In the early days of the metro, a full MR-63 train of 9 cars (elements 40 to 42) was modified with a current chopper, also known as a stepper-motor. This component creates the driving force of the train in stages, each stage producing a sound. This sound has become famous as the sound of the Montreal Metro, the "doo doo doo".
Even though this train no longer rolls in one piece (element 40 was retired years ago and the other two roll separately), the sound is found on the next generation Bombardier MR-73s, as well as through the door-closing chimes on the same trains. I may have filmed this train before, but to us transit fans here in Montreal, this sound will never get old. Enjoy the video!
I had no idea it made the tones (or some of them) on deceleration, too. Thanks for this great (rare) footage!
All the MR-73 cars and these Jeumont test cars do make that sound on deceleration since it's the current chopper slowing the train down.
You're welcome, though it isn't particularly rare and these trains are still in service on the Green Line. Just look fifth car (the middle car) to be numbered 80-041 or 80-042... Or just listen closely! :)
***** I mean, the MR-73 chopper sounds nothing like the amazing sound of the Jeumonts. They're better then nothing but they aren't great.
Loud! My new munber one rule is that when I'm on the green line; I always stand in the midle of the station. Great as always!
You got it man!
Lol, and I thought I was the only one doing it!
No do not worry. I only do that on the Green line
ok, that kind of answers my question about where is the jeumont on a mr-63.
YOU GO, MAN!
BubbleBeam Piplup Yup just look 4-5-6 cars. ;)
La meilleure vidéo du Jeumont à mon avis, le son est excellent
Awesome video
Thank you very much! Elton was laughing the whole way, he thought it sounded like a fart. lol
This is the one I need to find. I found the 83 one already.
Sad to look back at how we used to be with each other in the world 🌎. Now everyone is keeping their distance. Sad.
i call these musical trains because the way they accelerate its like music
The title is descriptive. It's not too long.
The bell is just a sound effect for showing the location. It's like that in my other "ride" videos too.
Your bell is amazing! If you still have them on your computer (or Mac :D) you should remake them and implement your new features!
0:51 Yesterday, I witnessed a train go in there!
I have heard that the Jeumont are no more... at least the 42
That's no scrap bell, it's the bell used on post-29-000 buses.
Trouves-tu que le son a changer a comparer a ton autre vidéo que ta faite il y a un bout de temps ?
Je pense que c'est plus que j'ai changé ma caméra entre ces deux videos, donc la qualité de son a changé.
How many single cars have that special judomont motor noise, what are their car numbers?
Each element has two motor cars and a middle car between them. There are two Jeumont elements (41 and 42) currently in service, so 4 cars have them (81-581 to 81-584). When Element 40 was in service, it was cars 81-579 and 580.
***** it was my understanding that cars 80-041 and 80-042 currently have them is that true?
Matthew Howe
Those cars are the middle cars that do now have motors. 41 is between 581 and 582, while 42 is between 583 and 584. They simply denote the element number.
Matthew Howe Although a third element used to have the Jeumont motor but got retired because there weren't enough pieces for the other two Jeumont trains.
how can you tell if the next train is an element 41? plus, is the jeumont in the middle of an mr-63?
+BubbleBeam Piplup It's the 3 middle cars of the train
0:20 - how come there is a bus stop bell sound in the train?
lol It's a sound effect I added for the caption at the beginning. Sorry for the confusion.
It's added sound
I was thinking like a garage or something...
I Ride The MR 63 With No Loud Sound
Bravoooooooooooooooooooooooo
Probably switching lines.
Where you in car 81-582?
JEUMONT FOREVER
Yes indeed. That's where I usually go if I get the 41.
Me too. Until the last time when I rode in 81-581. It has quite a different sound from 81-582.
JEUMONT FOREVER
It's usually the quieter of the two.
Yes. I personally prefer car 81-581 because I was in 81-582 the other day and it was silent.
My favorite of the four (that is 81-581,81-582,81-583,81-584 is 81-584 on element 42.
fantastic eh and was that elton i saw with you ?
and I thought it sounded awesome on the outside
are they still in use? I thought they got rid of it
They still are, though probably not for much longer
Yeah, when the MR63 start retiring, there's a good chance they'll go first.
Here's hoping the ones going to Exporail will be a Jeumont
It's unlikely, probably going to be Element 1 (81-501, 80-001, 81-502). The Jeumonts aren't in great shape.
Yes they are. ;)
