Just wanted to say a few things that are cool, every main character has a main instrument like the main characters you've heard alot, and when humans are singing and have back vocals it's gotta be more people singing but when gods have backing vocals no one has to be singing showing how much powerful the gods are then humans
14:08 Funny fact: that harmony was inspired by an accident. He had a few different tracks of that, and meant to unmute either one of them or the music, (I can't remember) and he accidentally unmuted ALL of the tracks.
I just realized the "waiting" "waiting for me" bit here and then thought back to the underworld... Jorge has been brewing the underworld to his us hard since 2022 lol
The plucked instrument you noticed was actually an acoustic guitar! The guitar is Odysseus's signature instrument, electric for when he's particularly cunning, there's a battle going on or anything in that direction, and acoustic for more emotional parts of the story. Every bigger character has one of these signature instruments. Additionally, something you also noticed: The blend of electronic and "natural" music styles is deliberate. Electronic, synthy music usually indicates the presence of a god or otherwise divine/supernatural character, while the more natural instruments are used for mortals.
@@SingingSealRiana I can’t do Scylla’s voice either, but I’ve realized that I can’t do voices that are like in the alto range, but gravelly, and the gravelly part is the hard part.
I'm not a music person but I absolutely love this musical and callbacks to earlier songs and every character having their own instrument...except Odysseus's second in command, because his instrument is the choir of Odysseus's and his men, he's the voice of the crew! :D
Welcome back for the 3rd video in the Troy Saga! I hope you're enjoying these so far (I recorded them all in one session, btw). Can't believe how much more there is to check out from EPIC: The Musical!
It's very faint but if you look at the scene shown during the "I see an island" line around 11:12 on this video you can see a faint skull made by the clouds and trees on the right side of the island
I love your point about the drive in the music being during the 'Ithaca's waiting, Penelope's waiting' section- Penelope is absolutely Ody's driving force, and its so cool to see you spot that in the music!
Fun fact is that each character has their own unique melody (and set of Instruments to reflect that identity), it's something you will notice more as you move further along 😊
What's amazing is that Jorge (I'm pretty sure) said he had no official experience with musical theory before this. (I may be completely imagining a memory of him saying that, so don't quote me on it. 🤣)
I never noticed that he used the plucking to give a percussive feel. I mean, I appreciated it but i didn't notice it until you said something. (If that makes sense lol)
One of my favorite elements of this and several other songs with the crew is how they form a Greek chorus essentially that provides explanatory or narrative details. It works so well with the source material and doesn't get in the way.
Did you know Eurylochus doesnt have a signature instrument? While the other do, like Odysseus he has a guitar, so Gorge did something else then a instrument, because Eurylochus loves the crew, the crew always accompanies him when he sings Sooo the crew is his instrument??
Polites, my darling boi Ooooh~, i hadnt noticed the heart of the song is behind the lyrics about home(Ithaca/kingdom/Penelope), not the lyrics about sailing!
I surprised you didn't notice it yet, but then again it is hard to notice every important character has a instrument connected to them. Also for later note that unless there is a 'god' the backup is the crew singing gods get to summon backup vocals and use music editing.
Could wait to see if people bring this up later since I'm a bit late... and by now maybe you've learned on your own but: Odysseus, our titular character... nothing much to say here, he's the MC and 90% of what you need to know is learned through this story. After all "The Odyssey" is *his* story. Eurylochus: Ody's second in command and Brother-in-Law, in Odyssey he's a bit of a coward and constantly questions Ody. Polites: Ody's best, and likely oldest, friend. He is a sweet cinnamon roll... I will speak more of him later.
There's a certain instrument that is a certain character's motif in one of the later sagas that I'll be curious to see if you notice and specifically identify it. I didn't even hear it until Jorge pointed it out.
I know some of the ones you've watched with auto, do have English captions, make sure to go into settings to double check of videos have it I know having the captions on the videos helped me, I made a whole playlist that I made sure most had subtitles
One thing has been bothering me. "If we don't return, then 600 men can make this whole place burn." Polites is one of the 600 men under Odysseus's command. It'd be 599 people making the whole place burn.
I've recently had the thought of "why was Polites even with a war party when he can't stand fighting?" and it's been bothering me ever since lol. Like was he there just to cheer his friends on and give moral support, was he there as a medic of some kind? It just makes no sense someone with his outlook on life would take active part in war.
@@WittySomething 1) actually, making him a medic or some other "support" role would be fun. Nice idea (genuinely) 2)Well, the thing is - it's not like they actually got choice in the matter. Nope. Odysseus also didn't want to go and was forced to. So I don't think Polites fighting contradicts him not wanting to - in fact it's something that can be commonly found irl. In "Full spread ahead" the war is already over, so it's natural for him to say "okay, but NOW please let do things differently" and lean more into what he actually wants to do
I kinda agree but i also feel like he doesn't get much of a chance to show off his chops because of the style of singing his character does most of the time 🥺
@@JerrBaybEe (For the record, I think the second weakest - again, this is by default, as they are both excellent - is probably the singer for Circe. I base this mostly on early videos where the voice of Athena, who has literally the best voice on a woman I have ever heard, sings Circe's part and she's clearly better. But this is REALLY into ultra-nitpicky territory.)

13:50 Oddy sounds happy, because he knows, he'll be back before that. He is still very confident and hopeful at that point.

I wonder if the Electric guitar is a reference to the fact that he's related to a god, and thus slightly supernatural himself
@@anidiot9831 oh that's an interesting thought!
I will forever love profesionals reacting to Jorege Herans masterpiece of a musical in the making.
Jorge's vocal range is impressive. I'm a soprano and I can sing most of his vocals with ease.
Same! But my favourite part to sing is Penelope’s
He and zeus(luke) are weirdly the easyest for a medium high range female voice to sing along to
