Hi, UCX user here. The only 3 things I would change are: 1- an extra headphone output (come on, for the price we pay they could add it). 2- some physical buttons straight on the audio interface for cut, dim, talkback, mono, phase...like Audient ID44 or Apollo do (not comparing the quality) but the ease of use. And 3- Totalmix software is powerfull when you learn how to use but it takes time. Software like UAD or even Audient I found more friendly. What you think Bolo?
The RME ARC USB controller adds a lot of the functionality (and more) based on your second point. The macro actions you can program within TotalMix when paired with the ARC are pretty extensive, and if you’re not using the Durec port for recording, then it plugs straight into the interface. Look into it. There’s also the option of Total Mix Remote for iOS which is a touchscreen remote control app for all Total Mix capable devices (turning your interface into a pseudo digital mixer).
@@miltonfostersound I saw your good intention on your comment, but for me is a bit pointless pay extra $200,00 for a device when you already paid 1700. In my vision I only keep RME because it's very solid in terms of quality in all aspects (Round Trip Latency, Drivers, converters, etc). But in terms of ease use, they lack the items that I mentioned in my comment before. I think they should release an interface for home studio, same internal quality, less I/Os and more functions/buttons straight on the interface, like audient id24, and for the totalmix, they really should do a revision it's to much complicated, specially for home studio producers.
FYI though, the Apollo X16 converters aren't the same as the other X series units. The X16 converters are actually one of the best in the industry, if not "The Best" in Analog conversion.
Great callout on the drivers. They are among the best in the business. Also good call out for the class compliant / MPC application. For those who don’t know what Bolo is talking about, you can hook a class compliant audio interface into some modern Akai MPCs for extra outs and ins. Really crucial for those who want individual outs for drums (in like a tracking situation.) All around a great review! No BS and right to the point. P.S. I think TotalMix will let you run more than one interface in a system if you want to expand later. The caveat here is I think they both need to be using the same connection type (e.g. USB).
If you don't need the bells and whistles then the ADI-2 FS is a better AD/DA device. I spoke to RME and ALL the ADI-2 are a step up in converter quality over All The rest. Then you have three ADI-2 models which have converters that are ALL the same. The difference is within the other features in the ADI-2 lineup. The ADI-2 is meant for Monitors and Mastering.
I tried replacing my Steinberg UR824 with this RME and Nope, didn't hear a difference. A/Bd, Blind tests with clients, etc. And no difference. I guess the UR824 is that good. 😮 Ended up with an SSL 12. I can most definitely hear the difference with it. Much cleaner, better sound, very flat response (no hype) and no coloration (unless you use the 4k button). Saved a lot of $$$, and i can even use the UR824 for the extra ADAT inputs on the SSL 12, to make it an actual SSL 12 in. 😅
@@RespectMyFreshTV No joke. I produce and record different genres. The actual artist I worked with picked out the UR824 in a blind test that i did. Personally, I didn't hear a difference in the recodings or the mix. As I mentioned, I can definitely hear the difference with the SSL 12. It's a differnece that i personaly like. Does that mean everyome else will like it? All comes down to personal preference. Sweet water will let you return the gear within 30 days i believe, if you're not satisfied with it. Give the RME a shot. Don't take my word for it. Just don't want anyone spending money where they don't need to. Are you not liking your 824 or just want to switch it up? Mine was a little outdated, that's all. Sometimes don't believe the hype. Try it for yourself. Good luck.

interesting topic, been using three sound cards for the past 5 ish years. my system is comprised of a prism sound Orpheus a rme digiface usb and a behringer 8200. each of them has their strengths and weakness. when I want to record critical recordings I always go for the Orpheus as a master clock and it sounds rich and clear by that I mean that it's not even there. a good sound card should not affect the sound. here is where the RME comes in.....it's the total mix Matrix! having routing anything to anywhere is fantastic. the behringer 8200 is just for the 8 ins and outs
Dont be Skeptical about the Babyface Pro FS. Ive had the BF, BF Pro, and now the FS. I use it for AD on main Monitors, and as master clock source. I use the Digiface USB with 3 Presonus DP88's (Burr Brown Converters) for summing and interfacing with my patchbay of hardware. Also enables me to use the Baby Face Pro in CC mode with my MPC, and send 8 channels into my hardware, before patching the 8 channels into my DAW VIA the Digiface USB. Ive considered the UCX II, but ill wait for the next update first. The good thing is ill def be staying RME so my setup wont change at all. Just better quality. This set up also enables me to dump my entire DAW track load into my summing mixer VIA 3 DP88's with burr brown AD/DA.

