Showing what was going in Braylee's backpack just gave me a vivid memory of when my infants school used to send home a tin of words to learn. The tin was an old tobacco tin and I used to love the smell...so, I used to sniff it while reading the words. To recap...In the 80's it was completely normal for 5-6 year olds to huff tobacco while learning how to read 😂
Oh my goodness! I haven't watched in a while and WOW has her speech exploded! Such a sweet little voice. Just shows what can happen when parents and teachers work together in the best interests of the student! 🥰
My daughter started kindergarten this year and I'm beyond relived that I found a amazing alternative therapy school. She's in a class of 4 so she gets a ton of help and attention and their communication is amazing! I get a full run down of her day every day its amazing. I'll share a funny thing to so my kiddo is a smarty pants and worked out on day one that if she just kept saying "eat" they would let her dig in her bed for her lunch. It was her way of avoiding doing things but then she got upset that her huge lunch was gone by noon. Her teacher asked me to make her a small snack bag and her lunch so now she's free to eat the snacks but still have a lunch lol
Hi weefamily I am new subscriber. I saw you on fathering Autism. I am a carer for adults with neurological disorders. I used to work in a per school we had some children with special needs. I have friends and family on the Autism spectrum. Your videos help me with my work. And in my personal life. I am catching up on your old video's Braylee is awesome. Love your videos the old ones and the new ones ❤️
Love, love, love how much you work with school staff! I have some families I email daily and unfortunately some that never return calls/emails. Makes things so much better when we can work as a team 😊
Communication is the key when you're working with the public school system. My son has autism and is nonverbal in his IEP it was clearly written for updates each day how his day went I had to fight it for a year just to get that. In that your time my son was abused at school. Even had an advocate with me to go to an IEP meeting she was dumbfounded with the teachers had to say. Because of the abuse in the lack of communication. My son that is 8 years old and we was doing really good on using the bathroom is now terrified to even sit on the toilet for some reason for what happened at school
Thanks for explaining all the things that make up Braylees school days. Does Norton go to school with her? Do you use Norton as a way to keep B from eloping? What tasks does he do for B? And does B find Norton as a good friend and companion? I am on my 2nd Service Dog. My best friend died in May. My new pup is a puppy and quite alot of work. We go to class every week. I'd be literally a basket case without my Service Dog. I am so impressed B reads words. Like, what!! Thanks for the video
Norton does not go to school with her. He didn’t go to therapy with her when she was full time either. He could but we decided not to send him. Maybe in the future. He does keep her from eloping, provides pressure, can retrieve items, help her clean up, he gives kisses when she needs redirected or is hitting herself. Oh yeah starting over must be so hard but it will definitely be worthwhile for you!
@@TheWeeFamily this sounds like a Stacey reply💜 Thanks so much for explaining the tasks Norton does do to be there for Braylee. Do you think B knows Norton is her friend? In other words does she seem to have an affinity for him. I ask all this as I trained dogs And I have a passion for Service Dogs and their person. The "team". I love your small family. I wish you would show more of B and Norton "workin" Together. I think viewers would learn alot. Thanks for replying to my comment. It feels great to have the creators interact!! Have a beautiful day.
She has moments where she seeks out interaction with him. She isn’t super interested in animals (our pets at least) in general but sometimes she is more curious and interactive than others. Honestly we haven’t been doing many public outings in general lately. He goes with to pick her up from school, and when we go to therapy every week but these two instances we don’t record for privacy. We do walks and car rides with him and Braylee. Getting his tasks at home is a bit difficult since it’s more in the moment. But we will try to get more of them together with him working.
@@TheWeeFamily you're so kind to give such a thoughtful reply. I am getting a picture of their relationship. btw, I so enjoy when you are in the videos more.
Good video. I’m glad you remembered to pack Braylee’s snacks/lunch. Continue on your road on getting the silver play button along with interviewing with Chris ULMER of SBSK. I hope you do the spa video.
