With brand new products, sometimes issues arise once they are extensively tested. I'm betting that they will revise the design to eliminate these issues as a result. Good news, is the fish like them :)
They need to use thicker wire or stronger metal to attach the two parts together. I was going to buy one, but after seeing how thin and flimsy the wire is I'm gonna pass on this lure until they make improvement on it. Awesome action though!
I know that's weird... I've caught some monster stripers on the hellraiser and never had an issue. Still use the same one. Maybe your area got a bad batch of lures?? Maybe try setting your drag a little less?
Heavier wire might help, but reds are so strong. Perhaps if they went to a Titanium wire it might have more flex and last longer. Definitely a weak point. I still have several of the old Mann's Tidewater Walker top water crank baits. When the reds are willing the blowups on that bait are phenomenal. You can still get the 3/8 mid 1 minus that works well on reds.
I was wondering how much fun a Muskie hit on it would be……. But it’ll probably break… ashamed, I thought the wire would go all the way through the bait to the eye..could modify the bait but …
Hopefully ZMan will see this video and fix the issues so it won't break. It seems like snook would attack it but if it gets broken easily it's not worth it. As far as colors go, that look like a day for gold with the cloud cover. Too bad the gold one didn't last. Could it work by letting it sink and using a start stop retrieve or as a jig?
Nate, I know you throw a bunch of wakebait/topwater style baits but check out the megabass I-jack or I-loud propdarter. I’ve caught the tar out of bass on it but no trout, but it seems like a redfish killer after watching this vid
This is what what I was worried about. If they're going to charge 15 for it they should consider titanium wire (think old terminator spinnerbaits) and, potentially, carbon or some stronger material for the thin lip. Pure speculation on my part regarding the thin front lip, but it's why I was just kinda waiting to see some testing on the lure.
I am gonna try putting a little dab of modelers super glue where the wire comes out and see if that will give it a little better hold without affecting the action. Worth a shot!

One suggestion for you: When you are talking into the camera and trying to show your audience something, keep the brightest part of the horizon/sky in FRONT of you. @Southern Salt You do realize that the HellraiZer is not a saltwater lure. The HellraiZer was not designed with saltwater applications in mind, so that could be where some of the issues are that your experiences came from. With that being said the right set up in freshwater, you shouldn't have any issues.
Yes… yes I do realize it. I realize it so much that I stated just that several times in my videos with this lure. Just curious what you think the right setup would be? What setup do you think I’m using?
I don’t take it that way just want to see what you’re thinking. A light setup wouldn’t be able to deflect the lure, it’s to heavy. A medium would deflect it about right but a fast action would pull the hooks bad. The proper power rod per the weight of the lure is a med Heavy ( which is what I was using) the proper action per the style of lure is a moderate, this action is slow to load and has a very soft tip to absorb hard pulls and maintain even pressure through the fight (which is also what I’m using) My setup is a TFO tactical elite bass MH Moderate rod designed for top water bass fishing I felt that this would be the best setup possible for my application.
@@southernsalt I agree I don’t know how much more you could’ve done to set up for this lure. I was thinking lighter line but I don’t think that helps the issue being a cheap wire. Use the right rod and real combo and you won't have such a problem. Medium light moderate rod and back your drag off. Basically you are doing the equivalent of throwing a crappie jig on a flipping stick and expecting the hook not to bend out when you catch a big fish.
Lol a med light rod couldn’t even handle the deflection from the weight of this lure. I’m throwing a Med Heavy Moderate rod and drag was backed down a good bit.