Bolo salute on making this video. I been wanting an RME audio interface for at least a decade. I had the bread to get it 10X over and still I went with others. My current interface, is the reason I’m finally going to pull the trigger on the UFC II. I currently have the Focusrite 18i8 Gen III. Great interface WHEN USING THE FRONT INPUT JACKS. TERRIBLE INTERFACE WHEN USING THE BACK INPUTS. (Yeah I’m shouting) I didn’t discover the fixed -18db inputs, until I wanted to hook up my MPC X using all the outputs. Of course I looked on line to see if I was bugging out. Yup other people were complaining about it as well. Anyway, I have watched countless videos on UFC II and watched how to use Total Mix. After seeing you talk about the UFC II. Yeah, it’s time. ✌🏾
YEP!!! I still keep around Two outdated Fireface 800's and now I'm on to the Fireface UFX III. Rock solid drivers and sound!! Totalmix is amazing software once you get your head wrapped around it!! RME 4 Life!!!
And BOLO… I’m worried about what UA is going to do… Around winter NAMM. I got a gut feeling they’re going to drop something dope! But that’s just a gut feeling… Don’t quote me on that.
I've never tried an RME interface and I'm pretty sure they're good. I've heard/read nothing but good things about them. However, they are very expensive, just like most other higher-end gear. I have a lot of hardware synthesizers and drum machines with lots of outputs and I like to plug everything into the interface at once and track it all out whenever I'm ready using my two MOTU 24ai interfaces, each of which offer 24 analog inputs and 3 sets of ADAT I/O connections offering an additional 24 channels of ins and 24 outs if I want to expand with an external ADAT D/A or A/D converters. Also this system is expandable and networkable via AVB and it also has onboard DSP mixer and processing as well as work in standalone mode without a computer. With that said, I'm very happy with the sound quality of the MOTUs. Obtaining a comparable system like this using RME interfaces would be insanely expensive.
Excellent review. Much appreciate it. Would love your opinion. I own an Apollo X8 and now going through the “bug’ of even considering swapping out my X8 for the RME reviewed here. Would appreciate any opinions and advice.
The RME UCX II does not work in Class Compliant mode with any of the new AKAI MPCs. After you put the RME IN Class Compliant Mode, sequence some beats and keep playing it, then start changing banks or jumping to different screen that is when the pops and clicks start. RME believes that the MPC just can not handle interface, remember in CC mode the RME takes over the USB protocol of Akai and it is one some firmware that is very basic. However it seems that RME BabyFace and Pro version do work in CC mode and you are able to use the ADAT in and out and there are no pops or clicks. Lastly I would ditch the entire Apollo system, the conversion is a joke, everyone knows it. RME latency is the best, and if you venture into PCIE cards, you will have the tightest system. RME user for over 15 years, converters do matter, Burl, Lavry, Mytek, Cransesong that is the name of the game. Let us know how it goes with the X SE. Also supposedly the X SE has Burr Brown converters but those are not your daddys Burr Brown that was in original MPCs. Do you thing with Akai men, let them know they need to change the converters or give us digital in and outs with word clock, it will be probably cheaper for them and make tons of people happy.
Still can't decide if I wanna save up for this beast or get the babyface. One of the things I like about this is that I can use the outputs for cv for my eurorack synth setup, and I'd love to be able to modulate from Bitwig into my eurorack.
I had the Babyface and switched to the UCX, the Dynamics section in TotalMix and the DURec function are definitely worth it, I do live sessions and record them from the interface, no DAW. And meetings everyday for which gate and compression are key. I would definitely add the ARC USB thought, I is an essential add on.
Hi, just switch. I bought the fireface 800 in 2007 and it still rocks. RME has a great ecosystem. 2 others you should look at are Antelope and Steinberg that is a true 32bit 384khz. Continued success.
I have been using rme for a bit, i have the ufx 3. I have never had much of a problem with it except just learning all its features. Sounds great too, not changing anytime soon...but motu is the poor mans rme. Had the chance to check out one of my ppls monitor 8 and was impressed with its abilities and sound quality. Not quite rme(to me) but for the $$ u can build a very nice studio network (pro quality) for alot less than most ppl think. The ess sabre 32 converters are top notch, close to the rme.
You can keep the RME as an audio interface, sell the UAD interface and buy a UAD Satellite instead just to run the plugin, best of both world. Not a good idea though if you really use those UAD plugin for recording.
Apogee has great conversion too. However I like the idea of RME supporting older legacy units. I have an apogee element 24 with xlr output that’s great. Would love to see how it compares to the RME.
