I’ve only heard that 4 chord progression in about 30 other punk songs. 🙄

There's only 12 notes available to any musician anywhere!

@@psypunk 12 notes in a scale gives an astonishing number of possible chord combinations. Add into that the various options on rhythm and there’s really no excuse to recycle the tired old 4 chord routine in this song yet again.

@@MR-um9ck Everything's been done before, even an "astonishing number" is finite. The beauty of punk is that it's supposed to be accessible to anyone and everyone, 3 chords and you're off. And they're using 4! It's not about musical genius, it's about just playing and having fun. Musical genius isn't unwelcome in punk, but it's not a prerequisite. You don't have to like the tune, but if the only thing about it you don't like is D A C G then there's more than 30 songs that you won't be able to like, and not just punk!

@@psypunk that’s an exceptionally overused chord progression though. I play in a punk band and we’d never tread over that tired old ground. It’s still very possible to write chord progressions which aren’t so common that they make people groan with boredom, lots of bands are still doing it.
Punk is also about not being boring, and I’m sorry but this is boring. Fresh ideas needed!
