This controller looks awesome. It's probably what the FS1R should have looked like. Unfortunately, it's a 1U rackmount unit with a cryptic display and tiny buttons. It doesn't even have a scroll wheel. So experimenting directly on the FS1R is incredibly frustrating, as you have to step through dozens of parameters and menus to tweak your sounds. Of course, in real-time, it's near impossible. That's a real shame, as this video shows how powerful it can be when you have proper controls for it. Fortunately, the FMX engine on the MODX and Montage are also 8-op FM synth engines that do nearly everything that the FS1R does, but have a much friendlier interface. The only major things that they are missing are the formant filters for vocal-like sounds and the formant chains for short words and phrases.
I’ve owned a fs1r for a few years never used it much. I have sounddiver but I’ve been to busy to commit time to it. This controller would be unreal. Were you the one who made this controller? I saw it on a fs1r Facebook group a few years ago.. I think the guy was taking orders and was going to build a few of them??
Hi @kuphser , this controller was built by Robert Skerjanc and this is his prototype, used in the promotional videos. I was lucky to get it by ordering. He built about 5 controllers but stopped it due several reasons (time/costs). It’s incredibly deep in its modulation opportunities, almost unpredictable in the output if you change the parameters OP1-8, voiced, unvoiced, the algorithms, the formant sequence, the FM knobs and Filter.. etc.. I am still scratching on the surface.. 🙏thx 4 always passing by.. DACHI
Awesome! 🙌🙌
Thank you John..
What a great controller. What would have happened if Yamaha had delivered the FS1R with a such great controller, like Roland did with the JD-800?
.. if… then.. FM Synthesis might be today‘s core technology for sound designers ?!

you are so right in your analysis.. thx for passing by 🙏🎶
