- Well we are continuing the New Year in a somewhat surprising spectacular fashion! We found ourselves doing a spot of Path Larking (due to particularly high tides) as well as mudlarking and discovered something very unexpected but absolutely amazing!!!!! An object that may have been lying there for over 300 years. It may or may not have come from the consequences of a battle very close by! Come with us to see what we found and also some of the other very historically interesting artifacts discovered along with it, one of which could be connected to Charles Dickens also!!!
We have a patreon page for anyone wishing to support us.
We also have a Ko-fi account, so if you wanted to support us by buying us a metaphorical cup of coffee it would be greatly appreciated xx

#MUDLARKING
Alright so that's why you’ve found a golden nib... these traces of history that you create... we love. Another way that you put pieces together and sew... thank you, as always. Well done Sunny cat✨💛
An enjoyable adventure! Beautiful bead and interesting tale of the Charles Dickens friends button! 🤗❣️👍🌸
your cat is lovely thank you ladies wonderful video
Sunny brightens my day. He is a reminder that love is most important, feeling happy and working hard to make others feel happy is the best thing you can do in life, and using technology to spread your message of joy is a gift. All 3 of you are nailing it! ❤❤❤❤
Safety goggles could help a treat. Having lost my beloved father in Sept 2021, the UK Mudlarking community has helped me immensely. Thank you so so much. All I need now is a teleporting machine that I can jump into so that I can join you 😂xx Teresa ❤🇦🇺
We are so sorry for the loss of your father xx
@@MudlarkingWithKitCaboodlers Thank you so much. With my love for history, living vicariously through a mudlark is ideal - it gives me so much joy. Thanks again xx Teresa ❤🇦🇺
Rayban sunglasses make things very clear when the sun is in your eyes. I love mine. Well, see you next week.
sounds funny, but what about safety goggles (chemistry), or even swimming goggles? Oh, wait a sweet pair of steampunk goggles ;)
Wikkid idea
I was thinking the same thing would protect your eyes from the side as well.
I was just about to suggest that
That is what I was going to suggest.
That’s what I was going to say! Cool beans. Great minds think alike.😁
You ladies facinate me. I could watch you all day. So very special. I enjoy the history lessons too. Thank you so much.
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you :)
Miss Marple discussed the language of flowers in one of Agatha Christie's stories, referring back to her Victorian youth.
When Charles Dickens was in Boston USA, he visited the house of his American publisher, William D. Ticknor. That house was just up the street from my childhood home in Boston, so I claim a connection to Dickens - we walked on the same sidewalk - and thus, a connection, however very tenuous, to your bead.
And good to see that Sunny cat got his toes cleaned. Very important!
Charles Dickens did get around haha :)
Great finds 💖 Interesting information you shared regarding the very old bead you found too. TFS Happy Mud Larking for treasures. 😊 Have a great weekend
You proved “it’s the journey (pathway), not the destination (mud)” - love kitty ❤️
Brilliant haha :)
"Path of Dreams?" Lol! Beautiful bead!
Yes, they have some very stylish safety goggles. I think they would work wonderfully for you. 🥰
Hi Kate, Mum you could try wrap around amber safety glasses, amber will make things brighter on overcast and dull days. XX
Brilliant and quite amazing treasures found on this mudlatk ladies. What a brilliant path to walk and find that extraordinary bead. That was certainly waiting for you to find it. Well done. X
Very interesting finds and loved the history behind them. Who knew Charles Dickens was so popular and renowned for unknown history facts. Xxx
Who knew :)
I think all your finds are Sunny approved! And mine.
A cap with a bill brim, like Northern Mudlarks, might help with windy tears. Neat finds! Such a wildly fine bead!
The Path of Possibilities! What fun!
Optical dark glasses- me too with the tears!!!! Nan from Florida
Hello am I third! Love these girls xx. Something of the famous five about them especially wind swept Kate . Lashings of ginger beer xx
Xxx
:) :) :)
Some serious side hustle that Holmen! Thank you for sharing.
