Real Madrid play with teams that park the bus every other weekend. Carlo knew he couldn't win if he played offensively, he learned from last year. Took note from Arteta's draw vs city and controlled the game by giving up the ball and forcing city to play through the wings and go nowhere or shoot from the distance with less risk. Actually, if Lunin hadn't made that mistake in Madrid conceding the first goal, there would've been no need for extra time and penalties.

They were mostly generated from small mistakes by Madrid. I remember Man City parking the bus against Atleti after being up a goal and no one complained. Man City scored the same amount of goals as Real Madrid over both legs. Madrid put up a 90s Italian defensive masterclass. They won the pen shootout because of Rüdiger, Kepa and Lunin, they won on a tactical level. Madrid dominated both legs by scoring early and taking the lead or scoring quick after Man City scored. Man City never led in the tie for more than 10 minutes, over 2 matches. They were constantly chasing the score whilst Madrid when scoring were able to defend their lead for way longer. Madrid were actually better offensively for scoring goals with less chances and defensively for not allowing to be scored against despite City's posession. I was celebrating Man City and Arsenal losing but most people would predict what they predicted (Carragher did say PSG and Bayern). The Man City v Real Madrid match was ‘backs to the wall’ for Madrid for most of it with all their players in their own third but that is why we love football and sport in general - nothing is decided before the match.
@@Elphin89 Ye Real Madrid fans and players are happy and Man City fans aren’t. The manner of the victory is important too, but when you cannot match a team the only way to play is deep and compact and hope for a goal on the counter-attack. Ancelotti is the master at it.

why? were you happy with your teams performance in the 120 minutes? besides defending well, they got cooked. Derby County can beat you on penalties if they are lucky enough. Today, it was Madrid who were lucky.

I personally agree with Thierry Henry. Many people just don't understand how football is played in such high level. Football isn't always about attacking but defending too. City has its own play style (short passes, controlling the ball), and RM relied on solid defence and fast counterattacks. At the end, the team that won is the best.
@@blank1933 Players require composure to excel in penalties. Thus RM players proved they have better composure than City players. So, penalties does dictate the better team.

That is crazy to say Jamie that it’s not the best team in Europe that doesnt win the champions league since Man city ( the favorites to win it from ENGLAND ) was knock out from it today
I mean he's correct in a sense. A league season and knockout games are different. Knockout games you just need to never make mistakes, defend amazingly and do that for 180 minutes and do that for 2-3 legs before winning the final 90 minutes. A league you can't just play brilliantly for that amount of time and still win the league. There have been countless upsets in CL (Villareal, Lyon, Dortmund) where they were better in the 180 minutes played but arguably a worse team on paper to their opposition. Heck look at the team when Chelsea won it. They beat world class teams but you wouldn't say (on paper) that Chelsea is a better team than Barcelona or Bayern or Real Madrid
EPL teams don't know defending, that's why they are talking about all this "modern football" nonsense and about the "right way to play football" nonsense. Notice how the supposed modern gks can't save a shot, defenders can't defend, defensive midfielders are praised for being good on the ball rather than defending and then they want strikers and attacking midfielders to defend, they are demanded to track back, remember Ozil? Just recently they wanted a 38 year old Ronaldo to press more and defend from front and track back. It doesn't make any sense.
I feel Valverde gave that extra support to Carvajal. Start of the game, Carvajal was really struggling to keep up with Grealish and Ancelotti immediately kept Valverde on defensive duties and that kind of killed Grealish's momentum and Carvajal ever did so well to complement that support.
"Defending is part of the Game". Thierry Henry is absolutely right there. In reality, Real Madrid had a tactical approach towards the game that led to their victory. While we can say the same for Manchester City, their approach ultimately failed. Real Madrid adapts their playstyle based on the game’s progression. For instance, at the start, their mindset was not solely focused on defending until they scored a goal. As the game progressed, they played differently. Real Madrid has always been clinical, and in football, results matter. Looking at the match against Bayern yesterday, one might think they had already lost.
How biased can these guys be? You're telling me a side that has made it to the UCL final 12 out of the last 14 seasons are often lucky? They do what is needed to win and today they did so