Having some focus issues there... depth of field is very very shallow, so it's really important to be exactly where the focus is, every time :) Test, test test and mark everything to the floor so you know exactly where to stand...
RME Babyface pro FS is almost as good and bus powered - meaning you can take it anywhere. I’ve tried but nothing comes close for bus powered with such an amazing headphone amp. The UAD arrow / Apollo solo just didn’t do it, sounded flat as in no dimension.

I’ve heard… I got the 8 and X6 rack mount units. They are definitely solid, but for this to be $1600 and to sound this good is amazing🔥
@@BoloDaProducer No doubt 💯
You should try the RME ADI-2 DAC. It will blow your mind.
You’ve been asleep for too long you’ve been in the matrix..It’s about time!WELCOME TO THE RME CLUB
I’ve been awakened 🤣🔥💪🏾
RME is LEGIT!! Rock steady software too!
I REALLY respect rme as a company! They seem to do things the way it used to be done before private equity began destroying everything in its path lol
Great callout on the drivers. They are among the best in the business.
Also good call out for the class compliant / MPC application. For those who don’t know what Bolo is talking about, you can hook a class compliant audio interface into some modern Akai MPCs for extra outs and ins. Really crucial for those who want individual outs for drums (in like a tracking situation.)
All around a great review! No BS and right to the point.
P.S. I think TotalMix will let you run more than one interface in a system if you want to expand later. The caveat here is I think they both need to be using the same connection type (e.g. USB).
Good job Bro as always ,Ive had my eyes on this ,Thanks to you I'm on it ....definitely....Salute Boss
Been researching for the past two days and it will be ordered tomorrow - UFX II though.
RME all day long!
Their is No comparison !
Appreciate your good work !
I tried replacing my Steinberg UR824 with this RME and Nope, didn't hear a difference. A/Bd, Blind tests with clients, etc. And no difference. I guess the UR824 is that good. 😮
Ended up with an SSL 12.
Bro are you forreal? I have the UR824 and I was just thinking about upgrading to the RME.
Good luck.
@aquadiamondsekreto5280 I like the UR824 because of the stability I have. I'm looking to get better conversion, so that's where RME came in, plus I know they are rock solid on stability. I may have to test drive it and find out
RME been fire SINCE EARLY 2000s
Bolo get a Uad satellite and switch you can run the plug-ins that way
I got the old thunderbolt 2 one sitting on the shelf. I might check it out. 💪🏾
interesting topic, been using three sound cards for the past 5 ish years.
my system is comprised of a prism sound Orpheus a rme digiface usb and a behringer 8200.
each of them has their strengths and weakness.
when I want to record critical recordings I always go for the Orpheus as a master clock and it sounds rich and clear by that I mean that it's not even there.
a good sound card should not affect the sound.
here is where the RME comes in.....it's the total mix Matrix!
having routing anything to anywhere is fantastic.
the behringer 8200 is just for the 8 ins and outs
I have a similar setup where I'm using the Lyra 1for recording, and the RME ADR-2 Pro FS for mixing/mastering.
Yep...
Enjoying my UFX III...
USB 2.0 is capable to transfer 88 audio channels with 24bit and a sample rate of 192 kHz. That's massive.
Is there a notable difference between Babyface(old) and BFP FS in terms of D to A and headphone amp quality?
@@princegeorgemusic the Babyface pro FS, is superior to the Babyface pro, and the original Babyface, and almost every aspect. With that being said, if all I had was an original blue Babyface, I’m sure I could do whatever I needed to do. But yes, I did notice a greater degree of detail, switching to the Babyface pro FS from the Babyface Pro.
@@Crysco.mp3 Thank you. Thinking of upgrading to FS frm babyface silver
RME is the truth
Please do a video with likes of this RME workflow with the MPC. Thanx
THE Interface is Dope
Please tell me if ucx ii will work via usb I have an amd computer and there is no thunderbolt input. Thank you in advance!
Still can't decide if I wanna save up for this beast or get the babyface. One of the things I like about this is that I can use the outputs for cv for my eurorack synth setup, and I'd love to be able to modulate from Bitwig into my eurorack.
Get the ucx bro, you won't regret it
I had the Babyface and switched to the UCX, the Dynamics section in TotalMix and the DURec function are definitely worth it, I do live sessions and record them from the interface, no DAW. And meetings everyday for which gate and compression are key. I would definitely add the ARC USB thought, I is an essential add on.
I have the original rme ucx; never looked back.