I do enjoy watching you fine ladies find lost treasures!❤
Opticians have glasses with clear lenses which are used for display, so you must be able to get prescription free glasses? Lovely finds! Xx
Great day great finds
Can't have a round up without Sunny. ❤
What a nice way to start the year.
Beads, beads the most wonderful jewels. The more you find, the more I drooled xp eheheh
:) :) :)
Kate, clear safety / workshop glasses with side shields would probably help a lot and being clear, no prescription, frame come in all shapes and sizes.
I also have very sensitive eyes and have found vented aviation goggles to be just perfect, my own are prescription. I do many out door activities in addition to my employment as an automobile traffic control specialist, known in the States as a flagger. The venting keeps steaming to a minimum and allows for air circulation in a very controlled manner. They at least in my case help control glare as well, as the sides are polarized.
Carry something to block the wind off of you. I use an umbrella to block both the sun and the wind. If it is to windy for an umbrella, it is to windy for me.
My late father used to say to us ( my x4 sisters and a brother) " when in town keep your window down " meaning to look around all the time as you can miss small things
Brilliant! :)
Just finding artefacts of any kind brings the treasure hunting dream. I really like your "spectacular fashion", it is always a fun one!! The Dutch coin, what an amazing find, and so close to home!!!
My suggestion for young Kates eye problems are just a pair of good quality photochromic sunglasses. They cut down air and wind circulation and are light sensitive and will adjust from completely clear to dark sunglasses according to how bright the sun is. They aren't expensive and can look pretty cool
So lovely findes
Kate what you might look into getting for your eyes are clear motorcycle glasses. They look like sunglasses but they are clear! You can even get them with a thin spongy material around the inside of the glasses to help block wind getting into your eyes. We use them all the time when riding, especially at night if we don't have our helmet on.. Keep the wind and bug out.
What an absolutely wonderful find. The little pottery pot! Love it 🥰
Sunny cat , so funny cleaning his toes on Fleur's time to talk about her extroidernary bead, how can you concentrate haha
Really enjoyed watching that especially the cat cleaning its toes lol xx
Fantastic! Fantastic! Wonderful finds ladies. It boggles the mind to think you found such wonderful finds stuck in a pathway. I would stick to the Dickens story- fingers crossed.
Thank you we like to think big haha :)
Thank you we like to think big haha :)
I love that mourning button!
Wear clear swim goggles. They fit tightly and keep out the wind.
I do enjoy your videos and your very soft comforting voice thanks for the great video
Amazing finds. Love how Sunny has to clean his whole body! Cats are so funny.
My eyes do that on a windy day ( water ) , always have and I always worry that people will think I’m crying but I’m not because it’s just the wind blowing in my face or whether it’s too cold / freezing . I do suffer with hay fever as well .
These videos are so peacefull :) Thank you
Glasses with clear none Perscription lenses - you can also get sides on the arms like blinkers 👍🏻
Aviator glasses would be ideal. A bit steampunk, and rather cool rather than just safety glasses or swimming glasses. Though any of the above will do as well.
My eyes are super sensitive too Kate. I wear sunglasses or sometimes a peaked hat helps especially if you are looking down a lot. My Mums eyes are so bad she's had to wear sunglasses indoors! But thats more dry eye issues. Fantastic finds ... Super exciting 🌼🌸🌼
What an absolutely amazing find! Not only is it a gorgeous bead but it has such an interesting and valuable history behind it! ✨🙌
It blew us away when we found it haha :)
My eyes have the same problem. Even brite sun makes mine pour. I have not found a solution unfortunately. Sunglasses help. Wish I could help. Great video!
I loved your video. It's fun to share in your excitement.
I just love Sunny cat
Great hunt... looked like a lot of fun 👍🎩⛏
Maybe fancy swim goggles or biker goggles, or antique flight goggles? I think your excitement at least made you forget your eyes for a bit! I'll never get tired of watching you both find those great little things.
Thank you :)
@@MudlarkingWithKitCaboodlers You are very welcome.
Try a pair of clear safety glasses the wrap around kind & put one of those eye glass holder / bands on the ends so they'll hang around your neck for when you don't want to wear them .. but don't want to lose them either !
