Got to admit, was taught the old school ways of reloading but in the last few years my thoughts align more with yours now. Would love to hear your thoughts on seating depths. My 7mm08 seems to shoot good no matter the depth, other cartridges I've worked with seem to be temperamental to depth changes.
I understand this is Texas PH, but for us out here in Colorado, Wyoming etc, this 22cm in my opinion is even a bigger deal for us, with the speed goats (6mm), rock chucks, prairie dogs, and Coyotes at longer distances then 200yrds it's a definite advantage, great info thanks Wade.

Two questions, rifling preference 6 groove or 5R and carbon fiber or stainless barrel..(Coyote based) Getting a Pre-Fit barrel made for r700 action. Thinking 17” barrel length with a bull/heavy profile.
What’s a good standard break-in load with 88, 85.5, or 80 Bergers?

What powder are you guys using for your 75gr eldm 22 creed ammo?
Love hearing about your experiences with 22CR. Carbon ring can be mitigated based on how long you trim your cases. Put your brass in the chamber and use a borescope from the muzzle to see the space between the brass and where the lands and grooves begins. The thinner you can make the carbon ring the less likely it will hold together and start building up the ring thickness.
There’s actually an insert tool (Sinclair chamber length gauge) you put in a piece of modified brass and chamber. It gives you a very nice Measurement for trim length. They are available by caliber and made of something like soft leaded free machining steel probably to tolerate being chambered and seated, but to not damage barrels.
@@randallvann7390 That has nothing to do with carbon ring or how to mitigate it. That's just an inaccurate way to measure base to ogive. It's not very repeatable and it's based on finger pressure and how hard/fast you push the round in. There can be MANY thousandths difference between touch and jam. I've seen as much as 70 thousandths difference. Find jam, and subtract 20 thousandths, and you're at a safe starting point for seating depth. You'll still be "IN" the lands, but at least you'll be safely away from jam. Bullet jam is the only place where things be can become unsafe but jam is neck tension dependent. The more neck tension you have the deeper bullet jam you will have.
@@Rico11b I think you’re talking about a different tool. This tool has nothing to do with ogive. It’s used to measure the difference in book trim length, and your specific barrels actual neck length. It allows you to safely minimize the area of the neck not protected by brass, which should help minimize carbon ring. I think I found it on brownells? The Sinclair chamber length gauge. The whole point is it’s measurable. How would you accurately eyeball (in thousandths) that measurement through a borescope image? Maybe my borescope sucks
Just ordered a reamer. Can you explain bore rider reamer? Hoping this will help with carbon ring. I plan on 28 inch kreiger 8 twist. 80.5 fullbores. 4831sc peterson brass
What caliber action is best to start with? 6mm Creedmoor? Can I use a 6.5 Creedmoor action?
Hornady now makes ammo for 22 creedmoor i believe. i dont know if they have on sammy spec yet but i know they sell bullets and or dies and stuff to a company in Texas that makes 22 creedmoor barrels and build 22 creed riffle builds.
For general predator/varmint hunting in the Western USA = 6mm Creedmoor > 22 Creedmoor > 6.5 Creedmoor > 25 Creedmoor (Varmint projectiles)
In the upper midwest we like the 22 250, .223, 6 creed, .243, and 25 06
Alot of people around here wish there was a Sami 25 and 22 creed

I'll stick with my 220 swift and .223, will most likely go with 204 Ruger to add to the collection. 220 Swift with a faster twist rate will take anything. All hand loading of course

1-8 twist 70-77 and 22 inch barrel, building a 22 cred from a tikka action and a xcaliber carbon fiber barrel and clean every 50 rounds barrel and use my 308 suppressor.
For a general bullet weight I am building .22 Creed in a 18" Carbon 6 barrel 1-7 twist prefit(Howage) Low to high range in weight and bullet type for Coyotes and long range steel Thanks
What’s your thoughts on prefit barrels. A couple years ago I did a preferred barrels remage prefit 1/7 22 creed on a Remington 700. Loaded 39gr h4350 under a 88 eldm and it shot under half Moa. Haven’t done any other load testing since. Just works. Thinking of building another on a defiance tenacity with a 20in preferred barrel carbon fiber maybe 1/8 this time. I know some people turn there nose up at prefit vs gunsmith but seems like tolerances are so tight on some of these actions I don’t see much of a disadvantage, especially for the money savings of doing it yourself
Now days , with machining advancements prefits are a excellent choice. I’ve personally put together approximately 20 , 22 creed prefits alone. Never ran into any issues.
That said, do the research and make sure you understand what you are doing and have the correct tools.

