Really surprised noone was aware of the comic this movie is based on. I feel good for anyone who enjoyed this or even any who had a profound experience but I had an almost religious experience reading the comic and because of that I just cant muster much for this movie.
Contentious review! :P I enjoyed the conceit of the movie and how play-like it was, but I can see why Davindra had an issue with the bloated budget for what they actually made here. Lots of fat on this one and I thought the black family story in particular reeked of tokenism, unfortunately. They had the least to do and seemed to be in the movie solely for the scene of them teaching their child how to avoid dying to the police. I wish they focused a little more on one or two families to properly give all parties a story to follow.
They really didn't need the black family all they could've easily cut them out and it wouldn't have changed the story plus the whole talk about the cop feels very forced as if no other families gets talks about cops just black families which is certainly not true
Can it be argued that Zemeckis has made just 5 good movies of the 14 or so he's directed in the last 30yrs (Forrest Gump, Contact, Castaway, Flight & The Walk)?
This discussion was refreshing and interesting to listen to, since maybe there is some value to Here with how divisive it is. For me, that's about all the value there was. Easily one of the worst scripts of all time in my opinion, absolute slog to get through and completely ugly to look at.
Just brilliantly said, Jeff. I’m pausing this at 7:43 to go and watch the movie.
I agree with Jeff about his career, Flight was an anomaly in a couple of decades where Zemeckis was (is) in love with creepy digital tricks.
This is a really cool idea for a movie. I’d say you should watch the Tree of Life instead….glad Davindra mentioned it
