It makes me so sad that I won't ever be able to attend something like this live ever again. Anyone who was in the audience, this would have been such a cathartic experience.
Filling the room with lots of sound and power chords is easy, but making it sound interesting and exciting with a few notes is something else. Love Slint.
Did anyone notice that this song is only a few seconds apart from being 8:50 long? That's incredible accuracy to the original song, especially considering they haven't really played with each other for an extensive period of time since Spiderland was recorded.
I somehow had heard these guys back in ‘95 (I was 15). I looked all over for their CD here in the states. New/used record stores weren’t able to order it (cause it was out of print if I recall)… I ended up in London visiting family and at Tower Records I finally found their self titled and Spiderland. Long time fan!
Great to see these guys playing again! I've listened to Spiderland as much as any other album in my collection and it's still unique and wonderful! Saw them live in 1990 (?) at University of Evansville (my hometown). They were about a year or two older than me.
Man I remember listening to spider land after my first breakup. WHAT A TRIP, that I'm still not done with. The girl has a child with someone else abd there's been other girls since then but my Lord I can still remember the first time listening to this 7 years ago
6thinkforyourself9 super late reply but britt was using 14" sabian aa rock hats, 16" & 18" paiste signature full crashes and a 21" sabian aa rock ride. you can find the whole gear list in the interview he made for modern drummer
Ok, now Brian McMahan is singing AND playing some guitar. Does anyone know why sometimes he's just singing/speaking and not playing the guitar at all, on some live songs?
+Antoine Gingras-Saint Louis I'd imagine it's just because his speaking vocals are arrhythmic. He probably can sing this one and play, while the others are more challenging because he'd have to play on beat with the band while speaking off beat. Some people can do it, but playing and singing is hard enough for some.
Nah, they actually just used to do solely Instrumental shows with the same material and they disbanded before Spiderland came out so i don't think they ever played with vocals before doing the more recent shows.
He puts to much emphasis on the first letter on some words, that's really odd compared to the the album version, does he always do this when they're live?
Could be the live audio mixing - but remember the studio album means its been gone over by a serious engineer and mastered. The quality of studio recording/mixing will always beat a live performance. The studio environment is much more controlled and many takes can be done of each instrument until the perfect take and balance is achieved. What is so uncommon about Spiderland is that the entire album was recorded in 4 days. That is incredibly short and stands as testament to the skill of the performers as well as the engineer at the time.
I don't get why they haven't made another album. I think they've got the talent to pull off another good album. It may not be Spiderland, but that's what happens with bands, they have a breakthrough album which they'll never pull off again, but they should still go ahead to make one.
I just watched the "Breadcrumb Trail" Documentary about Slint, and read the 33.1/3 book about Spiderland, and by those accounts the process of writing the music on Spiderland was intense, and basically a non-paying full time job. They were very young and had dropped out of college to make this music, I'm not sure if they would be able to commit to something so time intensive. I'm not sure If I would enjoy a half baked Slint album.
gasmaskboi19371945 Hate how the dumb uninformative comment has 8 likes. But I was thinking this after watching Breadcrumb Trails. I wouldn't even mind just an instrumental album too because I really like their EP. But it would be redundant at this point because Spiderland influence is already in a lot of Post Rock. Slint wouldn't sound as fresh or interesting. Also. They're out of their Slint prime years and have already moved on to new sounds. The hype wouldn't be worth it when you're trying to follow up Spiderland.
I remember Jon Cook from Crain (another Louisville band at the time) tried to get me to listen to Spiderland when it first came out, but I wouldn't because I was writing a paper. But when I did, I think I played it for a week straight. I think it's so cool that it went on to be so influential and appreciated. Don't wish another Slint album would have come out. For a lot of reasons, that was impossible. Even the reunion was a surprise. Instead, check out Rodan, The For Carnation, Papa M/ Aerial M, The Rachels, The Shipping News, June of 44, Evergreen, Hoover- jeez, I know I'm missing someone, sorry- all bands that came out of Slint. Also remember Slint came out of a supportive local scene and especially involved parents. Support your local scene, your neighborhood record shop, the clubs and venues. Get involved and watch a masterpiece come from YOUR town!
Okay, maybe they were on Xanax when they recorded too. Either way, they sound as if they are about to fall a sleep in this video. These guys make Radiohead look like Motorhead.
wormword spiderland came out in 91 radiohead's first came out in 93. there would be no radiohead without this. though radiohead is basically a sonic youth/ talk talk mash up. slint changed everything. i remember.
Best song on the album, imo. Wish I could've experienced this live
I like juice - Jens Kidman
I agree I like this song too
not to be harsh but imo it was kinda the only song on that album that was really a song and it was a banger.
Yeah
@@vincentserna4791 bro what
That snare...
It makes me so sad that I won't ever be able to attend something like this live ever again. Anyone who was in the audience, this would have been such a cathartic experience.
Oh my God...thanks for this. Slint opened what I would say "my 3rd eye in music", their music changed my life forever.
I would say that for Stereolab. They totally opened me up to different types of music. Mostly avant garde music.
Adrian Johnson Pajo was also part of Stereolab..
drumming is brilliant
Yeah listening to this guy play drums makes me want to go play drums myself.
Britt is a legend

They're playing to a click
Nope!
Spiderland was tattooed in these guys souls
@@InwardAdventure All of our souls.
if i remember the song second by second and note by note i can't see why how they couldn't
One of the most perfect songs ever written. Can’t believe this came out in 1991. The lyrics, the melody, interplay of the guitars, the dynamics….
👌
damn they're good live
This song's vibe gives me chills, I fucking love this band so much
So good. Incredible accuracy to the album
This show would have changed my life....
well you can watch it now anytime you want...
Nothing beats a live performance.
true.
Cain Fox you can't touch it, bitch!
Only you can change your life.
I cannot find words to describe how this song makes me feel pure

the snare is so simple but makes the song sound so beautiful.

now its 2021, holy shit
My favorite of theirs.:.feels like something very absolute and beautiful and loved coming to an end it’s almost a terrifying vibe
I have no words to explain how amazing Spiderland is.
The best concert I have ever seen in my life was a Slint reunion concert in 2004 in San Francisco
Best song of all time!

i don't understand why they're special than any other bands. even now. but they're surely so special to me.

Basically my soundtrack of the 90s. Others came and went, but Slint was permanent.😄

Hauntingly beautiful.
Build your church
On the strength of your faith
not faith its fears dude
actually fuck faith. fuck faith in anything
S.M. Butterscotch just believe in the truth. Don’t just make shit up and believe it without any evidence or proof.
@@douglasfeldman4079 you know the song is not about religion and the whole faith/church is a metaphor right?

i can’t tell if it’s just the recording quality being bad but the snare sound sounds wayy worse than it does on the studio version

Quin Hartley So they shouldn't be musicians, as they are, and make more music?

This is a beautifully haunting ballad, not a song you listen to while running.

This song is emo and you can NOT convince me otherwise
Yeah I'm sure they had "emo" in mind when they wrote this song.
because emo was definitely a thing in 1991 bro...
Rites of spring, embrace, jawbreaker the entire DC emotional hardcore scene that had been going on since the mid 80s.
i think this is more slowcore-ish
