    Taren you can try do put the two elastics in a different way to use only one and to be sure it snaps. Put the elastic of the right shoe (has if you were pedaling) on the front derailleur and the left shoe attached to the quick release of the rear wheel. In this way you don't need to elastics and the shoes are at the same level. Cheers Andrea

    I find I can run almost as fast through transition in my cycling shoes as people that are barefoot. I also find I pass about 4-6 people in the first few hundred meters of the bike while they’re trying to slip into their shoes.
    Just my experience.

    OR you can use a road shoe that uses a single BOA twisty system. All ya gotta do is twisty twisty 😉

    I've used specialized trivents for the last few years but after using a friend's specialized road shoes I found them a lot more comfortable. I bit the bullet on a pair of giro factor techlace shoes (one boa dial and two velcro straps) and found it to be just as easy as my trivents. The rubber band system was a little more complicated without the help loop but they're much better than my old trivents. I'd recommend and road shoe with boa dials to be used as a triathlon shoe. you see a lot of pros doing the same

    Hey Taren. I agree that it's better to use the tri shoe and using Mtb shoes isn't going to save that much time. That being said, whenever one of these arguments come around someone will inevitably say they wear their gear because of their sponsors and not necessarily what is fastest. Can you do a video on some areas you think the pros compromise speed/performance for sponsorship? I know most pros are going to publically say they use their sponsored items because they are the fastest (they're getting paid to say it whether or not they actually believe it) but then when they switch sponsors all of a sudden the next company makes them faster. Cheers

      @TriathlonTaren  6 років тому +1

      That would be an impossible video to do, to be honest. And quite frankly, I don't think there are pros who sacrifice performance for sponsored goods; it doesn't benefit them to go less fast, they'll get less sponsorship if they're not winning.

    Hey Tarin. I know this is an old video, but I just came across it, because I was doing some searching on the tri shoes. Did you actually ever race with those shoes? I bought a pair of new Pearl Izumi Tri flys. I had an older pair and loved them, but the new pair are made like the ones you show in your video. The problem is the large Velcro strap pulls from the “wrong” side. When you put them on while biking, you must pull the strap to the inside of the foot, toward the crank. This causes a couple of problems, one it is harder to pull from that direction and two if you pull to tighten them, you can have the tongue of the strap hitting the crank arm. Very annoying. I just found it interesting that in the videos I watched, no one mentions this. Am I the crazy one?

    I use mtn bike shoes with elastic laces so they're easy to slip into AND easy to run in. Saves a lot on the T1 and T2 transitions. : P
    Rubber banding your shoes to your bike is silly and is slower.

    Nice Video, I think the crank should be at 9 oclock position when fixing with elastics, otherrwise the Pedals will turn while running with your bike and the System wont be stable. At least with my bike. I think hopping on the bike barefood is the most technical discipline in Triathlon, glad you made a video about it! Thanks! Btw. If you dont have laces in your shoes, you can fix the elastics on Other parts of your shoes, for example around the cleats.

    I think that you are using the wrong tab for the rubber bands - those are for your fingers. There is a smaller tab/hole just a bit lower for the rubber bands, check it out!

    Newbie questions here. Did my first sprint tri this year and liked it so I plan to get into the sport further. Thus, no more biking in my running shoes! Haha! Let the shoe shopping begin. Do the pro’s use that elastic band trick, or are there other ways of keeping your shoes upright? Do race organizers have issues with elastic band litter, since I’m assuming they just fall to the gerund? Is there a major advantage to putting your shoes on before you mount vs keeping them on your bike? And finally, do you not get little bits of gravel or whatever stuck to your feet as you run barefoot to the mounting line? Over here in SK most of the transitions aren’t swept...just parking lots. :) Thx! And thanks for the vids!

    I'm personally looking forward to a pair of Vibram FiveFingers that I can add removable bike cleats to... wishful thinking

    I've always put my shoes on in T1 and run to the mounting point. I put socks on there too cos I figure I'll need them for the run anyway and my feet get cold on the bike without them. I've had the same bike shoes for at least ten years and they seem fine to run in.

      Nope, UA-cam just sometimes decides to take away our ability to make money... very randomly. We never know why. It's a bummer. :( But thank you for watching when there are ads!

    Taren, I have a question for you...Why is it that 99.9 % of people i speak to say this: 'Oh, i hate running, but i love swimming.'.......Why is it that people who like swimming dont like running...and more specifically why oh why are most of these people quite over weight...and unable to run or cycle....Why is it very easy for them to swim great distances but then choose to use an elavator rather than take the stairs? So, what is the technquw to swimming? I just dont understand

    • @TriathlonTaren
      @TriathlonTaren  6 років тому

      Swimming is easier because you're buoyant and there's no strain on the joints. So of course it's easier for people carrying extra weight, and many people do find swimming more enjoyable... lots of people hate running. But then, lots of people hate swimming too. It's personal preference, and I can't guess on why certain people make the choices theyd o.

    Do triathlon shoe straps usually tighten from outside to inside? This wasn’t mentioned as a difference to regular cycling shoes. Thanks from a complete novice

    • @evinkc05
      @evinkc05 6 років тому

      optimus prime yes they do, this is so that the loose strap does not entangle or snag your bike or drive train while putting your feet into your shoes while doing a flying mount. Cheers

    I have never felt any difference between using my normal running shoes and clipping in.....????? Just the same to me.....and a lot safer with normal running shoes. Im sure that if you get to a certain level every second counts by....for me.....no.

    • @mochidomo
      @mochidomo 6 років тому

      ROY F I feel like, the longer the ride/ faster you go, road shoes will make more of a difference. There have been times where I have been scared of going faster on the bike due to the fact that my running shoes might slip off the pedals. And the stiffness and power transfer of road shoes feel tremendously greater than just running shoes.

    delayed question @Taren
    if I'm looking at just getting a single pair of cycling shoes... do you recommend me buying a pair of tri-shoes or road-shoes?
    I remembered an older vlog you did you suggested a tri-cycling shoe if you only looking to choose one.
    N.b. i'm living in South England now, so can expect a mix of very sunny at times, but lots of rain at others ;)
    will tri-shoes be too cold in wet weather?
    Thanks

      If I said it in an older vlog and haven't made a new one, then you can trust that old info stands! If it's cold, get neoprene shoe caps.

    easy - trishoes are made for shorter distance.
    Road shoes for IM.
    No pro are on trishoes on an im. Period.
