  • GUP Inflation / Sealant vs X-Acto Knife!
    See if GUP can fix two really big holes!
    In order to really test out GUP I had to go all in and puncture my tubeless tire! I put two pretty large punctures in this tire with an X-Acto knife and hoped for the best. Personally I feel that these holes might have been a little larger then I should have tested so lets see what happens!

    I've had it strapped to my bike since March waiting to test it in a wheel world scenario. Problem is, I haven't flatted since¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      So what you're saying is... GUP is so good it prevents flats! 😮

      Rather that than needing it! I was gifted one, left it at home. Had a 5mm gash from a bottle shard that my plug didn't want to seal and had to suspend the ride. Then remembered my gift, and whilst sitting at home while my mates were out riding I stumbled upon this video to see what it's all about.

    Thanks for the review Gene. Is the valve still usable or is it gupped up?

    Look like a pretty good product! I’d love to try some for myself! I ride a local trail with thorny locusts trees and Gup might be something I can get behind! Love to try it myself!

      It would seal up holes like that really fast. Just remember that this product gets you home and that you still would need to make sure your hole is taken care of for the long term. Not a product blemish at all. This little can does exactly what it is designed to do, get you home / finish the race 👍

    You should try rolling through a rock garden after sealing up to see how it actually holds out on the trail.

      JediSuPhu I agree man. Just short on time and was still a little sore from my crash. That would have been a good test.

    I'm still trying to figure out how to get most of it in the tire. Recently a nail was pulled out of my foot so I have a pretty good idea of what I have been riding over

    Awesome review...
    Do you feel the difference in weight after inflating it? I guess is as much heavy as the bottle is, right? That's if you get to use the whole bottle.

    Their page doesn't work in Firefox 61.0.1 (64-bits), it scrolls before you can click on anything.
    I reported it to Mozilla & Güp.
    but Chrome works.

    Could this work with a tube do you think? I ask after pinch flatting the DH bike and not being able to get the axle off to change the tube. I feel like it might work?

    • @rgmtb
      @rgmtb  6 років тому +1

      MikeLikesTrails I asked about this and the issue is that a tube stretches more than a tire and there is a chance the hole might not seal. They didn't say I wouldn't work, but just offered that info to think about.

    • @MTBGarage

      That makes sense, I guess I just need to start carrying patches again! welcome to 1990 ;)

  • @mountaintime4276

    I'd still carry a tube but this looks like a quick alternative.

    • @rgmtb
      @rgmtb  6 років тому

      I gave up tubes awhile ago but to your point, I still carry my Dynaplug kit with me. You are completely correct when you said it is a quick alternative. Now if you are a racer I would argue that this should totally be on your bike. A tube or plug kit might get you going again, but they take longer and you really would be out of the race. This could get you going and actually still keep you in the race depending how things are going. I love the idea of options 👍

    I don't understand how when you just stick the can on the valve that it injected the sealant?

    "Showing" that you took the air out would help viewers; to know if you took time to remove the valve stem. That would have been helpful, but it was edited out, or maybe it wasn't even filmed.

  • @eschwarz1003
    @eschwarz1003 4 роки тому

    how long will it hold? what volume does a can serve out.

    • @rgmtb
      @rgmtb  4 роки тому

      It will get you home. I don't see it used like a plug which is a long term fix but more for a "Damn I'm stuck out here and want to get home!" fix.
      This can get get a 29in 2.4 tire back up and running if that helps. Not for a fat bike tire without using a pump to help get the rest of the air in there.

    Somebody explain me please what happened with the traditional method with help Stans no tubes sealant??? Is it only if you have a really big hole or what???

    • @rgmtb
      @rgmtb  5 років тому

      Yep, this is for bigger holes. I was at the bike park this weekend and got a mean puncture that was just to big for Stan's.

      I'm such a doofus! Why couldn't they just put OO? Great product still!

  • @Howardv1
    @Howardv1 5 років тому

    Been carrying it and finally got a chance to test it out on the trail yesterday. My 29x2.35 mountain bike tire (tubeless) got punctured by a sharp rock. About 1/2 inch. I watched as all the Stan's sealant sprayed out. Followed instructions on GUP and NOPE! Didn't fix it. White stuff spraying out of the puncture spot. Kept finger on it for a while, but wouldn't seal. Your exact-o knife makes a perfect cut which is rare in the real world. Thumbs down from me. Keep carrying a spare tube for emergencies!

    • @rgmtb
      @rgmtb  5 років тому +1

      It was a very hard product for me to test because creating the hole can happen in so many ways. One trick that GUP taught me was to use the dirt around you and rub it into the cut so that the sealant sticks to it and helps clog the hole enough until more sealant can join in and finally save the day. It's also a tough tool to practice since we don't often get punctures.
