Slinging Sammy Baugh is a good candidate for greatest player to have ever lived, not just Redskin. Baugh reinvented the forward pass, making it possible on every down. Prior to Baugh, the forward pass was considered a third down desperation play because it rarely yielded results. Sammy had an accuracy second to none and would pass the ball on first down whenever he wanted to. Sammy’s record of leading the lead as QB, punter and interceptions is a feat that will never be duplicated. His records are all the more impressive when you look at the ballon type ball they played with at that time. NFL balls have become much more streamlined and aerodynamic than in his day. As accurate as he was, I can’t imagine what records he would set with today’s football? Kenny Houston stopping Walt Garrison on the one yard line is one play I’ll never forget. Garrison was one of the strongest rushers in the game and he usually plowed through anyone in his way, carrying them several more yards. Kenny Houston was way stronger than his size would make you believe.
I was in the stadium for THE TACKLE by Ken Houston. That stadium could get loud but I never heard it roar as it did in that moment. Can feel the same chills going up my spine to this day.
This was my team. I watched everything I possibly could about the history of this team. While I don't condone the racism of marshall, this teams logo was created by a Blackfoot man and made me feel even more American to root for the team from our nations capitol. Awesome logo, sweet uniforms, great colors, and was around since 1932. I wish The Washington Redskins still existed.
I can give to the 4 most important Redskins of all time, you can put them in any order you like. Joe Gibbs, Joe Bugel, Richie Petitbon, & Bobby Beathard.
Sonny Jurgensen tore his achilles tendon in the'72 season, not the '71 season. If he had stayed healthy, would the Dolphins have been the only undefeated, 17-0 team in NFL history? What a counterfactual.
It's doubly ridiculous in that he had to face 2 of the best defensive players of all time in Reggie White and Lawrence Taylor every year at least twice a year. Jacoby was also the most versatile lineman and arguably better than Grimm. When Grimm was injured Jacoby was the one that was trusted to be the lead blocker on the iconic counter trey play.
The world went insane and the NFL played along. Most of the major sports leagues are basically unwatchable. There’s a part of me that’s glad that the glorious Washington Redskins died because watching them get dragged through the mud which is the current NFL seems even more insufferable than seeing them dissolve. True Redskins fans can always remember the end of the Redskins as coinciding with the end of the NFL in the sense of a watchable and respectable sports organization.
The Hall of fame committe must not like the Redskins very much they took their sweet time inducting Art Monk into the Hall he was a no brainer/first ballot choice for the Hall of fame.
@@mikehartley8234 the problem is that it is the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of the GOATs. Players who were well known and still well known by announcers, fans, and writers are more likely to get in. Leaving Joe Jacoby out, is THE stupidest thing. How the hell do you leave out THE BEST offensive lineman, on the the best offensive line in the history of the NFL? Joe Jacoby being the best isn’t opinion. It’s fact. Not only recognized by Redskins fans…but the entire league as well. The fact he’s been screwed by the HOF, which is an injustice that is unforgivable, is not a reason to leave him off the list. Jacoby goes before Grimm on that list. I guess you’re too young to really know Joe Jacoby. The GREATEST offensive lineman ever
Theisman sucks. It was nauseating to watch him show out for Dan Snyder and the safe spaces a.k.a. commanders new uniform and logo. He’ll always be a Judas in my eyes. He was always a diva and an annoying one at that but at least he never sold out to the mindless PC crowd until that debacle.
Don Warren deserves to be here and the hall of fame. Greatest blocking tight end in league history. He was the blood, guts and sinew of the Redskins apex years.
There used to be a Holiday Inn in Fairfax, Va. Downstairs was a lounge called the "Fox and Hounds Room". In the late 70's , every Friday night during the season, about half the Redskins would come in, push a few tables together, order up a few pitchers, and hold a team meeting.
