We have a First 501 (ex Moorings Charter in Saint Martin) She was very tired when we aquired her but made it across the pond with no problems. Much hard work and not a few pounds brought her back to life. That was thirty years ago and she still gives pleasure to a third generation of our family. based in Menorca. Treat them well and spend a few pounds and you will get a lot of boat for your money. Good review!

It is not clear why they put Fisher Panda instead of Yanmar and added extra electric motors with batteries? Apparently this somehow solves the problem of ecology )) The review is excellent as always. Thanks for your attention to detail

@4:00, so the First53 is no longer in production?
The irony of wrapping a n "Eco" friendly boat in vinyl is not lost.

Why have gas bottles when you are electric? Why not induction cooking?

    57hp?
Why a typo on probably the most crucial piece of info in the whole video?

I notice that the diesel inverter has water cooling that requires a heat exchanger that takes in salt water.
    Ugh!
Another negative in the “should-I-go-electric?” balance sheet.

What happens if there was fire on board? Would the boat just melt into the harbour?

    • @thomasgcampbell
      @thomasgcampbell Рік тому

Only if the fire gets hotter than 400 degrees

Yes! If it is a very dramatic fire it will.

Would it not be better to make hulls of better quality and just refit boats. Why are we building in obsolescence at all? No GRP boat should need to be recycled or repurposed. Make solid hulls which can be refitted and allow a boat to naturally come to the end of its life, which will be considerably longer than 40 years

The hull and structure will be soft after 40 years

57hp genset! they should save weight by removing all the batteries and motors and fit a gearbox and prop to that.

He said 5kW, so 7hp roundabout. That makes way more sense. I´m pretty sure there was an error in the "subtitling".

PS. Just checked, as I also thought it was weird: the spec sheet from Fisher Panda says 4kW, which come to round about 5.7hp...

Nothing on that boat reminds me of a race boat. Very disappointed. Like the recycling and the electric motors, but for racing just no.

Crap!! Electric lithium mined an environment disaster. I wouldn't trust it. A fire hazard!

Anyone who can afford to buy this yacht , are not going to give a shit what happens to it in 40 years .

The resin melts/ breaks down at 400°C, gasolene/petrol burns at 1026°C don't have a petrol fire on a woke boat ...

If you have a fire heading your hull to 400C, the melting is the least of your problems. Your boat is on fire and you need to get out.