The II looks nice but I’m good. My OG UCX produces fantastic sound.
Hi, just switch. I bought the fireface 800 in 2007 and it still rocks. RME has a great ecosystem. 2 others you should look at are Antelope and Steinberg that is a true 32bit 384khz. Continued success.
Banger Alert!!! Game Changer, this changes everything, will never be the same, Revolutionary Breakthrough, Mind-Blowing Discovery.....
Hey… I didn’t know…lol. Glad someone told me.. now I’m sold on it! 🤣💪🏾
Until the new model is so much better … every freakin year. Then you do an x vs y 10 years later and realise nothing has really changed,
Your camera wasn’t ready for the power of RME.
I loved your demo of this, great description 👍👍 Amazing 😅
LMAOOO!!! WELCOME TO RME GANG BOLO!!!!
The babyface is good for road use., and to me, It has always been better than the Apogee Duet.
I am not surprised. RME has the best converters, the best drivers and it always works. No one buying RME has ever changed his mind
Good vid, but I definitely want hear a shootout! Apollo vs Scarlet vs RME hell, throw in the Tascam mixer too.
I know Right
I might have to check it out. I’ve been using antelope audio which is pretty awesome
You slow to the game. I got my RME Fireface UCX 2013. This is the last interface you will ever need.
Welcome to the club. 😎
Well arent you cool where should I send you your cookie?
I have been thinking about getting the RME adi-2 fs as an external convertor....this video confirms that I need to gone head and grab it
You can keep the RME as an audio interface, sell the UAD interface and buy a UAD Satellite instead just to run the plugin, best of both world.
Not a good idea though if you really use those UAD plugin for recording.
Yeah , im thinking of upgrading from my focusrite solo 2gen to the rme Babyface
Bolo what analog case model will suit that Fireface ?
They have a line called the “Pulse Case” they have plenty of sizes and it should fit well.
Your content resonates globally! -- "Success is an ongoing, ever--evolving journey."
Good stuff, thanks 👍🏾
Apogee has great conversion too. However I like the idea of RME supporting older legacy units. I have an apogee element 24 with xlr output that’s great. Would love to see how it compares to the RME.
Is it better than Grace Design?
Please keep us posted Bolo! thx
A no brainer
RME UFX lll
Sold the antelope Orion synergy core. No looking back the RME is it!
Having some focus issues there... depth of field is very very shallow, so it's really important to be exactly where the focus is, every time :)
Test, test test and mark everything to the floor so you know exactly where to stand...
Yes I accidentally set it on manual during first part of video. Didnt notice until halfway through. But I got it right later in video 💪🏾
RME UFX for 10+ years....its a Masterpiece✅✅✅
....next up, RME ADI Pro
Totalmix seems difficult at first but if you learn it, its fire!
Is it low latency like my Presonus Quantum Thunderbolt interface. Can I monitor realtime like Thunderbolt allows me to. That is the question!
Definitely planning on grabbing one myself, please do a follow up..
About to cop it. Upgrading from a scarlet 2 3rd gen. Is it a big difference in sound quality?
I actually have both and personally RME is better but not by a lot
I have the RME UFX III and love it. It is better than the UA Apollo stuff and it has DSP onboard with Total Mix
What are the connections to run in it class compliant mode for the MPC, just regular 1/4 to RCA cables?
I’d be interested to know how it compares to antelope audio interfaces
I am confused between buying an UAD x4 and RME UcxII
I am running a M2 Max machine, please suggest me.
RME Babyface pro FS is almost as good and bus powered - meaning you can take it anywhere. I’ve tried but nothing comes close for bus powered with such an amazing headphone amp.
The UAD arrow / Apollo solo just didn’t do it, sounded flat as in no dimension.
Having depth makes your mixing job much easier
I gotta lot to learn but … I’m learning … and UAD. Ain’t it … that’s for the high quality basic recording … gon head n get u smthin that gon change that top 5% of ur mix … def matters
I'm on a hunt for a new Interface myself... I currently have the Steinberg UR 22MMKII , Going on about maybe 6 years with it .
The first audio interface I had was an RME and it was phenomenal - it's on my list to go again. I'd recommend anything from them. Always 5 *
Speaking of companies who should be 5*'s but aint... where the FK is MPC 3.0
Ever since i change to RME i ront have anymore nightmares..
I use to dream of monsters but now i dont thanx to RME
I’m sure they added the changes in price for all the cables.
and you can rack it to 19" had my eyes on this
I was wondering when you would jump on the RME
Still on that RME ?
Been looking for an interface maybe ill give this a try
