Unfortunately this is dated and Merv Griffin passed away many years ago but his legacy goes on! He was a fantastic man and Entertainer above and beyond most anyone in the business!!!!!
I loved. His old tv shows he had lots of famous people on there also he was a beautiful piano player he was a good personal talent I enjoyed him very much too bad he is gone
Ah yes! Eva and Merv. My two favorite lovebirds of the 80's and 90's. I have pictures of them on my cellphone. This may sound crazy, but I look at their pictures whenever I listen to the music of my 60's childhood from the oldies shows that I taped off of the Philadelphia radio stations during the period that they were dating.
Of all the guests that Merv had on his talk show, he only had eyes for Eva. It's hard to believe that he was dating one of his favorite guests. But I like I said earlier, Eva and Merv were very good friends before they started dating each other.
He was a lot of fun to watch. He was kinda the gossipy type. I believe those lawsuits brought against him were dropped because he paid both men off. Very rich and powerful men tend to have a kinky side to them.
Rich and powerful men have their choice of women so I think it becomes boring after a while so they look for something more taboo. A lot of men in entertainment end up gay, or maybe they were gay to start with and tried to hide it by getting married.
WE HAD KNOWN MIKE DOUGLAS AND WERE ALWAYS AT HIS SHOW FILMED AT KYW TV 3 IN PHILADELPHIA. BUT WE HAD NEVER MET MERV GRIFFIN BECAUSE OF COURSE MERV'S SHOW WAS TAPED IN CALIFORNIA WELL MERV WROTE A BOOK AND CAME INTO PHILADELPHIA AND DID THE AM PHILADELPHIA SHOW ON ABC CHANNEL 6 AND MY MOM AND I WENT TO SEE HIM AND MERV WAS JUST TGE NICEST PERSON YOU COULD MEET AND WE TOOK PICTURES WITH HIM AND HE KEPT TALKING TO US LIKE GE HAD KNOWN US FOR YEARS. MERV WAS JUST A NICE PERSON.
In one of HIS books....he talks ALOT.about his gay encounters...back then it was kept close to the vest....he and Eva were.fabulous friends..but she was a beard for him.....l actually put that book.down...it wasnt pleasant
The only time that I watched his show was when Eva was on there. They'd be joking and laughing and kidding around on there. He even jokingly mocked her Hungarian accent. They were best friends long before they started dating. I don't know exactly when they started dating. She said that he helped her out when she and her last husband had split up. I thought they started dating back in 1985. The year before (1984), I saw a picture of them in The Star and she was flirting with him. Maybe they started dating in '83; the year that her last marriage had broken up. But anyway, I wish they had gotten married. Merv would have been an excellent husband to Eva.
You are recalling correctly. Merv and Eva had a genuine connection. It was the real deal. Merv was a nice man. And Eva was such a sweet person. The two were lucky to have each other's company. I recall once, in early 1986, Merv, this writer and a small crew drove to Eva's mom's house in Palm Springs where we did an interview with Eva's mom, Jolie Gabor. Another sweet lady. Eva was more down to earth than Zsa Zsa. Eva was never kicked out of a hotel for not paying the bill, walked off the stage during a performance, or slapped a cop like Zsa Zsa.
Also back in 1980, Merv interviewed both Eva and Zsa Zsa in their homes. I saw the one Eva, and just a glimpse of Zsa Zsa Since they were both married at the time, he could have included their husbands as well. Eva was married to an aerospace executive and Zsa Zsa was married to a lawyer.

Eva and Merv looked oh so happy together. In their pictures, they were always smiling, holding hands, and he even had his arm around her. Here on my cellphone, I have an album full of pictures of them; including one from 1989 where they were both kissing each other. I never saw them kissing each other before. But I can tell from these pictures that they were both very much in love. This may sound crazy, but I look at these pictures while listening to my cassette tapes of these weekend oldies shows that I taped off of the Philadelphia radio stations during the time that they were both dating each other. Just like then, it's makes me feel good all over. Listening to the music of my 60's childhood and looking at pictures of my two favorite celebrity lovebirds of the 80's and 90's at the same time. I renewed my interest in both Eva's and Merv's relationship three years ago. I was going to Los Angeles for 11 days and I was listening to my cassette tapes from that same period. I took some of those same tapes with me to Los Angeles and I listened to them right there in my hotel room. I also went to visit their graves as well when I was there. I also went to weekend Mass at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills where their funerals were held at. And I also saw Eva's house as well. My brother even took pictures of me right there in front of her house. Now her house is up for sale again. Since 2015 marked the 20th anniversary of Eva's passing, I wanted to pay tribute to these two wonderful people who were a part of my life. To me, they're both not dead. They still live.
