This surveyor is a good guy to have on your side. Not only does he does his job and inspect the important stuff, he educates you on what, how, and when to take action. Good find and good luck.
I have stood in on two boat surveys, one when I was buying my last boat, and also when I sold it. Two different surveyors. This guy Rick, seemed to by very thorough and meticulous. I would hire him.
Thanks for sharing that very thorough survey. Your surveyor is so knowledgeable, must’ve really put your mind at ease to watch the process. I’m currently searching for a lake cruiser or express cruiser, and I will definitely call in a surveyor as part of the process. Best wishes!
I hired a world-renown surveyor to examine a wooden 40-foot yawl and after I bought the boat we learned that he missed extensive rot at the chain plates, horn timber and bow. It was a financial and emotional calamity.
Probably the best and most honest survey that I have seen. Knowledgeable guy providing the information that you require to not purchase a lemon, with problems. Thanks for sharing, hope you both enjoy great times on your yacht 🛥
Just looking at his arms this surveyer knows the the Sea and everything single minute detail of what condition any boat is in. Salutes to him what a example of professionalism and seamanship 12:16 A splice ?...at the junction? That's a careless duct tape fix up. That's gotta get work out correctly. Start a fire 🔥 oh hell nooooo!
This guys knows his stuff, talk about thorough, dont know if your engine is raw water cooled or cooled with antifreeze via heat exchanger, with a heat exchanger you can get a drippless shaft seal and never worry about that leaky shaft ever again, congrats on the boat just subbed to your channel,
13:08 That pressure gauge at the high pressure side of the regulator is as good as meaningless. Since propane is condensed to liquid in the bottle, the pressure is the same right up until the bottle is empty. The only way to tell how much propane you've got is to weigh the bottle (if it's not transparent so you can see the liquid level).
WOW... That is a very good surveyor ..... I'm just down the road and if i find a boat local.. he's the man i want .. Can I get his contact info please...if you don't see this i will find i'm on my own ... Congratulations on your new S/V
Your surveyer Rick is amazing! It seems he did a great job for you pointing out everything wrong with the boat and really that's what you want. You owe him a beer, I wish my surveyer had been that thorough I would have saved thousands of dollars in the long run. Looks like you got a good boat that's gonna take care of you when you need it! Good luck and God Bless! Now lets get out there! Bill S.
Because a lot of surveyers out there don't give you a thorough survey. Looks to me like he got a good job. I like to thank people who do a good job. Sounds like you might "The Boss From Hell" like the TV show says! My parants always taught me if you can't say something nice keep your mouth shut, but I'll make an acception for you Josef!
Scott Harrell Aww, it's real sweet that you're so interested in me that you did some snooping. But are you really stupid enough to think a kayak needs a survey? Do you not know how much surveyors charge? Clearly you don't. But if it did, what could that possibly have to do with anything? And racial slurs that don't even apply? That's pretty pathetic, even by your standards.
@@Josef_R - hate to break it to you, but boat surveys on most boats run anywhere from $20-$30 per vessel foot...and on this little thing (26-ft) it may be so small, that it hit some 'minimum charge' as opposed to just being 'length rated' for $ 500. (like $750 minimum charge). If you can't afford $750 for a vessel you can (and may) take around the world...then there's a high-chance you probably don't need to be out there in a boat, to start with (by comparison, my Chevy Silverado costs me around $2,600 a year, A YEAR, to keep insured and tagged...so a once-per-decade survey isn't 'outrageous' at $750).
@@skeetersaurus6249 what is it you think was the point of your post? It doesn't have anything to do with anything I said here, but you named me. I didn't say anything here about not being able to afford a survey or not wanting to pay for a survey.
So awesome! I've started looking into sailboats myself and I saw an IP as an option. Nice find! Glad you dont have to fix up that much stuff. How much did the IP run you? Also, would you be able to do a little something about yearly maintenance costs for your boat? Good luck on your journeys!!
While this inspector more or less knows his job, he is mostly convinced he is right. And that puts his vision in a different light. His complacency very clearly influences his work. He starts the survey with the boat's reputation as his guide. That is like tasting wine with the label in front of you. No go.
He likes that certain class of boat seemed very knowledgeable of the history of its creation etc. He may have some bias but will know the cons and encourage fixing them to make sure that at minimum keeps it reputation as a favorite
Propane on a boat is very dangerous but sometimes a necessary evil. The propane tank and regulator (the most common leak points) seen in a compartment and in low recessed area that could conceivably flood the bilge and lower living areas with flammable gas kinda freaks me out. Propane belongs on deck preferably away from hatches so if there was a leak at the tank or regulator the heavy flammable gasses would pour off the boat into the water. They make deck lockers that direct the gas overboard or if deck space is limited fabricate tank holds the tank out over the stern. Flammable fume detector(s) should be properly installed in any boat that uses gasoline or propane onboard imho.
If your specifically wanting to see the exact process this isn't it just a mash up of small portion and extra chatter still informative if you already know about yachts
Any boat, even a brand new one, is an ongoing collection of problems, projects, and expenses. Nature of the beast. This boat seems exceptionally nice. If the surveyor doesn't find things, he's not doing his job.
I have a question about getting a surveyor. Did you give the boat owner an offer and then get the survey? And they depending on how the survey goes and everything checks out ok, then you go with the deal?
+Richie O'Donnell That is exactly right. In our case we made an offer contingent on the boat passing the survey. Basically, that means we had a survey done and if it showed what we expected and nothing over budget or unanticipated came out of the survey so we went through with the deal. If there are negative findings in the survey you could renegotiate. We did not, because I felt like we had a good deal and the survey showed the condition to be as expected. Great question, thanks for asking! - Captain Nic
What is the grand total cost if you did all the items, the survey recommended? and the total of the absolutely necessary items? Did you get any reduction from the seller, because of the survey?
Josef Roesler I watch a young couple who bought and lived on the hard for two years refitting their aluminum boat. But I can't think of their name right now.
Evvy Thomas Just got a notification, it's "Coast Life" about a Canadian guy with a goatee and his wife on a sailboat. This one is "Boat Life" about a Canadian guy with a ridiculous goatee and his wife on a sailboat. No wonder I was confused...
Hi Emma, the survey on the boat we ended up buying was about $600. They usually charge by the foot. We had another boat survey before Dodi and that one was about $800. It was a bigger boat. I would call around and ask some surveyor for there pricing. They also may charge higher rates for older boats and for travel time, so keep all that in mind. Good luck!
Brilliant job. I wish I had that surveyor over here. Greetings from the Med.

