  • Though most familiar to over 700,000 weekly listeners as host of the hit comedy “The Debaters” on CBC Radio One, it is as an award-winning stand-up comedian and Master of Ceremonies where Steve Patterson proves most masterful.
Since leaving a full-time career as a copywriter behind in 1997, Patterson has performed all over the English-speaking world in comedy clubs, theatres and live events.
Career highlights include being named Canada’s Best Male Stand-up Comic at the Canadian Comedy Awards in both 2011 and 2013 as well as being nominated as the Canadian Comedy Person of the Year in 2012 and 2013. He has also headlined throughout Ireland and Australia, performed for several top tier North American companies throughout the continent and has starred in several nationally televised specials in Canada including the prestigious Just For Laughs Galas where, in 2010, his performance on a Steve Martin hosted gala prompted the comedy icon to proclaim:
“If I’d known he was going to be THAT good I would have cancelled him.” So what makes Patterson “THAT good?”
He is up-to-the-moment with current events, meticulous in creating material and lightning-quick with a comeback. He is confident but also self-deprecating and while he will have fun with his audience he will never make fun of an audience member unless the target of his joke is laughing the loudest in the room.
In 2014, Patterson completed his first national theatre tour of his one man show called “This is Not Debatable” and released a comedy album of the same name, both of which received strong critical acclaim. He also hosted a one hour special called “I Wrecked My House” for HGTV Canada which earned him a 2015 Canadian Screen Award nomination and helped the series get picked up for a 14 episode run scheduled to air on HGTV this spring.
This year Patterson will embark on his second national theatre tour entitled “I Laugh Therefore I Think”, and will continue his hosting duties with CBC Radio on the ninth season of “The Debaters”.
So if you are looking to book a “good” comedian for your next event, there are several good choices. If you would prefer to book a one-of-a-kind performer who has been recognized as the best in the business and will customize your event like no other speaker, Steve Patterson is one of the very few you should consider.

I'm Irish and I would be offended by this if he wasn't pretty much spot on. Except no barman would ever call Guinness beer. Ever...

Saying "half X" is a casual way of saying "half past X", not just in Ireland, but right across the British Isles.

soloasdubh That confuses me because in my other language we say "half-four" which would mean 3:30. That's why that gets me all the time.

Description box is stupid. It describes him as a good comedian but good is in quotation marks. Firstly good in terms of quality and in terms of morality are two different things so putting it in quotation marks is pointless. Secondly if you don't believe in the concept of good as indicated by putting the word in quotation marks don't describe someone as good; that's blatant hypocrisy. Finally there is such a thing as good; some things work better than others and some actions produce better results than others so moral nihilism is a steaming pile of crap anyway.
