And I was an extreme cv geek, getting one the first month of release in the USA
The crash didn't help, but the Adam bomb was the real Colecovision killer.
The Adam was very ambitious for it's time, trying too many tech innovations and too many bundle items, resulting in too many warranty issues and costs for coleco.
That whole "convert your video game console to a computer" meme of the early 80s was gladly abandoned by 1985.
I bought the Colecovision , intending to buy the Adam add-on til I saw it . It looked really cheap . Then I saw STAR RAIDERS . Then I sold my Colecovision for an ATARI 800 .
Wise choice!
My friend had one. I thought the games looked better than my Atari 2600. He had only two games I think, Smurfs and Donkey Kong but they were very good.
This was my first console and my first computer.
My mom bought the ADAM computer bundled with the Coleco console .. i remember Donkey Kong , and a couple of Atari 2600 titles that it would play .
But my favorite game was "Buck Rogers and the Planet of Zoom" it was a cassette tape game, really cool and different for back then .
Also learned BaSiC on that machine .
had a friend that owned one and it was impressive but then the speccy c64 arrived and was consigned to the loft

I used to play on my friend's machine and was impressed by the graphics compared to my Atari 2600. He didn't have many games though.

The second generation was a little bit before my time. I didn't start gaming until I received an Nes and Master System on Christmas of 1986. At the time, I barely had any experience with video ganes at all. Moving along...
I know had I started playing during the second generation, I would have been a Colecovision fan all the way. In my eyes, it represented the cream of the crop for that generation. Unfortunately, Coleco decided they wanted to force their way into the computer market. It was an unmitigated disaster. When coupled with the 1983 crash that was the end for them.
Question- Had Coleco made it, do you think it would have stood a chance against the Nes/Master System/7800?

Another great video. I remember seeing the ColecoVision and the accessories advertised in a UK catalogue but I never saw any of those TV adverts nor did I meet anyone who owned one. Do you have one in your collection?
I don't sadly, I've never managed to snag one at a decent price, despite numerous attempts.