Just watched the podcast, it was very informative. My question has to do with seating depth. How far off the lands is a good seating depth to start with? I run 80gr burger VLD's and H4350.

Hard to answer with all the varying chamber specs on 22 Creed. Best to have the Hornady OAL Gauge, and test that projectile specific to your chamber, see where it hits the lands, and compare to COAL/Mag fit. Takes a bit of tinkering.
Spade Dynamics has an amazing 22 creed ar he is a coyote hunter so varmit orientated!
I am considering an AR10 from DNA Firearms. Do you have any input on this rifle in 22 creed?

I am just getting into a 22cm. I have a 1-7 bartlien 25” long. Primarily just to shoot stupid fat with a 22 bullet. I’m braking in the barrel with 88 eldms because they are cheap. I will switch to the 90 Bergers once it’s broken in. I’m running 37gr of VV N550 @ 3145, I plan on staying in the 85-95 class bullets.

From the loading I have done so far 22/250 I like h1000&ramshot magnum.
H1000/88eldm/3200 no pressure so far.
Haven't had time to go farther.
Thanks for giving a 22-250 guy some insight on 22 creed. I’m a thermal night hunter always looking for something fast and flat, suppressed and as short barreled as possible. I have shots to 350yds and run 50gr vmax right now with no complaints but I’m interested when you talk about the heavier higher bc bullets out to 350+. What are some velocity numbers and bullet drop out of a 20-22in barrel with 70gr bullets? Thanks
Speaking in generalities don’t have notes infront of me. 3550-3600 fps , 200 yard zero probably roughly 3.5 “ drop at 350 , 9-10 inches at 400 , ish . Again don’t have my notes infront of me . Energy probably looking at 1200 ft lbs ish .
Best way to get some comparisons is take some of the velocity data I spoke about in podcast and plug it into a simple phone app ballistic calculator. Play with velocity expectations on barrel length and compare the two 250 and 22 creed.
Will do thanks. 1200 ft/lbs of energy would be a shit ton compared to the 50 grainers from the 22-250. I didn’t notice if you mentioned what 70 gr bullets you were using for coyotes? I’ve killed a pile of coyotes with the 50gr vmax at 3725mv and they always blow up in the cavity from 50-350. Do the 70’s seem to perform similar to this? If you don’t mind are they eldm’s? As mentioned above on the high end 70gr nosler rdf , once you start backing off of velocity the 69gr tMk , back off little more most of not all the 68,69 gr bthp are devistating internally.

Recoil is big thing to with creed being faster and flatter and less recoil than anything that try’s to match speed and flatness
Whats the best/favorite brass and how many firings are yall getting out of it and what's your favorite barrels?
Best brass I couldn’t really say, pretty relative to the end user and his or her wants and needs. The new Alpha ocd brass is my current favorite. How many firings t.b.d. How many firings someone gets out of brass is typically a biproduct of how hard they push it. Primarily. Barrel, probably gonna be a proof or BSF currently.
Alpha munitions ocd brass is hard to beat. Peterson is great also
Small or large primer brass?
What’s your guys’s favorite bullet between the 69 TMK, 75 ELD-M, 77 TMK, and 80.5 Berger? 1-8 twist.
For coyotes ? Just depends on barrel length and twist. Favorite all around , 75 eldm in the 1:8 twist. Long range stuff , bergers . 80’s, 85.5, 1:10 twist 69 tmks are up there for favorites.