Please buy an Island Packet! Such nice boats.
As long as you get the right surveyor. Not a friend of the seller.

Looked like an excellent surveyor... watched a few of these online and he looked to be the most comprehensive I've seen.

Always a great call. Most marinas require it anyway. I'm getting mine surveyed on 02/19/2019. Great video and editing.
Thank you so much! Good luck with your survey!!
Glad ya found her!!! Now the fun begins making her your own!! Congrats!!

Yeah he was great to work with.
Lovely pedigreed boat. Weird steering setup though.
Nice survey, how can I get in touch with the gentleman who did this survey. I think you called him Rick.
Much appreciated

Rick Shelley in St Petersburg, FL.
If you can't find him email me and I will give you his number and email but I didn't not want to post it here.
Ok thanks I'll email you to get his number.. Fair winds.
LEARNING ALOT FROM VIDEOS. LOOK FORWARD TO NEXT ONE. GODS SPEED AND WIND IN YOUR SAILS
where is that surveyor located at? are they still doing them? looking at a boat in mass myself.
Congratulations !
I cant bear the thought of being in any kind of serious weather and having to crack that engine cover to address a problem.
Where can we find Rick?
Would you be able to give the surveyors contact info? I assume he won't mind.
Better off replacing that old stuffing gland for a rubber volvo version or similar.
did I hear that radio transmission right? is the boat located in punta gorda?
awesome job Rick. how much time was spent on the survey? seems like it was more than 1 hour.
If your specifically wanting to see the exact process this isn't it just a mash up of small portion and extra chatter still informative if you already know about yachts
how much you paid for this check?
How much does it cost to get a boat survey done on a 30 foot boat?
Hi aren't you Peters Sellers ?
Rick is a fantastic inspector"
Kudo's to him .

Thanks for watching.
Marine Surveyor PT. Binaga Ocean Surveyor (BOS)
how much did you give for the boat in the end?
My internet is slow as fuck. It's set at 144p, and I'm still having to wait 20 seconds to watch 10 seconds of the video.

The Boat Life thanks for the feedback Cap'n
What is the grand total cost if you did all the items, the survey recommended? and the total of the absolutely necessary items?
Did you get any reduction from the seller, because of the survey?
I learnet some tings
Why are you getting a survey done after you've already rebuilt the boat? Or is this old footage you're just getting around to posting?
Josef Roesler they just bought the boat, you're thinking of a different channel.
Maybe I am, several of them are very similar. I wonder who I'm thinking of ...
Josef Roesler I watch a young couple who bought and lived on the hard for two years refitting their aluminum boat. But I can't think of their name right now.

Need subtitles! Can’t understand most of it
How much was your survey as I have a similar plan to you. Emma

Old guys rule.
Yup.
I bought my 36 Ericsson through that broker.
I bet any survey is an eye opener and a bit discouraging but thats what you pay to find stuff out. better the devil to know as it were ...
No moisture reading equipment, sorry but the hammer does not suffice. Have to keep up with technology
what is the surveyors full name, company name and phone number?
terrible audio unfortunately
i hope u didnt pay him by the hour
he didn’t even check the cutlass bearing . not impressed
So interesting thanks for sharing all the details! That's the Boat Life!
It is quite a detailed process. Glad you found it interesting.
10:27 boat yoga!
That is exactly what is happening there.
