Artisan News has unearthed a 2004 rare interview with the late Leslie West of Mountain, who passed at age 75. He talks about his book Nantucket Sleighride, the magic behind Mississippi Queen, and how he got his signature sounds among recollecting his career highlights. We'll miss you Leslie.

In late May 1977, I was sitting on an airplane in Charleston WV when a bunch of guys in ripped jeans came down the center aisle. Then I noticed a well dressed man in a three piece suit. As the man walked past me, I realized it was Leslie West. He signed an autograph for me on a slip of paper. In 1987, I arrived late at the Bayou nightclub in Wash. D.C. Leslie's All Stars had already played. I was on second floor balcony looked next to me and there stood Leslie and I talked to him again. In early 2000's, Leslie and Corky were playing Jaxx nightclub in Springfield, VA. First, let me say that two 100W full Marshall stacks will leave your ears ringing. After the show, Leslie sat at a table and signed autographs for fans.

I seen mountain early 70s then one day we wete in mannys music store. .NYC . Leslie west cones in . and. we di dnt want to bother him . now I regret a chance to speak to him .
