- 👋 In todays head to head comparison, we take a look at the outgoing second generation Chevrolet Colorado Z71 and compare it to the all new 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Z71! Is this the update we have been looking for!? Find out and let me know! There's also an offroad video to check out with the 2023 Colorado Z71 that we filmed to see how well this truck can do in the stock form!
It's about time for Chevrolet to upgrade the Colorado as it's been unchanged for quite some time! The exterior has a Silverado look to it in some angles and the interior is a mirror image with the infotainment and gauge cluster setup! The exterior has nice angles and features! The one downside I see for the Z71 is the front air damn. Offroading, that is something to get hit a lot, but it helps with aerodynamics on road! The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 also has built in storage in the tailgate which is a great use of space! I do wish it had more tie downs in the bed or channels to add more, but depends on what items you are hauling! The interior is very nice for the mid size class and there's a lot of tech offered which is nice!
The biggest change is the four cylinder turbo engine! Gone is the V6 and while a lot of people don't like that, this engine is just as capable! It didn't feel sluggish or underpowered, so it's a good power plant for this truck and what it's designed to do!
We also took this truck offroading so be sure to check out that separate video!
If you are looking for a mid size truck and you either offroad occasionally or just like the Colorado, it's definitely a good option and with a few mods, would be even more capable! I like that while this model doesn't have a physical button for a locking differential or even traction control, the truck basically does all of that for you depending on the mode you are in. So if you are a novice to offroading or you just don't want to engage all of that individually, this 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 basically does all of that on it's own which is nice to see! The colorado ZR2, should have a locking differential I would assume.
But overall, it's a nice comfortable truck and I would say is very impressive for a stock vehicle right off the lot!

I have a 2022 Colorado super cab and it does everything I want, I got the v/6 and like it! I would like a 2023 for the tailgate and the infotainment system! But I’m happy with my truck! I get 27.5 mpg on the highway
Glad you enjoy it!
Going to pick up a 2022 Z71 this afternoon. Gotta have that V6!
Nice!
I just recently got a 2022 Chevy Colorado z71 and i love it
I bought one of the last 22's, mainly because like the V6, and I like the styling better. I know you guys tend to be all enamored with all the latest whiz-bang technology, but honestly, I could care less about most of it. I find the 2022 (mine has the total towing package) does EVERYTHING I want, without a bunch of excess. I personally find that 2023 infotainment screen horribly tacky looking (looks like somebody glued a laptop to the dash) and am NOT impressed with having nearly every control running through it. If my 22' screen dies, the only thing I would actually lose is the radio. Everything else will operate fine without it.I also could certainly care less about being able to roll down all four windows at the same time. I don't even like the express down windows on my 22'. I'm also not a fan of the digital dash, it's fugly regardless of the configuration, and I'm not a fan of the sharp edges on the bed sides. The first time I looked at one, I thought it had been dented. I'm not saying I would NEVER buy a 23+, but I think the 2022 has a far more balanced and uncluttered look to it.
Been looking at 22 do you think the v6 is more dependable?
@@MattySOP Well, it's had a longer track record and time to work the bugs out, which they seem to have done. Also NEVER been a four cylinder fan or a turbo fan. I will avoid them until they just can't be avoided. I have also yet to drive a 4 cylinder turbo that has the torque curve I want. I want to pull a car out of the ditch and barely touch the gas pedal doing it. Telling me how much HP you have at 4-5 K in a truck does NOT impress me.
@@richardhertz8996 im also not s fan of the “new tech” in the 3rd gen .. thanks for the info
Just purchased a 2023 Colorado Z71. So far I love it! Best truck I’ve ever owned!
Glad you enjoy it!
Me too, its back at the dealer, no biggie just seems to be idleling a little rough and not kicking down, like i have cruise control on. it was fine for the first week idk. 2023 Z71 Black. 500 miles on it.
@@Sutcliffe371What ended up being the problem?
They told me it was normal but ya know what when I got the truck back from them, it was fine. I swear they must have done a reset or something lol. Its been fine ever since! 1200 miles on it now @@teasquare
2023 for the keyless ignition, sunroof, looks, interior, etc. Didn't like the idea of the 4 cylinder at first but am okay with it now. What I don't like is that I ordered a Z71 in January, it was built in February and as of July 4, still haven't received it. I ordered a second Z71 in May and it was built last week. Hope to see it soon.
It's a crazy time to order any vehicle regardless of the manufacture! But the 23 is a great update for sure!
Received second Z71 on July 5. It was delivered a week after it was built. The first one came in a week later. Hail damaged hood repair started going bad a week after the dealership received it.
@@rayyoung2785What stared going bad?
The new model is really nice & great comparison!
Glad you enjoyed this comparison!
Doing some research and while I love the look of the third gen Colorado more, I think the second gen is preferable because of the V6. Also I can’t get over how many third gen owners I’m seeing whose truck is in the shop. The last think I need is my entire instrument cluster going blank.
Lots of buyers seem to like the V6's of the past. Crazy to see the new ones in the shops. Wonder what's up with them
So is the V6 quicker then the 2.7? You mentioned 0-60 times as 6 sec for the V6 and 7sec for the 2.7. I get it, lotta variables involved but with that added torque I would think the 2.7 would be quicker??
It may not be quicker but the driving experience is really different with a turbo. Pulls much harder at lower RPM.
It's interesting because it has a lot more torque, unless I read them backwards lol.
It sure does!
@@BrosFOURRSpeedI heard the 23 is 600#s heavier
Both of them dude!
lol, gotta pick one!
This 2023 Z71 has a towing capacity of 7,700 lbs, not 4X00 lbs.
I mentioned 7700 in the actual review, not sure where I got the other number from.
2022 7,000 lb towing capacity
Are those aftermarket wheels on the 2022? If so, what kind are they?
I’m not sure! But the company that does the kit would have that answer!
my god those aftermarket fender flared on the 2nd gen are vomit worthy!
Bet that turbo won’t last 100k miles
Why do you think that?
Are the transmission's the same, gear ratios etc?
That I'm not sure about, I don't dive that deep into the specs lol
Mann top speed is not 135
What is it then?
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I didn't believe it either, but that is the number that Chevy is putting out there.
I prefer halogen tbh
Those aren’t as good to be honest.
