AWESOME movie. WAY better than I expected. I was 9 years old in 1971 and had the "Snake/Mongoose" Hot Wheels drag set so it was great to watch and learn the "Back Story" behind it all. The filmmakers did a great job seamlessly interweaving vintage archival footage into the film that brought the excitement, reality, and dangers of drag racing to the viewer. I can't praise this film enough. Just an awesome movie on so many levels.
"AWESOME movie. WAY better than I expected. I was 9 years old in 1971 and had the "Snake/Mongoose" Hot Wheels drag set so it was great to watch and learn the "Back Story" behind it all." (I liked that comment, 1.5 years behind you. That is neat to learn.) "The filmmakers did a great job seamlessly interweaving vintage archival footage into the film that brought the excitement, reality, and dangers of drag racing to the viewer. I can't praise this film enough. Just an awesome movie on so many levels." (Now that half sounds like a hollywood "smell me" DVD extra disk.) lol
Loved this movie then and now. They had to speed up a ton of history but the majority of it was/is spot on. Prudhomme, Leong, McEwen, Garlits, Force, Hot Wheels, Wally Parks and the NHRA, drag racing in the late 1960's and 1970's was an era that was fun for we fans who lived the time BUT it was tough for those gents who loved the sport enough to suffer through the bad times to make it what it has become today. We owe them a huge shout out.
Lot less rules for drivers, and Fans. We we fortunate to live during this time. I remember when the Wild World of Sports started covering NASCAR and Drag racing. And the Great Evil Knievel. I did crazy jumps on My Schwinn. No pads, helmet, just a tough bike and a kid with more gonads than brains. I don't recognize this country today. And I'm ashamed of it. I never dreamed this would be allowed by Americans. But, we have very few Americans, just citizens of America.
I wish they could have spent more time on the safety innovations McEwen brought to the sport. Everything from header design adding downforce to the spoilers on funny cars doing the same. He even worked with tire companies to develop a much better racing slick adding traction. They did touch on his work with fire suppression systems that have saved countless lives as well.
What a privilege it was to have the opportunity to meet both these drivers in So. Cal. back in the early seventies. Snake & Mongoose Hot Wheels were the start of my extensive collection of die cast memorabilia.
Love the cameo withe Don and Tom pulling up in the golf cart.. Great job - brought back many memories of a great era in drag racing - especially here in Southern Cal.
Rest in peace to the absolute all-out legend Tom McEwen, his some Jamie McEwen, and his son Joe McEwen. I have been a HUGE fan of racing history and all of the people who helped build the sport like Don "the Snake" Prudhomme, Tom "the Mongoose" McEwen, Connie Kalitta, Shirley Muldowney, "Big Daddy" Don Garlits, Tommy Ivo, Tom Force, and the many others. Those men paved the way for modern drag racers and made the sport what it is today. You don't have to be an American to be a national hero, you just have to give it your all and do your due diligence. The world loves a good sportsman, and these men gave their all to the world of drag racing. NHRA is what it is today because of their efforts. Thank you all gentlemen. I will forever stand in salute to you all.
By far one of my favorite movies. It hurts to see a father lose his son to an illness. I love how he made it his mission to beat snake at Indy like his son requested
WOW! I have not seen this bit of popular racing history. The old clips of NHRA racing were great. Don & Tom were on the bleeding edge of what it takes to Love Drag Racing And making money. When you look at a 50-70 million dollars worth of cars, trailers, parts, track assets on any National Event, you can see that Mongoose & Snake were the Originators of Modern Drag Racing Sponsorship. Another interesting point to the movie was the 'gradual' change in cars, transports and 'girlfriends' ...... Thanks for posting this great movie, Cinema cinemas ! 10/10
Excellent filmmaking! First time viewing this, really drew me in! The integration of the archival footage. The storyline of the trials of life, and triumphs. I learned a lot that I did not know, even though I grew up in the valley. Thanks for your fine production, for all of us to enjoy, and sharing your fine talent with us!!!
Like it was yesterday. I am working on Snake and Mongoose dragster models and this film was just the kick I needed to see them complete. They go on the shelf with the front engine dragsters and Hot Wheels funny cars. Got my own little Snake and Mongoose shrine going.
Where did you find the models? I havent has any luck finding them. Back in the late 80s/early 90s I found a kit that contained both Prudhomme's Army funny car and dragster. 1/18 scale if I remember correctly. Unfortunately those 2 models, and dozens of others I had built, ended up in the trash after my divorce in 2008.
I was 11 years old in 1971 watching drag racing and NASCAR in the little bits and pieces that you could get on ABC, NBC, or CBS and it was awesome. This production should probably be titled the Tom McEwen story ! A brilliant and talented man with a ton of fearlessness, brains and business sense and skills . I love Don Prudhomme and all that he has done for the sport. But after seeing this video I realize that “TV” Tom McEwen was much more than a very formidable competitor, he is and always will be one of the true pioneers of the sport ! Google this MAN up !! And some of the most beautiful equipment he built. Love ya Don !!! But “TV” Tommy deserves his due
Greatest rivalry in all of drag racing without a doubt. I hated to see the back story behind the scenes involving their personal lives, but then again I guess that made the movie complete. Was glad to see it finish like it did and am extremely sorry for Tom's loss of his son. All I have left to say is Don Prudhomme was one class act, and both were great individuals!. God Speed!
Brings back a lot of memories. I especially enjoyed all the cameos, Tom and Don, Linda Vaughn, Jungle Pam. The footage of all the dragstrips was great, Fremont my home strip, I spent many a Wednesday nights there thrashing my 67 Chevelle, sometimes dragging it home, on the freeway (880-80)with a CHAIN, behind a buddies truck. Sometimes I wonder how we ever survived.
Great movie! I had the Mongoose / Snake Hotwheels set when I was a kid. Their engineering was ingenious for coming up with the checkered flag and drag chute deployment system. Great to finally get the story behind these two drag racing greats.
Very impressed. Was not expecting much, but it is well made, great acting by all. I loved the cameos of famous faces... and the historic footage was a bonus.
Man does this bring back the memories. Watching them battle, the Hot Wheels cars and tracks. I still have a lot of mine. They're used, chipped paint, but still look good for 50-55 year old toys. I loved Hot Wheels, and Matchbox. I got a new one every week usually, and more with track at Christmas. I was born in 64, and remember from 4-5 year old watching this, in real time. I loved NASCAR then, not now. They deball drivers today.
I've got the movie I bought it when it first came out and it came with the T-shirt one of the greatest drag racing movies there ever was Don perdone always won the Nationals when he raced Tom McEwen Tom McEwen son finally died epic disease that I don't remember and McEwen and perdone raced at the winternationals and Tom McEwen one people think Don perdone let him win incredible movie Very incredible
Very good movie. Yeah.. I was 8 years old in 70.. grew up in so cal so I remember those tracks and the commercials.. Big props to all involved. Thanks Tom and Don.
great movie, historically accurate. was so cool see the Cameo of Prudhomme and McEwen in the golf card welcoming the team in at tge 40:45 mark of the movie. that was cool
U.s. 30 drag strip Hobart Indiana these guys were legends there now the track is virtually unrecognizable on a good day you could still see both lanes through the grass and weeds
Best thing I have watched in a long time. I was born in 74 and had all the Snake and Mongoose Hot wheels. Thanks for posting this. It made my Day. 1:35:57
So...... I grew up 2 blocks from dons house in granada hills. As the years went by I'd get taller then I was 6 ft 5in and could look over the wall into the garage. 12:44 shows the back wall of the garage and that's what I would see when door was open. I'm still here and can just about see the house from where I write this. Cool huh
Drag Racing: Sportsmanship at it's finest. (Where even if you are in "outlaw drag race", the community is tight and the engine tolerances are even tighter.)
That was really good. They did a good job of making it look like an old movie from the time. When I saw Fred Dryer, I said wait a minute. No use of modern slang or cursing. Except for when the guy said, "come on bra." No guy in the 60's or 70's called another guy "bra."
What a great pice of history. A classic story of the legendary California boys and the drag strip. Wish this film started a little bit earlier in the life story. I have heard stories of their early days and think it would have been fun to see that. Great film though