Haven’t had any issues with the 22 creed Peterson I’ve tested on. For coyotes I like the eldms .
How do you come up with 22-250 =200 yard gun? Did I hear you correctly? Because before you answer I will say this, I have routinely killed whitetails at 252yrds with the 22-250 using 55grn remington psp or corelokt and barnes 50grn tsx bullets running between 3650 and 3750 fps. The reason for 252yrds is cause that's where the 🌽 pile is. Just wondering what you mean 200 yards. Cause I've killed coyotes almost double that. Oh one thing I want to mention is that the deer I have killed with it have been from 125to225lbs just n case your wondering about the size of the deer. Alot of people you tell this always say that my deer must be tiny.
As it pertains to yardages I assign to a particular caliber I base it on energy on target and a non ideal shot placement scenario, as well as trajectory. 200-250 yards depending on barrel length and projectile weight and construction. That’s the yardage it’s gonna be most ideal at.
I ran a 22-250 exclusively before the 22 creed, have dispatched a gaggle of animals at much longer ranges. Does it work with good shot placement? Absolutely, allot of calibers do with correct shot placement. I’m not attacking anyone’s preceded caliber , simply providing real world facts .
@@txpredatorhunting I wasn't claiming that you was attacking my cartridge, sorry if it seemed that way. But I gauge a cartridge by its performance on flesh and bone not what's on paper. That was all I was trying to say. On paper some look 100 times better than others but the end result is usually the same, dead.

No accurately . We’ve never been able to get any srp 22 creed brass, so I’ve yet to do any testing on it.

Honestly yes u save a little money and u can pick and choose what u want to run. But reloading isnt for everyone its harder to get primers these days. And most factory will always shoot sub minute if u buy the right shit. Wish i could re load but i dont see its worth
My first 22/250 was a 1/12 twist that didn't work for me
My second is a 1/8 twist Thompson encore custom barrel

Has anyone tried necking a 6.5 prc down to .224? I mean if the goal is super fast flat shooting 22 wildcats I don’t see why not.

Just depends on what you are wanting from it? I really like a 18” 1:8 running a 75 gr projectile at 3300 fps. For most predator hunting. You can lean on it harder , but I’d rather get a little better life out of it. And being it is a carbon ring caliber, it buys me a little more time if I’m getting near that must clean point. If your loading to bleeding edge, once you start getting in that carbon ring territory you’ll start blowing primers.

@@taylor2629 I’m not sure to be honest , I’d bet .170 ish doing some very sloppy measuring with a case gauge and flipping projectile around. I really like whatever it is though for 1:8 . We are actually talking with some smiths to try and do a in-depth project to really help with this question. We will see where I get with it.
HI I live in New Zealand and am a contract shooter of Wallaby, hares, pigs and deer so i shoot shi loads of animals and use a 22 250 AI, 22 250 and a 223. In the AI I am running super performance powder, or varget with 75 Sirocco Swift or Speer Gold Dot projectiles at high velocities and the AI works a charm, 24 inch 1 in 8 twist suppressed. Most of my work is using a thermal scope at night, taking deer (fallow, red and Elk) out to 400 m no problems and if they are further away stalk in is better as you have to retrieve them anyway. In the 223 I am running 60 grain V max for small game at only around 2900 f/sec and for deer hot loads using 62 grain Siroccos or Seirra 65 Grain king or 64 Game changer. 22 inch 1 in 8 twist in the 223. Re fireforming AI brass it is not a worry, when culling pigs or close range deer I just use unformed brass and a high load and accuracy is fine and the brass comes out great, no worries. Keep up your great podcast. I think the 22 250 AI might have a tad more velocity than a similar barrel in 22 Creedmore. Regards Paul Barton

K hold on. The 06 still the most versatile from a 110 to a 220 gran bullet. From performing like a 223 all the way up to a big brush gun. Not my fav round but proven more the most the 270 clones lol.

@@McDanielRanch just about the same is a bold statement. 6.8 western isn’t even the same bolt face. That’s a short action magnum cartridge . Now if you was to say the 6.8 western is a “clone “ of the 270 wsm . There is a valid point to that statement. 270 doesn’t even come close in performance to the 6.8 western .
Now the 6.5 creed , I actually deep dived this subject. If you go true apples to apples as I’m barrel length , bullet weight , etc. They are neck and neck to around 400 yards. After that bc takes over and the creed takes it over . With less powder .
All that aside the only similarities they share is they are brass cartridges that use propellent and primers to send a projectile down range.
Fact remains the 30-06 and 270 and others are centuries old cartridges that necessitate long barrels to utilize the cartridge powder capacity. And you are topped out at lighting projectiles due to over all length. They are old outdated , inefficient cartridges and nothing new is a clone .
I respect them and what they did. There’s just no room for them in modern ballistics.

For the most part yes, but I’ve seen some of the heavier options not be. Also depends on what animals we are talking about.
Not under 150 yards it goes so fast the bullet just explodes on impact. In my experience with a 204 I’d disintegrates prairie dogs on a level comparable to that of a 30-06