A lovely bead very cool. Happy New year...VIC...
Happy new year! :)
Glasses with a plain lens. Really cheap off ebay. Loads of styles. Love the vlogs...keep them coming. Forget me not....its in the name xxx
My mother always walked and worked outside in one of her cloth sun bonnets. She made her brims deeper and fit closer around her face; and, she kept those brims stiff with starch. You may see an example of an old fashion bonnet in the ads for Blue Bonnet Margarine. "Everything better with Blue Bonnet on it." You both would look very nice in old fashion sun bonnets
I imagine Kate would love to wear a bonnet! :) :)
Awesome dive and awesome finds, i was going to say the same thing as Dream weaver you can get them as sun glasses in Australia too as well as clear safety glasses, good luck hon. Take care and stay safe and well 👍👏🥰❤️
Congratulations on your best bead (Medway) find ever!!! 👏 😀😃🙂🙃😊
Thank you :)
Love your finds. Sunny does a thorough job on his toes! Love!
Kate, Fleur, your theories on the bead and button are very, very plausible. Lovely finds as was the little green bottle. Kate, on those windy days maybe a pair of wrap around glasses would help? Ian and Sue, Australia
Thank you! :)
I didn't read all the comments but I see some people saying safety goggles. I have a tip and I have actually done and do this when at the beach on windy fall and winter days. I wear goggles that people who ride motorcycles wear (or motor bikes...whatever you call them over there.) They make them to fit tighter than safety goggles because they are meant to protect you from the wind flying in your face. They make ones that are clear and mine are even ones that have interchange lenses! You can pop in the sunglass lenses (which came in several shades) or the clear lenses with ease. I wish I could remember the name of them but they are out in my snow covered car right now. Check Amazon! Good luck and they make all the difference between seeing and not!!
I know one beachcomber that wears ski goggles to prevent eye watering !
Kate, perhaps clear goggles? The kind with the little ventilation holes on the sides so they don't fog up. Just a thought.
Kate,
Maybe if you use some safety glasses that are closed in around the eyes, it might help.
I use GenTeal Tears Gel in my eyes. It coats, sooths and protects. Also you can get wrap around glasses that will block the wind without affecting your treasure hunts.
Hi Kate, to help your eyes stop watering on a windy day you could use sunglasses with Driving Lenses, as they don’t darken your vision like ordinary sunglasses. Hope this helps. Another great episode - as always!
Clear goggles for the wind.
My mind boggles at the thought of all the lost and discarded beads that are loose in the world. Beads must be one of the first things humans ever made, they are so basic to humankind.
Yes I strung beads for 25 years I really can’t believe it myself but I do love my glass beads
an archeologist in new mexico told me that red ant mounds are a great place to look for beads, which indicate prehistoric human presence. red ants are very large and aggressive creatures whose gravel mounds are around 3-4 feet across
Beads are wonderful little pieces of history and you are right the mind does boggle to think how many must be lying around!!!!
Glasses, goggles, artificial tears?? Love your enthusiasm and that this is something you do with your mom. Thank you for sharing.
One of the episodes from Rosemary and Thyme also talk about the meaning of different flowers.
With all the beautiful beads you have found I would place the ones you know the history of framed in a shadow box with the date and what they are written under them. Display them to enjoy. That's definitely a productive path. I enjoy both of you laughing 😃. It shows you're enjoying what you do. Thanks 😊
We are thinking of making a miniature museum in a glass case :)
@@MudlarkingWithKitCaboodlers that would be awesome
You can get clear safety glasses or goggles for very cheap here in the US at the dollar store. My mom who's 95 wanted to know why I was keeping my "my clear lense sunglasses" instead of throwing them out. I told her because I use them when shooting at targets for eye safety. Love your videos and as always love to see Sunny cat. :)
Idea. Take a safety pin with you to put the small beads on when you find them. Should keep them safe in your pocket. :)
Those finds are amazing. What a great start to the year. I hope Kate finds a solution for the eye sensitivity.
Thank you :):)
Your giggles light up my day!
SO wonderful!
