The pink of the chromaflow set are just gorgeous. I will get the 150 ser just because of those, you can’t get those by mixing other colours. These along with the prismacolor are the perfect combo.
Great review.🥰💖💚💙💜 Looking forward to when Blick has the 150 set. I'm thinking it should be soon because they are selling the individual new colors. I really don't like to order pencils from Amazon because they do not package them well at all. No protection bubble wrap or anything to protect them from flopping around in shipping.. Then you end up with broken leads in the barrel, that keep breaking when you sharpen them, or dented tins.
They were always going to sell the remaining open stock.. just release it in batches. One, it means they don't have to produce huge quantities of all 150 at once when people are buying their initial stock, two it drags out the "new release" interest over time which is simply an advertising scheme. I'm very surprised they didn't hold back the 150 set and only release the 100. All the social media drama was just that.. drama for clicks. It took over a year for the 72 to release.. another year plus for the first open stock to become available in the UK, and even longer for it to become available in the US. Same thing happened with the expanded Lightfast, and Inktense. There was a big backlash from the UK market when Derwent released the initial 24 overseas first, and they aren't making that mistake again. Everyone just needs to be patient... or pay the extra and import. I guarantee the price will drop though when the initial rush is over. What really cracked me up was how many people couldn't care less about these pencils when they first released, and how desperate everyone was when the rumors that they couldn't get them hit social media. Just goes to show people are easily manipulated, and they love to ride the hype train. I've had them since they were only 24 and greatly enjoy them, they are beautiful, easy on the hands, and fill a space in the market for a soft thin core pencil.. something no one else does. I reach for them frequently when doing small or detailed pages where my Prismas struggle to fit in small spaces and still be able to do transitions of color. As for lightfastness, every line has colors that are and are not, regardless of price. The ratings for this line are available on the derwentart dot com website and 68% of the 150 set is lightfast (blue wool rating of 6-8). Only Luminance and Lightfast have a full complement of lightfast colors, and that isn't because they are special, it's because they simply don't offer the other colors that aren't. You can curate a lightfast set from any professional brand... or even a budget brand if you are willing to do your own testing. If you are willing to combine brands you can curate a huge collection of lightfast pencils, professional artists do this as common practice.
I'm fairly sure imminent means shortly. That's why imminent danger means get out of the way, it's gonna happen soon. Thank you for the detailed review. I wanted these pencils as a replacement for my Prismas when they run out but now I'm not too sure. I might very well save my money and buy the coloursoft or pablos or even Holbein.
Your welcome. I love my holbeins and coloursoft. I like the Pablo’s too but they are a much harder pencil. I’d test a few if you can. I am not unhappy at all with these.
Thank you for such a great and informative video on these pencils. I don’t have them yet, but I want to purchase them in the future. This is such a great way for me to make my choice.
I talked to a Derwent Representative and asked her whether Derwent was going to have replacements for the 150 set and her answer was"Derwent was going to sell replacements of 75 and up" ...that was not the answer I was expecting! ....and I just asked recently not happy with there answer!
I definitely agree that this set is lacking in reds. I'd argue they don't have enough browns either. I think their orange, yellow, pink and purple colors are their greatest strengths as far as the color pallette goes. I think their greens and blues are okay, I think Prismacolor has some better ones, though, but that could just be me. They aren't a terrible range, they really aren't, so I shouldn't be complaining lol. Their grays aren't good either, but I honestly don't use grays all that often, I don't really like using them unless I'm coloring something that requires it. I prefer to layer up other colors to create shadows because I find the gray sometimes makes it look too muddy, but I definitely do see a lot of other people using that technique without issue so maybe I'm going something wrong lol. Either way, I like this review, it's really nice and I like that it's so detailed and in depth. I've been debating this set on and off since the 72 set came out, but I had other sets I wanted more at the time, so I put it off. Now, since its a full 150 color range, I might just have to put it on the list. All I have left to buy I really want is the 72 Artists set, the 100 Lightfast, this set, and then the Caran D'ache Luminance pencils, but idk if I will ever get a full set of those as they're more expensive than the Lightfast pencils and I already have been struggling to justify paying that much when I don't do much art anymore and mostly just color in coloring books. I have tried all of them open stock except for the Chromaflow, but I heard they're similar to the Coloursoft, which I like, so I'm thinking I'll like these. I really like that many people have pointed out that they hold a point better, as I have a hard time with softer pencils I've used in the past holding a point, mainly the Luminance, Prismacolor, Drawing and Coloursoft pencils. Derwent Lightfast seems to hold a good point too from the open stock ones I have.
Thank you for your lovely comment. I like this palette, and I agree with you completely. these are definitely not as soft as color soft or luminance. I feel like they hold a point better than soft pencils but they are a fast laying pigment, if that makes sense! you don’t have to go over it three times to get that initial punch of color. Which I like because I’m impatient. but I do tend to layer more than blend with these. I have not tried the light fast pencils they’re definitely harder than luminance. As for cost, this is how I look at these things. if I buy a coloring book for $35,which initially seemed outrageous to me, But then I think how many months could I get if I only colored in that book I would still get months of enjoyment out of that book years even. Even with colored pencils, so when I divide the cost by that it doesn’t matter if I’m coloring only in coloring books. this is my hobby. this is how I take care of myself and have fun. Now if you have to choose between the $35 coloring book and food for your table that’s a different discussion but as someone that bought copics when she couldn’t afford them, I saved up until I could get free shipping from carpe diem, then ordered them a few at a time. Get em all and color the heck out of them!💕💕💕😜
I just finished swatching them. I love the silky buttery feeling and the highly pigmented core. BUT.......... unfortunately they feel too thin in my hands (i am male, average sized hands)... my hands were hurting after the swatch. The barrel is 7mm wide, in contrast with other pencils (8mm Polychromos, Luminance, Lightfast).... it doesnt sound much, but the difference is HUGE... even my Castle Arts feel better in my hands... its a real shame, i love them but i still have to return them... (and by the way, my set hat 2 duplicates (Basil + Neutral Grey) and 2 colors missing (Charcoal and Obsidian Green)....
Oh no! If you really like the pencils you can use a squishy thing (grip) can’t think of the name but I know that wouldn’t work for me I’m too lazy to switch it and too cheap to buy one for each. So sorry!!
@@jazzydoodledesigns i contacted amazon (because of the 2 duplicates) and i am getting a new set. And that thing with the grip is a great idea, i will try it !

I understand completely. I will say these came well packaged from Amazon. Box packed in paper within another box

I do know that initially they weren’t going to release the last fifty open stock but since then have changed it’s frustrating when things aren’t clear
