Ok I’m just gonna say the obvious since no one else will. There’s just a subtle “dogged tenacity” in this brother. From your ideas, to your certs to the degrees especially one like computer science and still killing on UA-cam alongside building a system that makes him being ridiculously marketably employable but yet humble about it. 😅 Josh is just simply amazing! No way else to put it.

I was laid off by a large tech company in 2015, after a 20-year career, as part of a large reduction in force. The company hired a consulting firm to prepare the affected folks (including myself) for the job search. The training that the consultants provided was very similar to this framework. I bounced back well and was able to continue in six-figure roles since then. This is all very valuable information.

This must’ve been a trend in 2015 because the exact same thing happened to me in September of 2015 after 15 years. The company I was with hired consultants right before I was cut. I couldn’t find a job so I went with the first offer which was in a totally different career. Now after 9 years as a commercial real estate asset manager for a large hedge fund, I’m having trouble getting back in tech after being laid off a month ago. Crazy

For me personally, I just try to do a good job at work. I will usually try to understand my manager's vision of exactly what they want to happen (like understand my role and why it was created/exists) and simply work toward that. This might require a lot of extra work in the beginning, but I spend the time to make sure I understand expectations and what they want, then just do my bet to execute on that, and do some extra if I can. It really depends on the role, but basically just try to do a good job, haha

What Josh is talking about is.
Focus on the things you can control and do the things that most people won’t do so you can differentiate yourself from the rest.
If you do this things consistently throughout your career you will eventually position yourself in a place where jobs and opportunities will come to you instead of you hunting for them.
Looking at it from this perspective 100% Job security is possible in the sense that you will always have opportunities coming your way.

    • @insanity4082
      @insanity4082 4 місяці тому +1

@@ariasabe Job security != marketability. Great video! I'm new to your channel. But I definitely appreciate this info. I recently was let go of my Senior QA Engineer position. But I'm wondering if IT/Cybersecurity is the right direction for me to look into making a career change. Especially with the rise of AI. Hey, thanks so much for the comment! Glad you found the channel :)
What do you think is more future proof, being a QA automation engineer or the IT field, that is now starting to include Cybersecurity?
To answer your question, in my head, QA automation is part of the IT field (so is Cybersecurity). But generally speaking, Cybersecurity will always be in demand, it's just going to evolve over time. The reason for it always being in demand is the fact that the whole premise of cybersecurity is to protect information assets from other humans, and the evolution of bad actors' tactics and techniques will continue to evolve over time. Bad actors will do whatever they can to compromise a system and this requires a lot of creativity.
QA will also be relevant and likely evolve over time, but I can't speak to it as much :D.
      hope this helps!

The idea is that Cyber is not really entry-level, so I recommend having some baseline cyber knowledge--it doesn't have to be W2/job experience, but some kind of experience will be best. (For example, having gone through Google's cybersecurity program would be good: joshmadakor.tech/google ).
There are no hard requirements for joining the course though. I have implemented a few things to help with the lack of experience, such as the internship component I mentioned in this video ( ua-cam.com/video/YkOZwrHd-aA/v-deo.htmlsi=fklhbIpPRckrpbUe ) as well as the Sec+ Anki Deck.
If you are brand-brand new, the IT course is a good bet and will get you acclimated to computing and Azure/Cloud: joshmadakor.tech/it
If you feel comfy and you are fine with the Cyber learning curve, I would check out the explanation video on the landing page if you haven’t already: joshmadakor.tech/cyber
And as for if you can get a job with just the cyber course, you definitely can, but if you are brand new to IT, I recommend applying to BOTH IT jobs AND Cyber jobs and not necessarily holding out for only Cyber Jobs. But yes you can get a job if you follow the course and implement everything and are flexible with your first job.
      Hope this helps!