Dude “the team that wins the champions league is not necessarily the best team in Europe”???? Then, who the heck is? If u can’t eliminate the champion league winner in two different occasions, then you might not be the best one, just assume it. It’s not all about stats
The logic is that the Champions league is a cup competition, so there's the luck of the draw and one mistake and your team could be out. The way to establish a true "best team" is to play a league system competing against all the teams over several months.
The best team plays the best football obvioulsy. Real were thouroughly dominated and parked the bus for 110 minutes. Well dont to them tho, everybody hates city 115
That was a defensive master class from Madrid. You have to respect that, they put everything on that field. These pundits need to learn football. Every champion, in any sport is marked by their ability to defend. Defence wins you titles.
they are forgetting that RM is a wholesome team and every player including the forwards defended like defenders as If their life depended on that.. all staying within formations.... the commitment has no parallel.
The one thing people tend to forget about Real Madrid is that they learn from their misstakes, if you you manage to beat them once, and try to do the same again, in the same way, well history have shown that 9 times out of 10 you will loose. I mean come on, this is the team with 14 CL titles, they are the ones that Won 3 back to back CL titles not to long ago and 4 CL in total in 5 years, heck they have players in the team today that have 5 CL titles of their own. Experience, thats what Real Madrid has, something clearly City lacks, and today it cost them. Its funny that most of the guys in this panel sed that Arsenal and City would go through, well look where we are. City had plenty of chanses and did not score, you give Real Madrid half a chance, they score. I think its Pep himself sed something in line, If you want to win the CL, you have to be in the shape of your life, play good, score alot and somewhere on the way beat Real Madrid :) Dont quote me on that last one haha.
That’s the problem though. You can never beat Madrid. It’s our competition. Hala Madrid. They were evenly matched. To be fair. On paper the only team to eliminate them is each other.
experience is the key word. Real Madrid has far more of it than Man City. We all know that Man City are recent UCL regulars. Give them time. Surely in 5 to 10 years time, this fixture will be 50/50 contest.
The way madrid defended was something similar when they went against bayern 6 or 7 years ago in the semifinal of that year, and at that time guardiola was coaching bayern if im not wrong so yeah they knew how to control a counter attack of that kind but what makes it even interesting is that its not that same players that played back then so nor coach so well done to madrid on defending the whole game and keeping doing the same defensive ways as back then , players adapted very well on it , city was great counterattacking but yeah alot of people knew that those penalties were a game changer and it favorited madrid at the end
Especially when our players were getting tired and stopped closing down early, Man City didn't even try to shoot from distance. Lunin always does that little jump before diving to either side. Time the shot right, and you can catch him off guard. Surprised that they kept passing to the ones in the flanks even when they were presented with some space, especially Rodri. Henry!! Spot on!! Defending is part of the game
I personally agree with Thierry Henry. Many people just don't understand how football is played in such high level. Football isn't always about attacking but defending too. City has its own play style (short passes, controlling the ball), and RM relied on solid defence and fast counterattacks. At the end, the team that won is the best.

@@abmnueveExcept he is, because Real Madrid just beat Citeh. COPE.

Defending is part of the game 💯
EPL teams don't know defending, that's why they are talking about all this "modern football" nonsense and about the "right way to play football" nonsense. Notice how the supposed modern gks can't save a shot, defenders can't defend, defensive midfielders are praised for being good on the ball rather than defending and then they want strikers and attacking midfielders to defend, they are demanded to track back, remember Ozil? Just recently they wanted a 38 year old Ronaldo to press more and defend from front and track back. It doesn't make any sense.

Carvajal what a game. Kept up with grealish speed and a fresh fast Doku. The goal was due to the valverde 1v1 with Doku
Actually it was Rudigers bad clearance that led to the goal.

If KDB scored the 2 nd shot from 8 M Henry would of spoke different

The logic is that the Champions league is a cup competition, so there's the luck of the draw and one mistake and your team could be out. The way to establish a true "best team" is to play a league system competing against all the teams over several months.

Man City just proved that passing the ball side to side and having 1000% possesion does not make you the best team. Creating chances and winning does.
Especially when our players were getting tired and stopped closing down early, Man City didn't even try to shoot from distance. Lunin always does that little jump before diving to either side.
