- In this video we will look a bit closer that hidden gold from CD / DVD players. it's easy to spot laser diodes but hard to notice those tiny IC's because you hardly see that gold with your naked eye.
I always take the laser diodes and IC chip from CD and DVD players. I think most folk snap the steel or aluminum cover off the end of the laser diode. I don't know if doing so disturbs the gold bond wires below or not. Some diodes are stuck in the alloy barrel. Generally, I cut / crush it open and pull the diode out. The alloy barrels and carriers are usually aluminum or zinc. Sometimes, there's copper shields around the laser device. The motor shaft driving the laser head is usually brass or nickel plated brass. Sometimes, the amber ribbon cable has gold plating on it. A good video. First time I've seen someone use a microscope to reveal gold bond wires. That's neat!
thanks. usually those gold bond wires stay hidden inside those caps, i just wanted to reveal what's underneath them.
