanks Diane 😊❤
So glad - it was quite hard to paint over it really as it did come out well! These paints are very interesting, and for $20!?!?!?
I love watching you and listening to your background music !!!
Those paints are brilliant.
Love that painting.
I really love your painting, you make it so easy to follow. I also love the sounds of the birds and rooster in the background, so relaxing🥰🤗
Thank you so much 😀
Thank you, this was very pleasant and relaxing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I enjoyed watching your composition develop. I am not very familiar with inktense. That was very interesting to watch you test some of the colors on top of your swatches.
Thank you very much! Yes, interesting to me too!
That last black branch of leaves was just what yr painting needed!! Excellent! Wonderful background colors and movement as well….love it!❤
The Derwent inktense pencils ARE described by Derwent as water colour pencils Diane, they just say they are intense and work LIKE ink, but definitely water colour pencils.
It does take a while sometimes to “warm up” into the painting though!
The painting turned out very nice. Hello Gabriel so nice to hear you I do enjoy hearing you in the background.
Thanks so much 😊 Gabriel has got his voice back after the episode with the dog… sigh!
that's so wonderful!
I’m going to do some really small ones soon too, as the little ones make great gift cards and are a lot of fun - even bookmarks work like this don’t they!
On Amazon, some vendors offer coupons on certain items. You just click to redeem it and the discount shows up when you check out. Love this background, Diane!
I’m seeing this coupon idea more and more. I get it now I realise it limits the number to one per person, makes sense now!
So beautiful!! Thank you!
@@DianeAntoneStudio❤
Love my set of your brushes.
I’m so glad! I think the cats tongue was a real asset doing that background loosely like that.
I like the way the pans are arranged according to color families.
The background looked like a fiery sky. I loved it so much! The mark making on top was fun too
Putting positive energy into the world! Certainly something we all need more of these days! Thanks, Diane, this is beautiful!
You are so welcome! Trying to look on the bright side!
Lovely cheerful colors!
Beautiful background!
Thanks so much 😊
very pretty! reminds me of the end of a sunset here after bushfires. Glad you mentioned your brushes before I bought others
That’s great, thanks so much!
Love the fire colors, this is very beautiful ❣️
Thank you so much!
This is quite, quite pretty. The small spray of leaves finished it off beautifully. Thank you so much.
You’re welcome 😊 it was fun!
Background is so much fun! Thank you so much!
You are so welcome! It was interesting to do!
I adore the cheerful colours that you used . With the weather as it is ,it certainly helped. My mother of 91 and I really enjoy your videos. Thank you Diane . ❤
Hi Gillie, so glad you and your mum are enjoying the videos! The weather has been so downcast this year, too bad!
Thank you for your reply Diane, and we look forward to watching many more. 😊
Those paints would probably work nicely if you took them out of that velvet box and put them in one of your own cute watercolor boxes!
Great idea!!
Loved the painting and greatly enjoyed the chat. One without the other would not feel right 😂Thank you
So glad!
Thanks for the inspo! I haven't been painting as much these past few weeks since I've not been feeling well but will have to play with some colors like this. Really pretty! Love your background noises also. 🐔🐓🐦🐦🐦🐦🐱🐈
It’s hard to paint when you’re under the weather, feeling sick. Hope you are getting better now, happy painting!
These bright torrid colors and warm broccoli soup should warm up your rainy cold afternoon. Gorgeous colors!
Yes they do indeed! Thanks for enjoying it!
I love this paint! These are really vibrant and cheerfull colors! I will try to do it with my kerotakee ones! Thanks for al the indications and chat while making it!!!!!
You are so welcome!
Beautiful box.
Inktense is permanent so you can layer over each dried layer. Watercolor is workable when re~wet.
Lovely, flowing and coordinated…. Deceptive in its simplicity !
Thanks for the tip!
Thanks Annette!

I love the bright background. The black leaves gave it the wow factor 😊
Yes, I didn’t want to paint over it but it was a transformation for sure!
This was fun! And a beautiful painting at the end! It’s a great relaxing way to create. I “warm up” painting like this in a sketchbook before I go to work on commissions. And frankly I have so much more fun when I can paint intuitively like this!

Lovely painting and so nice to hang out with you today. Your chatting is so soothing. :-) I love hearing Gabriel in the background - he is quite vocal. I'm having a lazy day today and I'm still in my pajamas after 10:00am!
Don’t blame you, I’m committed to the animals or else I probably wouldn’t get dressed either!
A few really nice colors in that set
It worked really well and the portrait color is a gift!
You always amaze me. Thank you.
Thank you too! Glad you enjoyed it!
Those are lovely colors!
This is beautiful! Makes me want to get my supplies and have a go. I think it's because it's so simple and doable yet beautiful.
Please do, it’s easy!
I absolutely love this! Your videos are so soothing and relaxing. I learn so much.
I'm so glad!
Love all the voices in the background ❤ the sparrows and the roster ❤
Beautifully vibrant Diane ❤
Thanks Pauline!
Lovely painting 😍 the colours are so vibrant!
Thank you so much 😀 I was really surprised at the vibrant color - even more so than Kuretake tbh.
Beautiful!

Loved this painting as I enjoy all your demos. I'm just starting out in watercolours and your videos have helped me immensely. Thankyou Julie Darwin NT Australia
Wonderful! So glad to hear from you Julie and really glad you are enjoying the videos!
As much as I enjoyed watching you create your swatches, I very much enjoyed your sound track, the lovely birds (which I never here in Tuscany--a bit alarming) and the obstreperous rooster😂
Oh thank you! Sorry to hear you don’t hear birds in Tuscany - is it too hot nowadays??
I just LOVE these colors! And what a fun painting! Thank you, Diane!
Thank you so much!
Love this, so colourful ❤
Beautiful " experiment " . Thank you so much ! Kind regards - Judi - Australia 😍🌻

I really did enjoy that to see it all come together was simply marvelous and beautiful as well Thank You 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you, Diane
They look great and a great price too.
Can't wait to try this!
Hope you like it!
Gorgeous colors, I love this❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
Love the background- gorgeous!! The dark leafs look very prey on that background.
Thanks so much! 😊
Beautiful! There looks like a bright sun in the middle
It does! I managed to keep the light in the middle for once!
Interesting. I liked the paints. Thanks for sharing
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful!!! Paints look great!!❤😂
Ohhh! So pretty 😊
Thank you! 😊
I will try them
Beautiful!❤
Thank you! 😊
