Going through the video to explain some stuffs as I see them appear just in case someone doesn't realise/know what is going on: 10:40 - 11:00 The unit Arkantos is fighting is a Norse unit called the Hersir, an infantry unit who can build buildings like all other Norse infantry. A couple of interesting things about the Hersir is that they spawn with randomly generated names that fit the old Norse naming conventions. Also, if you choose Loki as a major god, basically your civilisation in this game, then your Hersirs have a chance to randomly spawn a Myth Unit which makes them useful in large scale battles where you have a lot of them on the field. 11:00 - 1:25 Hero of Ragnarok: A unit brought in by the Mythic Age God Power called 'Ragnarok', this turns all of the villagers/dwarves you have into Heroes of Ragnarok. The Hero of Ragnarok (unit) is a Norse infantry unit which means it inherits the ability to build buildings like all of the other Norse infantry. As a hero, it also inherits bonus damage against Myth Units which makes the ability useful if your enemy is making an army comprised mostly of Myth Units or if you have a Titan bearing down on you and you need a quick army. The obvious trade-off of the Ragnarok power is that you lose *all* of your land-based Eco, which makes this ability very situational and I personally wouldn't recommend it 12:00 - 12:55 Son of Osiris: An Egyptian UU brought about by worshipping Osiris to advance to the Mythic Age. You can use this ability to target your Pharoh (11:26 - 11:42) and turn him into a demigod with the ability to cast lightning magic that chains between about five other enemies. The Son of Osiris unit is a powerful one with a decent amount of health and good stats alongside the Chain Lightning, but you *cannot* heal it via any means that I'm aware of so I strongly advise against using it in your main army unless you can protect it. It also has fairly low movement speed as well so it's not going to be outrunning any infantry units any time soon unless the devs decide to buff that. 12:56 - 16:34 Human Atlantean units: *All* of the Human Atlantean units can be upgraded into Hero versions of themselves. While this buffs the units up quite substantially (and allows their Oracles to actually do damage) and makes Atlanteans one of (if not) the best Titan killing civs right off the bat as Heroes do bonus damage to Myth Units and depending on which Major/Minor gods you worship you can have arguably the best heroes in the game. However, upgrading your human units to Heroes does have a rather significant drawback when it comes down to it. Upgrading each of your human units to Heroes means that you have to pay for the cost of each individual unit again, plus some Favor, and then add one population on for each Hero that you make, meaning that you might become significantly limited with your Pop space if you make a whole bunch of units Heroes at once to deal with some myth units as suddenly you've got way less pop space than you did a few minutes ago. 13:18 - 13:46 Atlantean Citizen (Their villagers): The Atlantean Citizen is a curious case, being turned into a Hero unit allows them to gather resources at a faster rate (About 10% faster according to the wiki) and if push came to shove they can actually stand up for themselves (to a point) in combat if you have the micro skills to make use of them in this way 16:37 - 17:57 Ajax (Fall of the Trident): This appears to be the Campaign version of Ajax, which has better stats and the ability to passively heal, he also has a bash attack but can't use it against other Heroes which is why we don't see Arkantos go flying. This battle also appears to mark the transition into Hero units that appear in the campaigns so all recurring units from earlier on in the video are their Campaign versions (or scenario specific versions which I'll get into later if it comes up). 20:34 - 22:04 Chiron (again): Like as previously mentioned, Campaign version of Chiron. Only bringing this up as Campaign Chiron has a Triple Shot ability, it can't be used against Heroes though which is why I bring it up 24:55 - 25:32 Gargarensis (best hero IMO): Acts as the main antagonist of the Fall of the Trident campaign, has an ability where he picks up a unit and throws them away, felling trees and doing damage to enemy units. This ability generally kills all units who get grabbed unless Gargarensis is killed during the time he is grabbing the unit before throwing them away. Ability does not work on heroes 25:35 - 26:57 Kamos: Acts as a secondary antagonist in the Fall of the Trident campaign, has a gore attack which sends units flying and does a lot of damage. Does not work on heroes 27:05 - 28:57 Arkantos and Ajax (boars): They get turned to boars during one of the campaign missions, they turn back into humans later on in that mission. I personally enjoy the mission where this occurs because it's one of the missions that encourages early exploration and is a good mission to train in defense against rushes as the AI rushes you on all difficulties 30:48 - 31:24 Folstag Flag Bearer: While the Flag Bearer seems useless during this particular showing of him, he is actually incredibly useful in the two missions where he appears as a usable unit. For one, he has an incredible LoS (about as big as a Carrier Pigeon tower I think, if not a little bigger), and on top of the