Clear safety glasses might work
Lovely finds … and a clean cat! 😉😁
Hi Kate have you tried the safety glasses you can get some really good ones that are quite deep frames and have side shields to stop the wind getting you from the side or you could maybe try motorcycle goggles. It's awful I know the wind makes my eyes stream too especially when it's really cold . Love to you all. 😘😘😘❤️💜💖
Your giddiness is infectious 😊❤
😊 thank you
What incredible finds from that path. How lovely that you found such a treasure of a bead and lucky for the bead and it's history to land safely in your hands to be preserved for the future. It was meant to be! Hopefully the Medway FLO can help identify it further and confirm your theory of it being part of the Dutch invasion. I can see you making the local paper with this. So happy for you and really enjoyed your film especially as I grew up in Kent and your find your history snippets very interesting as feel like it is a part of my own history.
I too have always suffered with watery eyes (riding a pushbike is nigh impossible as I have zero visibility). Like others I would suggest clear aviatian style glasses to block the wind. You can also tackle the cause of the watering by applying a clear pure gel or oil drops to put on the eye surface (Xailin Gel- used for contact lenses or Hycosan Extra drops) which will protect the surface of your eyeball from the wind and thus reduce the need for your eye to water to protect it. Thanks again for another lovely video. Jeanette
Thank you Jeanette :) :)
I wear carpentry goggles sometimes for my work. They’re like plastic glasses with sides on them. Very affordable, though not very fashionable.
A pair of swimming goggles to stop the wind. Or safty glasses.
You could try wearing safety glasses as they are clear and are meant to protect the eyes of industrial workers.
Hello from Ohio! I like to wear clear safety glasses doing this type of things, it seems twigs, flying bugs etc. are attracted to my eyes lol. You should be able to purchase from hardware store.
My optometrist suggested that I try fish oil (by mouth not in your eyes), to make my eyes less sensitive. And some eye-drops for hay fever when my eyes are very teary. Yes I have wind tears, and fish oil helps, but it takes up to 3 months to get the best results form taking fish oil.
Those old rustic small bottles are my favorite!
We love them too :)
I love your kitty cat as well well as your channel. Can't do mudlarking where I live though. My kitty cat passed away in November I am still grieving for the loss of my little mate.
We are so sorry to hear about the loss of your cat! We know how hard it is xx
Kate you should wear some protective glass of the hug around ized you'll still be able to see you won't have that issue
Oh, Kate! I never thought to find anyone else who tears up ,as I do, out in the wind! I get strange looks but no hints to prevent this. But, you have exhilarating treasures, and the lovely stories created for them! Love to Sunny...😸
Kate,. You have dry eye and the wind makes it worse. There are eye drops to fix it.
You could try some type of safety glasses they fit your face to keep most of the wind out.
yes clear goggles!
Motorcycle glasses can block harmful rays without darkening. they also block wind and cold.
Hi, from BARCELONA SPAIN 🇪🇸 Andrés Iturria 🇪🇸😎👍
I need to follow the paths you two take, lol. Impossible because I live thousands of miles away. Great video and finds.
:) :) :)
Kate, I have hazel eyes which are also very light sensitive 🥺. I have to wear sunglasses 🕶 😎 all year round, even in winter because of the snow ❄ which is too bright for my eyes 👀. I have purchased "night vision" sunglasses, which when worn at night, decreases the glare of lights etc yet allows one to see in the dark...so you can drive with them on. I know you said you aren't fon of wearing sunglasses, but didn't know if you'd tried the ones I spoke of 🤔? It sure beats teary eyes all the time! 😀
Kate has seen your message, thank you :)
@@MudlarkingWithKitCaboodlers and?
Hey Gretta Girl, Thank you for the information, sorry to hear you also suffer with sensitive eyes!
I think I’m going to try some clear glasses with sides, as that should stop the wind, but if they don’t work I’ll try some night vision sunglasses! Thank you 😊
@@grettagirl2884 I think Kate is going to try clear glasses to start with and see how they help.I think she is quite excited at the prospect of choosing some (she does love to accessorise haha) :) :)
Safety glasses might help, the kind on a strap that fit like scuba gear.
