- Our beloved Ingeborg Shelton (Inga), 88, has died peacefully surrounded by family in her home in Virginia Beach after a valiant fight with cancer. She is predeceased by her devoted husband Harold L. Shelton in 2016, and earlier this year, her loving son Harold W. Shelton. Inga leaves behind son Charles Shelton (partner Anita), daughters Eloise Shelton-Mayo (husband Joseph Mayo) and Eva-Marie Zahn, as well as daughter in-law Donna Shelton. She leaves grandchildren Catherine Rodrigues, Alyssa Shelton, Charles Shelton and Danny Shelton. Inga also leaves behind two great-grands Hunter and Mia Dipietro. Inga leaves many beloved family members in Germany, including younger sister Karen Haberkorn and sister-in-law Birthe Miether. Her adored brothers, Lutheran Pastors, Reinhard Miether and Jorge Miether, predeceased her.
Inga missed her dear friends and family that have passed. She was grateful for her many friends and neighbors in Virginia Beach and in Wilmington. Inga was a longtime resident of Wilmington, NC but originally from Northern Germany in the lovely town of Gelting. She found joy and meaning as a volunteer in the community and through her church, St. Matthew’s Lutheran. Inga moved to Virginia about ten years ago to live with youngest daughter Eva-Marie Zahn. Inga had a warm smile and ready laugh. She loved people and had a way of making others feel cared for and understood. We will miss her deeply but will have her light and love with us forever.
In lieu of flowers, Ingeborg's family has requested consideration for a donation to Sentara Hospice or St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church in her memory.
