  • Here's my experience on installing a new headliner in my "Modified" 1965 Mustang.
This video is my personal experience, individual results will vary. This was my first time ever replacing a headliner!!
Removing was pretty easy, since all you gotta do is cut it out. only precaution was making sure the bows stay in place on the roof.
all materials used were purchased from CJ Pony, except for the spray adhesive for the insulation and the sound deadening barrier.
In this video i had several things that needed to be fix with the headliner: door and windshields weather stripping, and front windshield glass.
I used POR15 on the roof and in the windshield channels to further protect the integrate of the metal. Over all I'm pleased with the results, even though it didn't come out perfect.
Here is a list of things from my experience that might help you and make your install:
    (1) get someone to help you! you don't have to, but an extra set of hands is greatly appreciated. (2)use clamps to help hold headliner along with the cut pieces of windlace. (3) The can of spray adhesive can be used after the insulation for the sail panel area (B pillar) and to use on areas where the headliner glues doesn't take. (4) reinstall hardware (screws) for rear view mirror, sun visors, coat hooks, and dome light before you install new headliner. That tip/trick can be found at time stamp: 14:06 to make reinstalling earlier!! (5)*if not equipped and you want this, run the wiring and install a dome light. I wish i would have thought of that before i installed the headliner, disregard previous statement if your doing a full-on restoration. (6) adding some sound deaden material before installing headliner help reduce sound.
I hope this video helps you out in your repair.

For the roof rails, it took me a while to figure it out. I got the weather stripping out to expose the screws. Took out all of the screws and started at the very bottom toward the dash and worked it loose from the adhesive with a small knife. Then I was able to VERY SLOWLY pull on it and it started to separate slowly but surely and the longer it went, the easier the adhesive released, almost like it gained momentum. Patience is key so you don't bend the roof rails. Probably took me an hour to learn and execute on the drivers side. After I learned, passenger side only took 5 minutes. Hope this helps someone in the same predicament. I haven't installed the headliner yet. I'm a ways a way from that, but good video and tips. Thanks.

Get yourself a couple of cheap can openers from the grocery store. Use the flat end (bottle cap side), apply some tape to the can opener ends and hook them under the bottom and pry up. Those stainless moldings will come up with no problem. Start at one end with the two can openers about 4" apart and move from one end to the other. Gets them off in no time!

      Mac's 65 Mustang restoration it’s been a 🙃crazy,🤪,busy😅year.
Can’t wait to see your progress.
I’m a lot further along than this video. I’ve been able to drive and take a few small roads trips in mine. Trying to get it broke-in and all the bugs worked out. Exterior paint will be the last thing.
Are you going to upload an update soon?

I got the headliner insulation from CJ Pony.
Yes it was flexible and It didn’t have any issue staying with the contour of the roof after using spray adhesive. 👍

It has come a long way for sure and hopefully some good road trips are not far away. How’s everything going up North? It’s been so hot here. I ready for some cooler temps so I can get out and ride. I really enjoy your atv videos. 🏴‍☠️
      Thanks for the complaints Danny.👍