obvious high resistances to melee and ranged damage, he is also fairly quick as well, which makes him a useful scout 31:25 - 32:30 Regenlief: A named Valkyrie hero with a ranged attack, what isn't shown here is that she can heal allied units 32:32 - 32:42 Arkantos (Uber): A demigod version of Arkantos that you can get during the final mission of the Fall of the Trident campaign 32:43 - 33:10 Athena: While Athena is a literal god and has the stats to boot, for whatever reason the Devs didn't give her an attack animation so Arkantos could have ironically won if Mike was willing to record for that long. Can someone tell me if there's a reason in Athena's myths as to why they did that as I honestly have no idea 33:11 - 33:22 Theocrat: Yet another decision that baffles me, despite having stats that would allow him to have a ranged attack, Theocrat does not have an attack animation which means he cannot attack despite having stats to do so. (He should probably have melee attack stats given that he's got a sceptre but oh well) 35:00 - 35:10 Osiris: Another literal god, who smites Arkantos, nuff said. Also has a Chain Lightning attack 35:11 - 35:38 Circe: The reason why Arkantos and Ajax get turned into boars during the campaign mission I mentioned previously, attacks in a similar way to Osiris and the Son of Osiris but is different in the way that she runs away during the time that it takes her attack to recharge as it is marked as an ability due to how quick her animation is. 35:39 - 37:04 Kastor (Rise of the Titans campaign): Son of Arkantos, after the end of the Fall of the Trident campaign, Kastor is almost identical in terms of stats with his father, instead having 11 melee attack instead of 10 and having a throw attack where he throws units with his two swords. Similar to Ajax' bash attack 37:05 - 38:39 Queen Amanra (Rise of the Titans campaign): Identical in all ways to the Amanra that appears earlier in the video (she's from the Fall of the Trident), just a different appearance 38:40 - 40:05 Ajax (Rise of the Titans): Identical in all ways to his Fall of the Trident counterpart, just different in appearance 40:06 - 41:00 Son of Osiris (Rise of the Titans): Different to the Son of Osiris that appears earlier in the video, he appears right at the start of the scenario where he is needed. Main difference between this one and the one that appears earlier on is that this one can be healed 41:01 - 42:14 King Folstag: A more powerful version of the Frost Giant myth unit that the Norse get access to. Can freeze all units that are not heroes and don't fly, and I mean *all* units... 42:15 - 42:42 Krios: Same sort of problem as Theocrat earlier in the video 42:43 - 43:53 General Melagius (Lord and Master here!): An interesting case this one, he's the only other hero aside from Arkantos who can buff his allies in basically the same way that Arkantos does, by raising his weapon and screaming. As well as buffing his allies, the ability does chip damage to all enemies around him like Arkantos does. The only difference between the two that I know of is that Melagius' buff is actually worse due to the animation being longer, thereby forcing the buff to come in later 43:54 - end of video Arkantos (god): Basically the same as Arkantos (Uber) earlier on in the video except this time Arkantos is actually a god and his healing factor is even higher, which can't be displayed here. Whew, finally finished the video. Took a couple of hours to do all this but I feel it was worth it. Hello to the person who got this far through the comment :D
I think that also, in the map creator of Age of Mythology you can't give units all upgrades nor put them in the last age, which is big because some units, like the Hersir, are benefitted from that.
25:34 Kamos is by far my favorite campaign hero. A minotaur calf kidnapped by a crew of egyptian fishermen and raised by the goddess Bast. He lost a hand trying to hand-feed a leviathan and after that we saw him ride leviathans during the campaign, proving that he was successful as tamer in the end. Is unknown why he is so full of hatred and why he became the pirate leader and i would play and read everything about that. 100% best written character even if he is incomplete.
I never quite realized til now just how awkward Atalanta's attack animation is. She's kinda just flailing the spear around one-handed like it was a sword.
Greek mythology, probably. Because of Gaia, Zeus, Ares, Hercules/Heracles... But egyptian is a close second because Osiris is one of my favorite units.
Have to be in Mythic for all the non Greek heroes since they have lower stats in the first age, and priest maxes out in mythic. Also interestingly Theris is both a Hero and Myth Unit when it comes to upgrades and damage
Using isis hears my plea on skirmish brings the heros but no idea if they are all campaign versions or mixed, they seem to not take upgrades from smiths making them useless.

34:24 That looked like Theris. It has been a long time since you sent him to the Underworld, Arkantos? Fighting old battles again?

Dude that gave me nostalgia.. I’m bout to cry
One of my favorite "Who the fuck is that?" moment in AOM

More compelling than the main character - The underdo-.... The undercalf who would've been the hero in another tale.

I love when you speed up the "battle" and we can hear Arkantos's "Whaaaa" a little bit funnier :)
