I am 72 years old and my grandmother was from Lowdes County, AL.
We look upon this dark times for our ancestors in the abstract but it was as REAL as time we are living now.
We must remember this history so we can continue to make things right today and right for the future.

Thus museum and memorial sights are nothing short of spectacular! Our history is honored and captured here in such a beautiful, respectful, thorough way. I'm going back to see the new phase shown in this video asap!!

Thank you, Mr. Stevenson. These monuments stimulate thought, emotions and definitely bring about "reckoning" and "redemption." The visual truth telling wakes up my soul and stirs my spirit.

Slavery is the WORST of humanity. Hope their souls found peace where every they are.
Sadly it will not take long for some insensitive fractions to denounce or reduce this park to some twisted political agenda or latest buzzword.

Only those that struggle with the truth would have a problem woth this monument. We call the south the bible belt, and yet, we do not honor any of Jesus's teachings when it comes to truth or how we are to treat one another. Those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are bound to repeat those mistakes in the future. Until the words of our constitution are true for everyone in this country, there will be no forgetting or whitewashing of this horrific, immoral, and hellish period for those who suffered. America will only be great, when we are honest about this shameful period in our history, and it's devastating impact on people of color. Im praying for this nation, and all who are not afraid to deal with the truth.

This is an important landmark. It gives me hope that our country can collectively mature and come to grips with our past. I do hope the captions will be proofread, as they don't always match what is being said by Mr. Holt and the other gentleman.

Stop calling it critical race theory. It is not theory; it is history. Plain and simple. So let’s just call it that. American history.

There are so many monuments to race in the U.S. now, sometimes I feel as if it is causing more racial divisiveness than reconciliation. No one alive today was ever a slave or a slaveowner, and most "white" people today are not even related to one genetically. Slavery was also illegal in the North, where over 2 million Union troops fought to end slavery with many hundreds of thousands giving their lives.
To look at someone resembling 'white' in skin tone today and assign some sort of responsibility on them for slavery simply based on looks, or to claim you are owed something from another in compensation for your looks, is also very simplistic minded and racist.
I for one am so tired of races and wish we could all forget them and simply be Americans!

There are more than 1500 monuments and statues for the Confederacy in the US. I'm sure you recognize that there is nowhere near that amount of monuments "to race", but it is those that make you feel is causing divisiveness? Okay.
And please stop thinking that we think you owe us anything. Reparations is about a debt owed by the US gov't. Many of us do not think of the average Wht person that importantly, so breathe a sigh of relief.

      @@Musicball a red herring.
First of all, The Confederacy is, or was not a race.
But a statue honoring a skin color, IS racist.
And no it doesn't matter if its a statue honoring Blackness, or a statue honoring Whiteness. Its exactly the same kind of racism.
The degree to which you refuse to see that, is up to you.
As far as Reparations, where will this money come from? The government doesn't just have funds.... all of its funds come from taxpayers.
Therefore "Reparations" has to be forcing non-black people to give money to black people, because they are black.
      These are facts.
May I not discuss this UA-cam, since its brought up every day? Or are only the opinions, yes OPINIONS UA-cam has, the correct ones.

@@JasonHammond93 If I sell you to someone, would you consider yourself having been kidnapped by the people who purchased you? Of course you would. People who buy slaves are as bad as the people who sell them, which is why in the event you find yourself being sold, both the seller and the purchaser would be charged in the crime.

    • @JasonHammond93
      @JasonHammond93 4 місяці тому +1

@Musicball Firstly, enslavement was (and still is) a tragedy to mankind regardless of race. If your family history was always middle class or of lower status, the chances of at least one of them being a slave are high. The manner in which history is taught in our country is so politicized that it blurs the line between history and mythology.
I was helping my brother with his math homework when I noticed there was some trivia related to Benjamin Banneker. The only thing they mentioned were his accomplishments and rightfully so. That was in the year 2000. Nowadays, museums are fabricating his personal achievements simply because it fits a narrative.
Secondly, if I was born into slavery, I wouldn't consider it kidnapping because it would unfortunately be my way of life. If I weren't born into it, I would consider myself kidnapped
