- We love a visit to Folkestone in Kent and what is more appealing than the idea of Christmas by the sea? Well the weather wasn't quite on our side and some of the festivities were a little low key but with some good food, hot chocolate and a little bit of Christmas spirit, we made sure our day in Folkestone wasn't a waste of time.

I went to Folkestone for a couple of days around the 15 December 2023. The old high street looked nice, but it appeared that something had gone sadly wrong with the lights along Sandgate Road. I've got pictures from before the pandemic, in 2019, when I paid my last Christmas visit and there were a lot more lights to be seen. Still, I had a lovely break. I even enjoyed my stay in the Grand Burstin, which is just across the road from where my nan grew up in South Street (the bit destroyed in the war).
Believe me, my friends, with the biggest heat wave my country has ever seen, weather like yours is simply a dream!

Folkestone is lovely, shame the weather wasn't great, the wind did look rough. The Taco's looked lovely. It's a nice place to walk round. Perhaps the weather stopped people turning up? I hope you both have a really lovely Christmas. x

I love your videos! You always look like your having fun. However, of all your UK videos, I don't recall you ever getting in the water. You talk about it, but never do. As someone in the Western US, is the water too cold? If course, I'm sure it is now! But summertime? Are you likely to be rolled around by the current? I'm a beach person. Am I screwed going to the UK to enjoy the water?
UK Coastal waters are quite cold and you can only swim for a certain amount of time before you get too cold and have to come out again and hopefully warm up in the sun. You can either rush madly in and get it over and done with, or advance an inch at a time, wincing and shivering all the way. As kids our mum took us to the beach most days during the school summer break, but I haven't been in the sea for nearly 50 years now. I don't enjoy cold water swimming. It's ,more of a test of endurance than fun.

That was good fun - you make me laugh (in a nice way!) - shame about the “Folkestone Council’s careful of their Christmas decorations budget and expenses” plan but hey ho, a “sympathy for the tree” charity funding being arranged to ensure the Folkestone 2024 Christmas Tree will have bigger and better baubles! 😃
What I heard was that on Dec 27th, we can all expect a new video of their boxing day dip! 🙌🏽🥶🧊