I prefer “discerning palate” to “picky eater” 😂 it’s great that she has in her IEP that she gets to make her Mac n cheese. Amusingly as kids, macaroni was one of the only things my older brother would eat. That and peanut butter or plain pasta. And he is Neurotypical. As the Autistic kid I had a much wider range of foods I would eat. I think I have actually started to become more particular as I have gotten older. So glad to hear how communication works between all caregivers so that Braylee gets what she needs ❤️❤️🌟🌟 Why creepy bug 😭😭 that needs a spoiler warning lol
I have taken part in a few guardianship and custody mediations in my years of direct support, on one of these occasions I had a family member state in front of everyone on involved in those situations (lawyers, judges, state worker, agency reps, etc) that they no longer read the communication logs because the entry's from the support staff ( myself) were too long! Opposing? Family member then stated maybe if you responded to calls, emails , iep meetings the staff would not have to write such long entires..... this was before mic drop was a thing but TOTAL mic drop moment
It definitely is a two way street and communication on any caregiving type role is so vital! The other day I was just talking about this for nursing homes too. Any time that someone may not be capable to relay information, the supporting family and staff really should collaborate. I know we have had communication issues in the past and it’s such a struggle. It also comes down to everyone’s preference. Some people may not want the extent that we do or even more than we want.
I don’t usually comment on videos but I just have to on this one,,I’ve been following your page for a while and I just want to say that David,,you and Stacy are’nt just Amazing parents,,You are Amazing Autism Parents,,i’ve learned alot about Autism from your videos,,Thank You for Sharing ❤️🙂
Where did you get Braylee's llama ear defenders? I'm starting to think about maybe getting myself a pair, but I would feel a lot more comfortable wearing them if they looked cute instead of industrial.
Of course 😅 we had issues with her not eating at the last school so it was an important accommodation for her. DAPE stands for developmental adapted physical education. We hadn’t heard of it when we were back in Colorado so we didn’t even know it was a thing until we moved here.
Do you think your daughter gets/got better help in Minnesota or co? I have 3 with asd and we've been looking for a better place to go to get them help. I do understand it's all a personal opinion and help varies from kid to kid etc etc thank you
When Braylee does take yogurt to school, will she eat the yogurt tubes, or does she eat out of the small containers? I love Braylee's little whisper voice, it's so cute 😍
It depends really. Sometimes even the drinkable kind of yogurts. Her whisper is so cute. Every so often I’ll hear her whisper counting or something and it’s like she’s practicing just to herself
I've been in the IEP program since the 6th grade, and I've had plenty of memorable case managers who helped me with math. Does Braylee have any case managers at school? If so, how does she get along with them?
Her special Ed teacher is technically her case manager. We have had some great ones over the years and once hers is back from maternity leave I think she will love her too! We really like her.
To be honest I don’t blame Braley because I’m really picky when it comes to eating from certain textures I won’t be eating certain textures because I have sensory processing disorder with autism spectrum disorder still today’s day I won’t eat certain textures to this day unfortunately I tried to eat different foods so I don’t blame her completely I’m just like her when it comes to her food options
She’s been at schools where no peanuts are allowed. Here it’s not an issue. She also eats lunch in a separate area because the lunchroom can be very overstimulating for her. With Covid, they limit the number of kids in the lunchroom at a time anyway and have some kids eating in their classrooms for distancing.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 things were definitely different in the 80s! That gave me a good laugh
listening to her reading the words from the sheet out loud is so cool! i'm literally so excited for braylee, this is huge!!

She is doing so well! It’s a great feeling when you feel supported and everyone is wanting the best for the child 🙂
Good Communication with teachers/staff makes for a better experience in school for the child

We have to make sure she’s fed and that’s always her top choice 🙂

Peanuts are banned from all public places including school where I come from,so it's weird seeing them in her lunchbox 😂

good job bralee
What kind of milk does braylee usually get at school white milk or chocolate milk.
White milk I believe 🙂
I know Braylee is in school now rather than therapy but does she go to a mainstream school or specialist class, or specialist school?? ❤️🧡❤️🧡
Does she take a water bottles
Dose Braylee like things like chicken nuggets and pizza? It looks like she eats a good variety of things for her lunch box.
Sometimes she will eat pizza or nuggets, but not very often