I was 4 an addicted to drag racing g

It's always nice to look into the world of drag racing (Heart like a wheel is pretty good as well
I had that race set to. I had more fun with that. Also had a lot of electric race sets. Wish I still had those toys.
A movie that did these two justice. So many memories and the seed for a life long love of cars were from these two. Thank you!

Don't forget Shirley. She was a major driver. And a damn good one.

Such a great movie. I must admit it made this 43 year old ex gangster tear up. RIP Jamie
And people wonder why we love drag racing? Is a true family. No matter what and especially when.

First time I even heard about this movie. LOVED it. What a great story!
1 of the best movies ever. That's real car racing
This was actually a good watch. Took me back to my childhood. Great incorporation of vintage footage. Loved seeing Jungle Pam.

Loved the real cars in the movie, as well as the original footage too.
Great cast, with a great story!
Best few seconds in the film ..jungle Pam Hardy ❤❤❤

Few seconds? That was like 1 and a half seconds. Such a shame to they only showed the top half. I'm not complaining but Pam was the whole package.

Nice that they included a lot of 'real' footage from back in the day, including of course Miss Linda & Jungle Pam!!!
great movie, historically accurate. was so cool see the Cameo of Prudhomme and McEwen in the golf card welcoming the team in at tge 40:45 mark of the movie. that was cool
Richard Blake's "only fan" line tickled Snake to death.
Tommy Ivo made a cameo also , he's the old man talking to Tom and Jaime in the golf cart .
Fantastic .the good old days. Watching this again.
The world needs more Snake and Mongoose.
I was there in 1978. Ive been here every year ever since.
Hollywood doesn’t always get all the details right and no exception here but still a good movie.
Well at they included the real Snake and Mongoose in the making of the movie to get it as close as possible.
It was mongoose snake not the other way at least for hot wheels
I have a tyco- snake and mongoose slot car track. I got in in the early 80's, when I was about 5 years old.
This movie is great! I cant believe i never saw it till now.
Cool movie I heard of them threw my dad but to see this movie makes me love drag racing alot more thanks for sharing
Good movie, great jams!!!
The saddest thing about this story is Jaime passing away! But Tom coming back to win Indy over Don for Jaime was the highlight! RIP Jaime!
Vintage racing is like fine wine.
What a great movie. Thanks for uploading this.
I had the Mongoose Snake Hot wheel set back in the early 70’s. Wish I still had it.

I remember doing a class project report on drag racing in 5th grade in 1970. If I remember correctly, it was like 700hp engines.

Great movie. Those were some good ole days of racing.
I had both of their Hot Wheels when I was a kid. I didn't have a cell phone, so I had to have something to do.
